Has /ck/ ever made a ratatouille?
>>21961815no because this board is 80% obese Americans that gag at the smell of vegetables
>>21961815Why did you post this?
>>21961815I have. I made the Pixar version. It was incredibly underwhelming. I've never made real ratatouille, but I have to imagine it being so much better.
>>21961817Can confirm. Only vegatible i eat is pizza.
>>21961815women cuisine, uggh
I made it in culinary school once and never again
>>21961815I guess so... I regularly use all the ingredients together for a veg stew accompaniment to things, but I rarely dress it up super nicely. Even when I set it up super thick in a ramekin and invert it into a cylinder of tasty goodness, I just can't be fucked layering perfectly mandolined slices of veg... It gets chopped or sliced as needed, into the pan, dutch oven, or ramekins, seasoned, stirred, and cooked til tender.I've kind of always wanted to make it into an aspic - that's something I would spend the effort arranging.
>>21961815not the meme version but a traditional one yeah. it's really good in the fall with fresh harvest produce.
>>21961829how do you season the zucchini?
>>21961821Here's a picrel by the way, to prove I actually did it.
>>21961839I think it was thyme, basil and salt.
>>21961815that is not ratatouille.
Yes, i got my first mandolin and thought it would be fun to use it for ratatouille. It was okay! I think it is a lovely side dish, not a great meal.I’m not sure if what i was using was in season, and since then I’ve started growing my own tomatoes, so i bet i could make it better.
>>21961815That's not the real version of the dish, that's the fancy "restuarant" version. Ratatouille is an incrdibly simple veggie dish that is normally simply cubed pieces cooked and served in a bowl or on a plate. The movie actually also depicts that one in the critic's flashback where his mother serves him a bowl.>>21961821I always interpreted the scene as the dish not being that amazing, but it reminds him of his childhood where his mother cooked it for him.
>>21961861Yeah, it grounded him. He had become detached from true food appreciation and was just a rude snob
>>21961840i'm underwhelmed even at the sight
>>21961861It needs seasoning. Even with really good tomatoes, it needs salt, pepper, garlic, onion, basil and marjoram/oregano at the very least. As far as stewed veg goes, it's pretty good, but it is stewed veg.
>>21961815I don't eat veggables
>>21961861The food critic's evaluation seemed to be based on subjective memories, but he had even observed the rats' cooking process, struggled with how much of the facts to include in his review, and even supported the restaurant's reopening, so the rats' skills must have been exceptional.
>>21961815squash doesn't taste good.
>>21961817i'm gonna start charging you rent for thinking about us so often.
>>21961840
>>21961870It looks very neat architecturally
>nobody posted it
>>21961840mate, this is the color the zucchini are supposed to be.
>>21961840pretty sure it needs to be cooked, bro
It took a Disney movie to get Americans to make a vegetable dish...
Yeah sure. But this is too much effort. I just dice everything
>>21961815/ck/ is primarily an American board (just look at the catalogue) It's unlikely that anybody here has actually made ratatouille, except for a few adventurous brits, greeks, italians and of course the French,
>>21961815Even I have a ratatouille gif and I not a ck user.C'mon OP.
>>21961817>this board is 80% obese Americans that gag at the smell of vegetables
>>21963117Funny episode especially with the potato dump truck but hardly representative of all americans. Epic meal time was more representative of american tastes, and they're leaf faggots
>>21963117i get why people laugh at this but she said she was traumatized by relatives forcing her to eat things that she didn't like until she threw up when she was 4
>>21961815In Belguim it's often used as a sauce with red meat or barbecue.
>>21961815me mum did once, a waste of vegetables
>>21962992Doing this without a mandolin looks horrible, I would definitely just dice it
>>21961821Well the movie version was less about tasting amazing and more about taking the critic back to his childhood and reminding him what "food is really about love" and all that shit. It's simple but not bad, not great.
>>21963248Why y'all lie Cletus? Yoo serious bro?
>>21961817Kek, rent free huh.
>>21961815We have something similar, we just add meat and call it fajitas
