Do people really sell “plates” from their houses in America? Has anyone paid for a “plate” from a strangers house? How was it?

Indians do tiffin services. These are home cooked Indian meals that you can pickup or get delivered daily.
If you're near any large city you can probably find multiple tiffin delivery services. They advertise on FB marketplace.
I've known a bunch of Indian guys who use these. They're way cheaper than Doordash.
Picrel is a local tiffin service, today's menu:
Choice of 4 rotis or rice box + two veg curries for $10 delivered.

It's a scam to turn EBT into cash.
>>
>>21966174
I usually order a plate, pick it up from their home and then report them to the cops
>>
Yes

In hispanic communities, its not something advertised. Only word of mouth or through social media. Like, the “churro guy” was a guy who would occasionally make churros by hundreds, would take orders and do drop offs until he ran out, or the tamale woman would make a few hundred tamales to sell on a Tuesday out of her front door.

Selling full on plates is a black thing. No restraunts in the ghetto = a lady selling out of her house. Plus, black Americans enjoy soul food, which can’t be found in stores or restraunts, so they make it at home

Write people don’t have an equivalent

Its a nog and Mexican thing.

And its cancer. Imagine trying to leave your house and apartment complex and there's niggas eating and leaving trash everywhere. People are parked to pick up food so you cant park in the area where you live until some of them leave.

Every time something exists outside of "white culture" its for a good fucking reason.
>>
>>21966293
>nog and Mexican
And Asian. And Italian. And Cambodian. And Lao. And Puerto Rican. And Jewish. And Indian. And Sri Lankan. And Pakistani. And Russian. And Polish. And so on.
Also, there was a TV show I can't remember the name of with the dumb guy from Drew Carey playing the dad and his fat wife was selling lasagna out of their home kitchen in wealthy, suburban New England for some reason, I don't remember. What I do recall is that the family had a pet pig named Hans Gruber.

When I worked construction, sometimes a guy would bust out the smoker and sell delicious cheap lunches to all the workers. They'd take orders in the morning or day before, cook it all day, and have everything ready to go for everyone by lunch. No government bullshit involved, just a couple old men and a huge smoker drinking beers in their yard

>>
>>21966254
Because there are a lot of soul food restaurants around the country. There is one within 30 minutes of my house. Black people can absolutely get soul food at restaurants; the type of black people that buy full plates from some rando are the type that don't go out to restaurants that aren't fast food that often.
>>

There are often laws that are pretty much intended as bake sale exemptions. Where, you can sell food without having to pass kitchen health inspections. If, you stay under a certain revenue threshold per year.

I don't see the problem with it, I'm Hispanic and grew up with family friends making "plates" for when they needed extra money, raising funds for some event, etc... it'd be a full ass plate for $5 to $10 usually. I know with the nigs they use it as a form of ebt fraud then I understand the apprehension from buying via Facebook marketplace.

What are the reasons to be against it? what are you, gay germaphobes? the kitchens i've seen are cleaner than restaurants so it's not that, maybe it's a race thing. Are you racist /ck/?

I'm confused, allowing for more freedom is supposed to be an American thing right?
We fuck up in some areas but I'm perfectly fine on this one.
If you don't trust a regular jack off to safely cook food, IDK what to tell you. Who do you think is cooking in most kitchens? You don't have to be servsafe certified to get a job as a cook anyway.
I'd want to hear from people who've tried it before trying from just anyone but like, would desu

Soul food is incredibly easy to find in restaurants.
>>
>>21966174
Yes, its a very brown thing to do. People think they're making Michelin star food in styrofoam to-go containers and sell it above restaurant prices to other brown people.

Pic related. Theres another thats been selling her last dubai chocolate bars. Or sourdough loaves of bread, random cakes. Mexicans ALWAYS sell tamales around holidays. I understand what some of them are trying to do, make a shitload of food then sell it for a decent profit or jumpstart their food truck or small business. The problem is when they think selling a potato for $15, or a tamale for $5, or a cake for $100 is going to fund their future, they're clearly never going to get very far.

