I'm traveling to Tokyo in a few weeks for work, I've never been to Japan before and would like to try some new things and different types of restaurant/bars there. Unfortunately I'm allergic to seafood so that's the main limiting factor. What should I try? Also, general Japanese food thread.

>I am allergic to seafood
Just go to Ribera and get a steak, and hit up 7/11 for the fluffy bread egg sandwich and call it a day.

I mean, japs eat a lot of shit from the sea, but it's hardly the only stuff they eat.
>>
>>21953084
Gyoza, pork katsu, Japanese fried chicken, just eat at little Chinese restaurants and avoid actual Japanese food altogether.
>>
Go to Tempura and wine OSHIO in Ginza
It's incredibly delicious.
Try the Camembert tempura for sure

Also, not food, but the trip to the Hakone Yuuryo onsen in Hakone is very worth it, it's divine.

if the allergy extends to dashi then it's just about everything they eat.
>>
Kyushu No. 1 Star Is my favorite ramen there, the owner really works hard on his broth
>>

>seafood allergy
Is it all seafood, or just chitin from crabs/prawns? It is very rare to be allergic to fish and squid.
>>
>>21953099
Yeah, this is why I'm asking.

>>21953119
All shellfish and seaweed, I just avoid anything from water just in case. Would prefer not to eat squid/octopus because they're smart. Never tried eel so I'm not sure about that but they're endangered anyway so not too keen on it

even stuff like beef bowls usually use some amount of dashi in the cooking process.
just be cautious and ask or let them know of your allergy, OP. but you can get some good yakitori/yakiniku, tempura, and karaage with little worry I'd think.

How the hell are you allergic to seaweed

You aren't surviving your trip, nice knowing you anon you should at least take out a nice life insurance policy before you go to leave something for your family.

What are your symptoms? Full blown anaphylaxis?

At least I will finally see Japan after spending most of my life on an anime website

>>21953438
It seems kind of random so it's hard to manage, sometimes I get facial swelling but my throat is fine, other times it's just mild itching. Not a fun roulette though

gyudon, oyakodon, curry, omurice, napolitan, Kobe/waygu steak, sweet dishes, sandos of various types there's like too many dishes to list all that that dont have seafood.
you will be fine and if you aren't used to Japanese food the dishes I have named all appeal to the western palate

> japs
i don’t think it’s politically correct to call the slants “japs” anymore
>>

>seaweed
uh oh, yeah be very careful. maybe skip the gyudon and oyakodon unless they say they can make it with nothing seaweed related.
they put seaweed in a massive amount of their dishes.

majority of the eels are farm raised. (except they don't know how to breed them so they just catch the babies and grow them)
