Is this the biggest meme in all of food?
>incredibly expensive compared to other dairy
>tastes bad
>you can supplement the same protein by just eating a joghurt (sweetned if you want to)
The only good reason to ever use it seems to be as a protein additive to dough or batter
>>
when you're lifting weights you get sick of eating and just want to chug protein water like you're taking medicine. it's also convenient that you can take it anywhere and just add water. it's a convenience food. it's not something anyone desires to consume.
>>
>>21949808
Why not buy a protein shake or yoghurt instead for the same protein, cheaper and better taste.
Especially since mixing it with water produced something very disgusting and almost inedible
>>
>>21949816
a protein shake is not cheaper and yogurt has very few grams of protein per unit of volume. you have to eat a ton of yogurt to equal one scoop of protein powder. so yogurt isn't cheaper either. a quick calculation puts name brand protein powder at 5 cents per gram of protein and greek yogurt at 7 cents per gram of protein.
>>
>>21949820
Skyr gives you 11g protein per 100g, so one 200g yoghurt comes in at 22g protein, entirely sufficient for one meal. There's drinkable ones too.
It's also 30% cheaper per protein than protein powder (€2.16/100g protein vs €2.40/100g protein for the cheapest protein powder you can find), and has a way better nutritional profile either way.
I have yet to find a dairy product more expensive per protein than whey powder.
>>
>>21949801
I have a protein shake for breakfast three times a week, I make it with whole milk, frozen banana, peanut butter, plain whey powder, cacao powder, and collagen peptides.
It's easy, quick, and keeps me sated.
>>
They dont sell joghurt in my area.
>>
>>21949824
nobody is eating 1500g of yogurt a day to hit their protein goals. you are talking nonsense. the purpose of protein powder is to supplement your diet with easily consumed and digestible protein to hit macro targets. also I don't care enough about this to start converting currencies. yogurt is not cheaper where I live and skyr doesn't even exist. You could carry around chicken legs in your pockets for protein too. the point of protein powder is convenience.
>>
>>21949841
>nobody is eating 1500g of yogurt a day
If you're eating 150g of protein powder there's something seriously wrong with your diet
>skyr doesn't even exist
Congrats on being a third worlder.

You used cents do you're presumably in the US; where in America has skyr still not penetrated? It's fucking everywhere these days.

retard.

The truly dumbest thing in all food is my coupons app giving me a coupon for some amount of $$$ off Muscle Milk but I have to buy Doritos or some other carb shit to get it. Bitch, if I'm chugging protein powder, I'm not likely to munch on fried carbohydrate snacks. Fuck you.
>>
its great if you blend the shit out of it and add other ingredients. its awful by itself or with water.

duel detected.

fpbp, literally everyone replying just wants to be a difficult faggot for no reason.
>>21949816
Because you're already eating skyr, chicken breast, hummus, etc throughout the day. And bottled protein shakes are the most overpriced shit you could buy.
>>21949841
You are free to eat 2L of yoghurt a day and shit your pants. Normal people just eat a varied high protein diet and use whey powder to supplement their needs.

Your reading comprehension fucking sucks, dipshit.

Nope. Try again, Corky.

ESL’s fucking everywhere these days….
>>
>>21949801
It's a supplement because it's powdered, no you can't replace something like that with a food item like yogurt. Closest thing would be skim milk powder and that isn't whey, it's milk with the protein and lactose in its correct proportions.
>>
>>21949816
>Why not buy a protein shake
Are you this fucking stupid
>>
>>21949808
>you get sick of eating
your body usually tells you to stop eating for a good reason
>>
>>21949801
the gymcels that drink this daily are all going to have kidney failures by the time they're 50 so there's that at least
>>
>>21949801
just got 5 lbs of this (vanilla ice cream flavor too) and mix it with almond milk and coffee
its fucking good
i got it in a sad attempt to save my hair. i dont even workout

It's a blessing for me
I'm 5'4" 140lb and i started lifting and every night my body hurts from all the broken muscle fibres but i can't eat even 1g/lb of body weight protein without having to force myself to eat more than i can handle. It gets tiring, but it's the only way I'm not a total wreck the next day
With whey i can at least eat less and still survive
>>
>>21951996
>5'4
Delicious morsel. Let me get my bib.
>>
>>21951996
>1g/lb of body weight protein
You probably don't really need that much. A lot of studies say that's overkill.