I wouldn't do this unless I actually knew the person doing the cooking and trusted their food. Having said that, I knew a few Hispanic families that would do it. I also live in a place that used to refuse to sell alcohol on Sundays and when I worked at a liquor store, one of those guys would come in and load up on alcohol. He'd then sell it to people on Sundays. Apparently, he made bank doing that for awhile.

idk about buying them, from stranger's houses, but selling plates is extremely common at schools or fairs. The typical gist is you pay for a ticket, you give the food guy your ticket, and he gives you a plate with a bunch of food on it.

Now the jewish part of this scam is that the price for the food you get is obviously horrible on top of the food being low quality, hence the slight mind-trick and obfuscation by turning your money into a ticket into food, instead of turning your money into food. It's kinda like how gacha games have you turn your money into sillygems which you have to turn into stamina to farm faggotcoins which then let you pull on gacha characters. They often justify the kikery by saying it's for "charity" or something like that, when the school just uses the money to buy more school supplies while pocketing what was supposed to be their already allocated school supply fund. Also it makes it slightly harder to get a refund since "hurr you already got ur plate! I can't just refund you a ticket!". All in all, plate-selling is just one massive grift, and that's at the institutional level. Anyone that's trying this shit from their home or whatever is just some greasy scamming nigger.

Food health regulations were written in blood. I known this. Laws were made because butchers would use rancid meat in sausages. And bakers would use sawdust in bread. And even today. It's pretty common you hear about E Coli outbreaks at fastfood chains, Listeria outbreaks from deli meat manufacturers, Hep C outbreaks from imported frozen fruit. So, food poisoning is still very much a risk you should be careful about. Because it can fuck you up. But, saying all that. I do agree. It's dumb to not trust somebody's home cooking. It's probably fine. Especially if they have an OK reputation in the community.

My small town FB has this. I have done it, and the food is crazy good with huge portions for $8 CAD. Usually comes with a dessert too or bread and butter. Insane value.
Plus we got homemade perogies, cabbage rolls, borscht, pickled jars of various vegetables, eggs, chickens, sausages, pepperoni sticks all on the local FB group. Nobody is ripping anybody off. Fair price for goods. I do consider myself very lucky.

It's a ghetto tradition but it's fucking rad.

In some places it's just like a ghost kitchen where you order take out from, and uber picks it up from some random persons house. But there's also an even grittier version where people will just cook at home and take the food out onto the street in Styrofoam containers.

But these are people you actually know, who live down the road from you, it's more like a community thing then the kind of hawking you set in tourist areas.

I do in fact sell plates, Monday lunch time to avoid drunks and crack heads. Menu is pretty much set.
>plain rice
Because somehow people don't know how to cook rice, but it's also the most common side order.
>gumbo
Some people order it as a main, but it's also a common side order
>bread
I just resell it. Easiest quarter you'll ever make. Mostly it's for the gumbo
>chilli dogs
I have the bread, half the chilli ingredients are the same as the gumbo, most common stand alone order
>hot dogs
See above
>chicken spicy
Textured chicken Bologna fried Chinese style with Cajun spices. Usually goes out with bread, rice.

Nothing about the food is special but there's nothing special about mcdonalds either. People order it because they can't even cut up an onion, can't make mac and Cheese, have no stove, are homeless, whatever.

But you get a large rice, spicy chicken, four rolls, for $6 which is the same price as a single mcvalue meal. And people often just throw in whatever else they have in the house to make it a four person meal.

Chilli dogs are $2.50, hot dogs are $2. Just because we're closer than anywhere that sells food.

The other really cool thing about our places is that you can place the most fucked up order and because we don't use COGS you just get the food price on it. Extras are cheaper than the official menu items, the reverse of nickle and dime
>>
>>21967886
>My boss at one of my previous jobs bought tamales from a lady like that
In some cities it's a really common thing. When I lived in Portland, OR, there was always a tamale lady coming around selling them out of a cooler she pulled behind her. Bought them many times and they were cheap and really good.
