Serious question.

My intestines were functioning more or less normally last year. I could actually take a dump without ripping my asshole apart. Sure, it was messy, but that's what showers are for.

I got really into eating white cheddar flavored popcorn for a while. IDK if it's a seasonal thing or what, but now I can't find it in any of the local grocery stores (except in tiny individual-serving packs that cost $$$$$$$$$$$$).

Since stopping eating that stuff, my shit is ROCK HARD. It's a strain forcing it out, it often comes out as "pellets" that are agglomerated into enormous masses such that the shape is nowhere even close to cylindrical and literally tears my asshole as it gets forced out.

Last night I happened to find a big bag of white cheddar popcorn stuffed behind some other stuff in my pantry. I had a couple of cups of it. Today my shit is silk smooth and came out easily even though it was massive.

I'm quite sure that tomorrow it will be back to rock hard and nearly impossible to force out. It appears that I am now addicted to white cheddar popcorn and that the lack of it leads to long term intestinal problems.

Is there something I can do about this, other than stockpiling white cheddar popcorn whenever it becomes available?

I have a pretty varied diet. One of my favorites is turkey drumsticks with a side of broccoli or cauliflower in cheese sauce. I'll do a bunch of air fryer chicken wings and throw them on top of a bowl of brussels sprouts in butter sauce. Quesadillas with a bunch of tomato on them. Omelet with mushrooms and cheddar. Costco pizza whenever I don't feel like cooking.

It sounds like you're eating a lot of cheese which could contribute to constipation. I know it's cheddar popcorn but the actual amount of cheese on it is pretty low. Have you tried eating less cheese and maybe having more yogurt or milk if you still want dairy instead?

I know, I'm saying that if OP keeps eating a lot of cheese and butter but then eating something whole grain with a relatively low amount by comparison helps, it could just be too much cheese and butter in the other food causing constipation.

Cheese is dense, low in moisture, and high in fat, all of which slow digestion. And the casein protein which is the main protein in cheese is also one of the slowest digesting proteins. At least for me personally I notice having less issues like that when I drink milk instead of eating a lot of cheese.

I understand where you're coming from on that but it wasn't a problem last year until I started eating popcorn. In fact I've cut back trying to get things to go back to normal but that hasn't helped.

It's literally "ate popcorn, stopped eating popcorn, suddenly start shitting bricks, eat popcorn again, things go back to normal, stop eating popcorn, start shitting bricks, find a bag of remaining popcorn and eat some, things go back to normal."

There have been a few interruptions in the popcorn supply along the way and they've always resulted in shitting bricks, but now the white cheddar popcorn seems to be gone for months (Costco quit carrying it, Wal-Mart doesn't have it in stock, local grocery stores aren't carrying it except in tiny snack-pack bags).

I mean, I could buy the snack-pack sized bags, but holy fuck are those things expensive in comparison to the big 40oz Costco bags. We're talking $6.79 at Costco vs. probably $20 for the same product weight in snack-sized bags.

And what I don't get is, this stuff has no cause to be seasonal, so where did the big bags disappear to? Costco pulled the same trick a couple of years ago, dropping it from their stock items for probably eight months or so.

Digestive enzymes helped me. You can buy them as supplements or eat the following fruits which are high in enzymes:
Fresh pineapple
Papaya
Kiwi Fruit
Figs

They have to be fresh though, canned or dried don't work. Getting the tablets is probably cheaper.

What you're describing is a Type 2 on the Bristol Stool Chart. Ideally, you and to be a 3 or 4. There's a number of things that could cause constipation like this including a lack of fiber, dehydration, IBS, stress, lack of physical activity, etc. If eating popcorn solved it, it might be a fiber issue. I'd also make and effort to increase water intake if I were you. Your gut bacteria could also be off. Probiotics can help with this, or consuming a daily amount of something like sauerkraut or kefir that has probiotics in it can also help. I started eating a forkful of sauerkraut everyday because of the benefits to your gut microbiome as well as the extra fiber and it brought me from a Type 6 to a 5 easily.

try eating berries? they're low carb. maybe you need more soluble fiber since otherwise low carb vegetables are mostly insoluble. eating a lot of fat and insoluble fiber could cause constipation. corn has a lot of insoluble fiber but the starch could be acting more like soluble fiber.

Undigested fats for lack of bile. Have more acidic sauces/foods whatever, and prime a half hour before meals with citrus, or a spoon of apple cider vinegar (had the same isuues on chemotherapy). Avoid glutinous grains at the same time, can't hurt.

Secondarily: popcorn itself lends itself to loose shits, but the hydrogenated oils in the ingredients specifically give you swamp ass (among other undesirable metabolic downsides).

Take psyllium fiber daily.
Drink plenty of water. This is vital - if you don't do this the fiber will make the constipation worse.
Just doing these two things will lead to your shits being daily and soft most of the time.
Take polyethylene glycol instead of psyllium fiber for one day if your poop gets hard again, then go back to the fiber the next day. This will successfully reset you. Take PEG for two days and you will get serious mud butt that requires like 10-20 wipes to fully clean. Not fun.
