Is this shit just a gimmick or is there something to that marble inside there?

It simulates a blowhole spout. Whales bro.

What’s the secret to making a soda that’s rich and creamy with a smooth, velvety texture? The answer is nitrogenation.
But how do you use a technology that was originally designed to allow the soda to be poured in pubs on draught to deliver the perfect ramune serve in a bottle? That’s where the widget comes in!
A lot of innovation loses its magic with time. But the widget has never lost its magic. Just saying the word ‘widget’ puts us in a good mood.
It’s essentially a small, white nitrogen filled ball that sits atop the bottle, and the second the bottle is opened, the widget does what it has so patiently been waiting to do. It releases the magic surge of bubbles, replicating the draught experience in a can.
In 2004, a survey of almost 9,000 people voted our little widget as being a greater invention than the internet. This isn’t a joke, the widget beat the internet. But our widget has managed to remain humble since then, resisting the temptation of getting a big head (get it?).
The result? A perfectly smooth soda that’s unmistakably ramune every time.
>>
it's just very old. these types of bottle were more common in the past and ramune just kept it instead of adding a plastic screw cap
>>
>>21963431
they're expensive, small, and are vaguely inoffensive in taste
seems like a rich person "drink" rather than a novelty i keep on my shelf
>>
>>21963437
guinness draught cans also have this widget. it's a good widget.
>>
>>21963431
>called lemonade
>does not taste like lemonade
japs really do take a lot of liberties with my language.
>>
>>21963431
They're painfully expensive but I just had the melon flavor a few days ago and I have to say it's definitely not overhyped just because it's Japanese. It kind of reminds me of Almdudler where the taste is so strong, just having small sips is extremely satisfying so having a smaller bottle isn't so bad. I do wish they were cheaper.
>>21963485
I had the regular flavor before and wasn't super impressed but the melon one is really good.
>>21963487
Ok American who mispronounces EVERYTHING that is foreign even if the correct way to say is a word is completely obvious.

HFCS

What else will those dastardly japs dream up next? It's about time for another pearl harbor.
>>

It's a novelty thing.

>>
>>21963487
the original ramune was lemon. it was also invented by a white guy.
>>
>>21963498
i have never mispronounced anything in my entire life.
>>
>>21963431
It's just soda with an old timey bottle. Some of the flavours are nice, and it's fun to open and drink as a novelty. Also since it's only 250ml of soda it wont make you megafat for having 1 bottle once in a while.
>>
>>21963602
nothing will make you megafat from one bottle once in a while.
>>
>>21963607
what i drink one bottle of cooking oil once in a while
>>
>>21963620
you'll shit out a bottle of cooking oil. your body can only digest so much fat at once and the rest is just shit out.
>>
>>21963622
so i have to stick with the smaller bottles
>>
>>21963487
>my language
Cringe. I couldn't imagine ever being this gay.
>>
>>21963624
stick with the larger, your asshole will fit the bottle neck opening better
>>
>>21963630
yeah some of the larger bottles have a flared base which will help keep it in place
>>
>>21963431
Coca Cola had patented the normal metal bottlecap so some bong sodamaker had to invent an alternate way of sealing bottles of his soda. he proceeded to license the design to other companies under the British influence sphere (including Japan at the time). eventually the Coke patent expired and most companies switched to Coke-style bottlecaps, but the company that makes Ramune decided to continue using the marble. probably out of a sense of national pride, because US-Japan relations were in a bad state at the time (1930s).
>>
>>21963573
10/10 comeback!
>>
>>21963487
ramune was invented by a British expat, and Bongs use the term 'lemonade' to refer to drinks like Sprite. which is what ramune is a variant of.

>das rite
>>
>>21963437
the marble in ramune isn't a nitro widget, it's just an older bottle sealing technology from before they invented crown caps.
>>
>>21963437
It's carbonated though.
>>
>>21963802
I don't know why you're so angry
>>
>>21963802
-50 aura points i fear
>>
The ball slips into the neck every time I drink one and makes it awkward as fuck to drink. The little pinched glass that supposed to catch it doesn't work and it has a shitty plastic cup on top of the glass. It's meant to be poured in a glass but that's fucking stupid you can't just drink it normally.

>>
>>21963431
It’s known as a codd-neck or codswallop bottle. It was invented before the steel crown caps that are commonly used today. Little street urchins in England used to smash the bottles open to get the marbles out to play with.
>>
>>21963876
Yeah, I meant that you spell like a child.
>>
>>21963881
every english speaker types like a child because english orthography barely exists as a concept
if you want to be a retard about spelling, at least do it in a language that has proper rules for spelling
>>
>>21963886
OK. You being so wize has brought my demize.
>>
>>21963886
that’s a delusional cope and I’m not even the person you’re replying to

are you sure you didnt mean "delootional"?
or "delucional"?
>>
>>21963887

>>

Come on, Anon. Lets not pretend that Not-Americans get a say on the lingual front or any other front. This is our planet, the rest of you just live here.
>>
>>21963889
Oh my God you're actually crying right now
>>
>>21963887
but are these spellings being wrong a result of breaking some rule, or are they arbitrarily spelled the way they are? i think that's what anon is getting at.
for example, you can't spell the word bastardize/bastardise(both spellings are correct btw, whoever made the original correction is a completely dull pseud, unless it was bait) let's say "bastardeyes", because there's a rule that the suffix for turning nouns into verbs MUST be "-ise/ize".
that's an example of orthography.
for the record i don't know if the wise/wize spelling is arbitrary or if there's some rule.
>>
>>21963881
Atomic levels of cope. Anon, face it you got mogged. Just kill yourself now or continue having your little melt down below. Either way I will be laughing at you.
>>
>>21963893
>>21963901
From Latin de- (down, to one’s detriment) + ludere (to play)
The spelling of words make perfect sense if you understand their etymological roots, but I understand that would be hard to grasp if your first language is Hindi
>>
>>21963903
spot on, buddy

>>21963909
if there're multiple ways to spell the same sound, then the spelling makes no sense
there's that classic "ghoti = fish" meme
etymology impacts morphology and syntax, sure, but letting it govern spelling is almost the same as using old greek alphabet for certain words because the words're derived from greek
>>
>>21963909
If you're so adherent to etymology, I'm not sure why you use pedo instead of paedo, are you? You want to look up paed- and ped-? Excellent Hindi sideswipe there. I'll be waiting.
>>
>>21963935
realistically it would be just as simple of a leap and probably has occurred many times with other words. also etymology is just how the word formed. you can't be non adherent to etymology any more than you can unbirth yourself.
>>
>>21963880
I once slammed a ramune bottle against a building to get that marble. A cop saw me & scolded me & I said "how else would I get the free marble out?". He looked very confused/annoyed & just walked away.

nta and whilst the initial poster seems militant and visceral, from what I've seen Americans are much more caught up on vernacular, certain grammar etc. like they're incredulous and dumbfounded that it's not exactly the same as what they utilise.
>>
>>21964298
I forgot to add that the anon who started it was in fact correct about the etymology in his last post. Ped obviously has routes in foot.
>>
>>21964298
people just want to win arguments anymore. nobody cares about actually being right. I think americans are the worst when it comes to ignoring the truth in this regard.
>>
>>21964314
What I find is that they get angry when the same terminology isn't used, then when they're challenged, they're proud of their ignorance, like it makes them superior. At which point there's no point in continuing the discourse. It's tiresome.
>>
>>21963431
Gimmick. They're pretty mediocre drinks as a whole when compared to other Japanese drinks, but the marble gets everyone going.
>>
>>21963431
The heat capacity of the marble cools the ramune
