Not just ice. Cold water generally is bad. If you wanna be hydrated, there is no point in the water being cold. You just get brain freeze or, at least, there's a hard cap on how much you can chug before it's uncomfortable. with room temp/warm water you can drink an enormous amount. They say funny stuff like "warm water helps cure illness" but in reality there is some wisdom to their ways

Chinese beliefs about cold water was started when the people who didn't boil their water died of disease and instead of concluding that "boiling sanitizes"like the west they explained it as "cold water makes you sick"
