So I want to make normal Carolina rice in the microwave. I have a pressure cooker but I hate having to clean it out and the pot is too big to eat out of. I would get a smaller rice cooker with a removable bowl that I could just eat out of but I live with my parents and they are hoarders so basically there is no counter space for it. So I would like to find a way to cook rice in the glass bowl I'm going to eat it out of. Anyone done this? I can put a plate over it to cover it of course, I do that for vermicelli rice noodles a lot, but I'd like to start doing it for rice too. Just to minimize dishes as much as possible. I could make it on the stove in a small pot and just eat out of that but I would like to avoid it. Anyone done it in a microwave or with a hot plate and letting it soak? I'd like to be able to leave it cooking while I shower before work.
>Anyone done this?Yes.
>>21974860how do you do it?
oh also I forgot to add, I hate refrigerating rice, it never reheats the same way, so I would like to be able to, when I want to eat a bowl of rice, literally make just a bowl of rice.
Yes and you unlock a great many opportunities for amazing microwave cooking when you master the Power button.
>>21974855>I live with my parents and they are hoarders so basically there is no counter space for itbeen there. Good luck moving out some day broif you aren't broke as fuck, it's work experimenting. You said you're gonna use glass, so I think that would work. Hot water + rice is what a rice cooker does. The texture might be a bit different, but you gotta survive lil bro
>>21974878you put the rice in the microwave.
>>21974855>I could make it on the stove in a small pot and just eat out of that but I would like to avoid it.Why?
>>21974949doesnt know how to heat the stove plates. its just circles and numbers, wheres the giant text that says "CLICK THIS" ?
>>21974949So you shoud not have written "i could make it on the stove". Instead you shouldve written "i cant make it on the stove at all because a stove is too complicated for me".Be more accutate with your language next time.
>>21974959>>21974949I can make it on the stove I just hate eating out of a pot with a handle sticking out.
>>21974880when you reheat rice from the fridge, put a little bit of water in the bottom and microwave it covered. it will steam and come out basically the same as when it was fresh.
>>21974855i used to make brown rice in the microwave and it turned out pretty well. can't give you any specifics on time/measurements but it's possible.
>>21974855do you have a small non stick pan? i got one for eggs from ALDI for 5€. it's only 20cm and i didn't want to get a rice cooker either but at some point i realized that the small non stick pan is no different than a cheap rice cooker. you don't even need a lid. aluminum foil or a plate works too. just wash and cook the rice for a few minutes and then you let it steam
>>21975647I'll try that.it still sticks together though>>21975650Roughly how long did it take?>>21975658I might try this. I just worry about scraping it eating out of it with a spoon and getting cancer from the coating.
>>21975679>Roughly how long did it take?for brown rice i think it was 40 minutes, so it was a little faster than on the stovetop. no idea about white rice.
>>21975683>40 minutes in the microwave
>>21975679you'll have to get a wooden or a plastic spoon if you really don't want to use plates but who eats rice without anything? you'll need a plate for the meat anyway. it's just one plate. it's not that much work
>>21975689:D
>>21975691I eat rice by itself.>>21975683holy shitokay maybe this isn't a good idea then.I was figuring I could steam it with a small amount of water, like with vermicelli rice noodles it takes 4 or 5 minutes tops.
The heat from the microwaves cooks the rice.
>>21974855get a 20$ rice cooker
>>21975742well white rice will still cook faster. brown rice always takes a lot longer. i dunno about 5 minutes though but probably 10-15.
>>21974855since nobody is gonna actually answer OP and continue gatekeeping FUCKING RICE (i hate this board sometimes god) just throw a tiny bit of water in there and microwave it for like 1 minute or two. that's it.
>>21976087it might take longer if you aren't reheating already cooked rice though.
>>21976087will that actually work? I'll give it a shot.
>>21974855>cover with sandwich paper or whatever>tear a hole in the top>do it at 8 power until done
>>21976378that's for reheating rice and not cooking it from raw
>>21974855>I would get a smaller rice cooker with a removable bowl that I could just eat out of but I live with my parents and they are hoarders so basically there is no counter space for it.A rice cooker doesn't need counterspace. You can put it anywhere so long as you have a hot pad that you can use to take the bowl out of it.Just measure the rice into it, use a bathroom sink to add the water. Use the included paddle to mix/drain/rinse to your preference in a bathroom sink. Then take it to whatever room you want to and plug it in.I tend to plug mine into an outlet in the dining room because I don't want to steam the underside of my wall cabinets, and it's going to be moved to the table when it's time to eat anyway.I got a tiny $17 one that maxes out at 4 servings.
