What kind of food have human beings evolved to eat? Like what are we "supposed" to eat without ill effects

What does it mean for me if I don't like cucumbers?
>>
>>21959514
Thats the wrong question to ask, imo
Let me ask you, do you think humans were evolved to eat hardtack, heavily salted n likely rotten meat, and hard liquor? What about freeze dried and/or pureed food out of a tube?
And yet these are the food that brought people across oceans and into space.
Now imagine if people were only interested in what food theyre "supposed" to eat, youd likely still be living in the middle ages.
In short, eat to live, not the other way round.
>>
>>21959514
>Like what are we "supposed" to eat without ill effects
fruits and vegetables never hurt anyone
>>
>>21959528
you have to eat zucchini
>>
Not bugs of any kind that's for true
>>
>>21959514
Humans evolved to eat different things. Some people evolved to consume more milk, some more starch, some more meat. Some people can't digest starch, some people can't digest milk, some people only have limited capacity for meat and fat.

The main thing you want to avoid is ultra processed food and then figure out what makes you feel best without someone else telling you that's wrong.
>>
>>21959514
Cooked meat and raw plants.
>>
>>21959536
Yes they have there are tons of poisonous and toxic fruits and vegetables. Additionally, of the ~120k hospitalizations from foodborne illness every year, nearly half are caused by produce. Some fruits and vegetables like citrus fruits even naturally contain photocarcinogens known to cause cancer.

All the food is poison. Eating food in general is a barbaric and imperfect method of fueling our bodies and regenerating our cells. I feel like it's best not to dwell too much on these issues of mortality, and would rather suggest that you don't be retarded and eat a variety and volume of foods that taste good and doesn't make you feel bad. Simple as.
>>
People. Preferably fat ones. They have the most nutrients per pound.
>>
>>21959514
>What kind of food have human beings evolved to eat?
mostly fruit.

Humans (and all other apes) share the same mutated GULO gene, which made it so our bodies can no longer produce vitamin C on their own.
We need to get vitamin C from our food, and that means we are obligatory fruit eaters.
>>
>>21959514
You people always appeal to evolution in such an extremely illogical way that demonstrates a total lack of understanding. It's either trolling or terminal stupidity. You should end your life either way.
>>
>>21959605
>We need to get vitamin C from our food, and that means we are obligatory fruit eaters.
You can get vitamin C from raw meat and organs. I'm not saying you should, just saying it's possible and that you can prevent scurvy with them. Fully cooked meat and organs have most of the vitamin C destroyed.
>>
>>21959609
>You can get vitamin C from raw meat and organs.
ok liver king
>>
>>21959610
>I'm not saying you should
>>
>>21959612
>I'm not saying you should
why would you even waste your time telling people that they can get vitamins from things they should not eat?

My shit has vitamins in it. Does that mean you're gonna tell people that they can technically eat it for vitamins (but not saying you should)
>>
>>21959615
Because the claim that we need to eat vitamin C and therefore that means we need to eat fruit is flawed.
>>
>>21959621
But then you suggested vit c can be acquired from food people shouldnt eat (what?)
Why did you not suggest getting vit c from sth that is safer to eat like vegetables or spices?
>>

hunger is a natural, evolved instinct.
The fact that you would rather eat an orange, than a raw liver, tells you that oranges inspire hunger more than liver.
It just feels more natural to eat fruit, because fruit is the more natural food for humans.

>uhhhhh well uhhhh acktually theres no such thing as uhhhh

cringe. You're not gonna soyence your way out of something that everybody already knows instinctively
>>
>>21959629
>But then you suggested vit c can be acquired from food people shouldnt eat (what?)
I didn't say they shouldn't eat it, I said I'm just not saying you should. I wasn't taking a stance on what we should eat, just pointing out the flaw of the argument.

>Why did you not suggest getting vit c from sth that is safer to eat like vegetables or spices?
That doesn't really point out the flaw as much.

>>21959634
Potatoes and unpasteurized milk have decent amounts of vitamin C too.
>>
>>21959646
Pointing out a flawed argument with a suggestion thats just as flawed seems extremely retarded
The above poster was right, you might as well tell ppl to eat shit for vitamins
>>
>>21959646
Why the fuck would you nitpick "flaws" in an argument that you don't disagree with, to support a retarded position?

Do you have some form of autism?

>weakens your own position
>uhh yeah well uhh at least i'm being intellectually consistent uhhh
>>
>>21959655
>a suggestion
It wasn't a suggestion. I said I wasn't suggesting you do it.