Remember you joints and nervous system are adapting to the exercise too and it's not just your muscles. It's common for people to start lifting weights and go overboard thinking they need to go as hard as possible and consume maximum protein but it's not really sustainable long-term for a lot of people. You'll probably just get really sick of eating that way eventually, tired of feeling so worn out, more likely to injure yourself, etc.
>>
>>21949808
This. Eating 170+ grams of protein per day is annoying and takes too much work. Two-scoop shake plus normal eating gets you there much easier.
>>
>>21951868
>drinking protein to save hair
Anon I...
>>
>>21951796
Not really. Modern diets make people fucked up. We have vegans, people who only eat chicken nuggets, and other weird shit. It's come to the point that we need artificial protein supplements just to get enough protein.
>>
>>21952170
Well if you're lifting weights and eating the way they can recommend I assume you have a somewhat okay diet and you're not just eating chicken nuggets or vegan. People still overestimate protein needs especially people getting into weight lifting and I've personally seen them go overboard on protein then binge on carbs when they can't stand eating more protein.

If you don't eat much protein then obviously a protein shake can be helpful. But if you're regularly eating meat/eggs/dairy you're likely already getting enough.
>>
>>21949801
Yogurt?
Not even close
>>
This is why I don't go on /fit/ they're all cardboard. Suppose they make me want to sleep though.
>>
Don't these contain a lot of lead?
>>
>>21952274
the chocolate ones do because low quality chocolate contains a lot of lead. any product made with tons of low quality cocoa powder will be high in lead.
>>
>>21952302
that CR report showed even the supposed high quality brands still have concerning levels of heavy metals in them. sucks. i've cut back on my chocolate consumption a lot since that came out. can only be beneficial
>>
>>21949801
My dad gets free ensure through a local program but he doesn't really like them so I get the high protein ones and drink one or two post workout

Palatable bars and supplements meant body builders didn't have to "eat big" anymore. Though they might still depending on their views on chemicals.
>>
>>21952563
I just like egg whites. I could eat them by the dozen, and sometimes do
>>
>>21952575
stop bragging richfag
>>
>>21952576
$3 a dozen 3x a week, and they generally replace a meal

No extra cost
>>
>>21952581
>$3 a dozen
Yikes. We just got in from shopping five-ish minutes ago and we bought 3dz for less than that ($2.97, 99¢/dz).
>>21952576
Even at $3/dz, there's no cheaper source of complete protein than eggs (43ish g protein per dozen, iinm) unless you can get a deep discount on milk or something to make paneer out of it. Like my wife did a couple weeks ago, 33¢/gal for expiring-that-day milk. I was gonna buy more milk today to have her make more paneer but decided not to alert her to the weird milk with the inexplicably Hebrew writing on it that expired today because she'd bogard the kitchen making cheese and I need to cook some pork this afternoon.
>>21952541
>>21952302
>>21952274
I hear people have switched to egg white powder over it
>>
The worst part about bodybuilding culture is the massive steroid use and the collective attempt to hide it by claiming it's just diet that makes them get so large, which leads people to have outlandish perceptions about how much protein they "need" to consume to look like Chris Hemsworth in Thor, or who think if you're not eating 200g protein per day your body will wither away.
>>
>>21952605
I never got the appeal. I love that I've lost nearly 100lbs with no cheat codes, surgery, nothing. Still got a ways to go but I'm proud af that I was able to do it with just diet exercise and willpower
>>
>>21952181
>if you're regularly eating meat/eggs/dairy you're likely already getting enough.
It's certainly possible but it's something you have to plan. If you're going for 150g then it's easy to overeat calories from real food. And you don't always want to eat heavy every day, some days you just want light food.
Shakes make it easy to eat a "normal" diet because you can always get 60 grams of protein for only 300 calories (2 shakes per day). It's one of the best supplements there is.
>>
>>21952563
>get drunk and eat 3 of these one night
>couldn't shit for a week
>>
>>21952639
You could've bought a big pack of actual rice krispies treats for less than the total of your three quest bars. Never trust drunk logic.