>>21959667
>that you don't disagree with,
I did disagree that we're meant to mostly be eating fruit.
>>
>>21959670
And people have told you very clearly that telling people not to do something while at the same time telling them its an option is extremely retarded. Someone even made an apt comparison to suggesting ppl eat shit for vitamins.
Are you still confused? Or are you simply incapable of saying i said something stupid?
>>
>>21959673
I didn't say they shouldn't do it, I said I wasn't telling anyone to do it. There are people like the Inuit who eat a lot of raw fish and little plant foods but they don't develop scurvy.

>what are we "supposed" to eat without ill effects
anything that does not kill us. we evolved to generalize. our ancestors ate whatever they could. we do not have the gut system of a hebivore, or a carnivore. we have a gut system that favors meat but is also capable of eating most vegetables.

you cannot pin down humans to any specific diet because it varies wildly throughout time and place.

also paleo diets (as sold to idiots) is not anything like a real paleo diet. there is almost no food in a grocery store or that you can grow or raise yourself that existed in the paleo era.

>>
>>21959609
>You can get vitamin C from raw meat
completely true inuits and eskimos have survived for thousands of years on a diet of mostly raw meat.

I read a study done by a doctor who lived off raw meat for at least 6 months and monitored his vitamin C levels. he experienced no issues.

>>21959610
vitamin a and iron are mostly why people would eat raw liver.
>>
>>21959621
no it is not. we absolutely do need to eat vitamin C and the best source is fruit but meat is also a good source.

lack of vitamin C is the main cause of plague buildup in arteries. look it up.
>>

>The privilege of being the top of the food chain.
oh my sweet summer child. we are not top of the food chain. put an unarmed naked human on the serengeti and they would be dead within a day.
>>
>>21959728
Are you retarded? The reason humans are on top of the food chain is BECAUSE theyre neither unarmed or naked or by themselves. Its like saying a lion isnt scary if you took out all its tooth and nails.

We are adaptable, evolved to eat a wide variety of foods. When you start to get ill effects is when you dramatically narrow the scope of your intake to a very tiny subset of foods that would be fine on their own in typical quantities, but are not so when it's 2-3 meals a day 7 days a week of consumption.

>>21959728
>heh, think humans are so cool? How about you strip away everything they use in nature to survive and THEN see how it goes
If you're gonna strip me of the advantages garnered by my tool-using brain adaptations and my in-born collaborative group hunting tactics, then put me up against a shark on dry land where it can't use its evolved gills of hydrodynamic skin.
Uh oh, looks like poor old nature lost again :(

You have to get to the absolute core of the issue. Sure, we evolved from monkeys, but where did monkeys come from? Fish. Where did fish come from? Rocks. Where do rocks come from? The sun. So, what does the sun eat?
>t evolutionary scientist at college
>>
>>21959514
Raw liver is the only naturally occurring food you can eat indefinitely without developing nutrition problems (though you'd have to eat more of it than you'd likely be able to hunt). More realistically, meat (including a mix of offal, fat, and lean muscle) supplemented by small quantities of foraged berries. Going substantially carnivorous is likely how humans branched off from the rest of the primates.

Go look up the average lifespan of an 18th century sailor man. The average mortality rate on a single voyage was like 20% for tropical destinations and most deaths would be due to diseases because having hard tack and expired meat day in and out is not exactly conducive to a strong immune system.
>>
>>21959885
Eskimos can and historically did live for months off nothing but reindeer liver that they'd frozen to eat during lean times.
>>
>>21959893
Why did they only eat reindeer liver for months? Because they would start with all the other parts of the animal?
>>
>>21959899
I'm not an Eskimo but I suspect it was because it was the most preservable source of iron and vitamin C they had.

Thats what you got out of my post? That ppl should eat like sailors?

Where did you hear that? I know they would freeze whole animals and keep stores of fat but I never heard they were just eating liver. I think they have to avoid polar bear liver too because the high vitamin A content still makes them sick too.

Liver is also typically lean while they generally rely more on fat.

Modern hunter-gatherers do that but also often eat a lot of honey. Like more than most people would consider healthy. They also eat roots if not much else is available. Some regularly eat nuts, some regularly eat starch collected from roots or certain types of trees. There is some evidence that a few thousand years before agriculture people were already making bread and maybe even beer with wild grains and roots.

Even before agriculture the human diet was pretty varied.

It increases digestibility of nutrients, so we can spend all those calories on brainpower.

If you're going to deny humans of their evolutionary advantages then why wouldn't you do the same for the animals they would fight? If you aren't willing to factor in the things that humans evolved to survive(intelligence, toolmaking, group cooperation and tactics) then why are we not also denying the shark the things it evolved to survive?

Sailors going on long voyages to non tropical locations had like a 1% mortality rate so I think it's more like tropical diseases like malaria and stuff.
