What do the intellectual giants of /ck/ think of uuuhhhhhhhhhhhhh pork chops? I just noticed they're cheap as fuck at my local grocery story compared to beef and chicken. Never cooked a pork chop in my life.
They’re good
>>21978935I will be brining and cooking pock chops today anon we should do this together.>brine of 1tbsp table salt per cup of water>2 tbsp brown sugar per cup of water>4-8 hoursI don't normally season my brine, so once their good and brone I'm just gonna sizzle them up on a grillpan for that nice restaurant style cross-hatching. I will get the brine going now but it won't be ready for many hours
>>21978935they're good but i haven't noticed them being that cheap round hya unless they're sirloin chops and those are kinda ehhhhhh
>>21979035*for the leaner ones you basically treat them like chicken breast because they don't have much intramuscular fat
It's cheap because pigs are fed literal garbage in North America.
>>21978935Look up a recipe for Norman pork chops or pork chops NormandyMake it with pink lady apples, you don't have to peel them
It's my main proteinCheap as chickenBut not as tasteless and filthy
>>21979039It’s because they’re paying Mexicans to work for like a dollar a week. Thats partly how America became so wealthy, they have the largest functioning gulag in the world. The average American has over a $1,100,000 in their bank. Thats AVERAGE. Lol, that’s a big deal. A Mexican would need to work for hundreds of years to make that.
>>21979057Average doesn't mean much when there are like 50 people with hundreds of billions of dollarsMedian income is like 35k
>>21979067$45k in 2024 for individuals 15 and over. But yes that anon is taking the piss.https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/MEPAINUSA672N
>>21979067No literally over half of everybody in that country has that much asset value. Lol new York looks so fucking scary to me, they pay like $300 for a parking stall then spend thousands on dinner. What are they even eating, it’s all so secretive because of how poor Canada is compared to them. My dinner is like $6.
>>21979076I looked up the average and median size + the average and median monthly rent of a studio apartment in NYC (not just Manhattan). The size was low to mid 400 sqft for both mean and median, while the monthly rent was over $4,000 for both mean and median.
>>21978935Pound them out nice and thin and make schnitzel.
>>21978935never buy center cut. they're just sliced pork loin which costs half as much and it's the easiest butcher in animal slicing
>>21978935Cheaper than chicken for me too. I like them in a cast iron, seared, then finished in oven surrounded by veggies. Also, cut into cubes, fried in pan, add veggies and rice and your sauce of choice. I make a sauce (idk what it is called) with soy sauce, oyster sauce, mirin, ginger, and some garlic that goes really well with it.
>>21979057The average American is one missed paycheck away from eviction and defaulting on all their credit cards.
>>21979090I think I'm gonna pound and brine mine, and forget the grillpan I might just griddle them. they might fall apart which isn't a terrible thing!
>>21978935They’re incredibly inexpensive (most pork that isn’t le epik bacon) is. Turn out great if you brine + season them well and don’t overcook them like boomers do.But eating pigs is fucking evil. Absolutely not from a religious angle. Study after study has shown they have intelligence equal to 3 year old human children.
>>21979103That doesn’t even sound slightly true dude you’re just one of the tarded ones. You literally were given Mexico, the entire place, basically for free. All those people work for free. And, if you’re still struggling to pay for rent, just imagine what it’s actually like for diabeeto. Diabeeto crosses my mind every couple minutes. I wonder, what would he have been like if he did not get diabeetus. Anyways yeah it’s all kinda secretive because of how extreme the difference is for America. Even you were fooled, you seriously thought Americans were poor that’s fucking funny.
>>21979116they're big though. would you kill one three year old or 50 one year olds? In fact you should eat whale meat, that's like 1 ten year old.
>>21978935idk wtf a "pork chop" even is. That's American cuisine for you I guess. There are at least four different kinds of pork cuts commonly available (sirloin, ham, and _two entirely different_ "shoulder" cuts). They make completely different meals and call for completely different preparation. One popular "shoulder" cut (of red meat) should be basically indistinguishable form beef steaks if that's what you're looking for.
>>21979743A "pork chop" is some piece of pork I guess. Am I right?Them shops aren't making it easy for you.
Sorry bros I got drunk and will have to cook my 'chops tomorrow, or maybe late tonight if I can manage but probably tomorrow. They are currently brining to death in salt/brown sugar and by the time I take them out and pound them thin they'll be salty as fuck and I welcome it.>>21978954
Based and prok pilled
i like pork chomps
>>21979779looks very nice, what's the mash though?
>>21979081I like that image
>>21979794It’s all yours my friend
>>21979782Looks like chickpeas.
>>21978935Lazy way to do it is rub them with oil or mayo and powdered seasoning on top, very quick in the oven
>>21979055>chicken>tastelessi fucking love chicken, ive had bad pork but never bad chicken
OP I feel like they are fucking awesome and pretty versatile. I buy a whole loin from same for like 20 bucks, break it down myself, then freeze portions off.
>>21979782>>21979914boiled yellow potatoes and broccoli stems mashed with butter and chicken stock, sauteed finely chopped broccoli buds and onions, S&P
>>21978935Cook it and eat it like a steak except the applesauce
>>21978954dem shits b tastin betta with da bake n shake
>>21978935They're pretty good. Quick brine em, season em however you like, cook to medium or medium well. Or bread & fry em and use as katsu or schnitzel.
>>21980589my mother always made chops with Shake & Bake. she never brined anything and overcooked the shit out everything too so I can't decide if I like it or not.
>>21978935If I ever went keto and I had to do it on a budget I would eat a shitload of porkchops with eggs and veggies. I never understood why this cut is so extremely cheap when it's clearly one of the tastiest pork cuts.
>>21978935Overall a solid cut of meat. Affordable, doesn't taste to bad. Normally I will either fry them in cutlets or grind them up to make homemade sausage.
>>21980606people don't know how to cook them so they aren't that popular. they don't brine them, and think they need to be cooked well done (which was somewhat true once, but not anymore) so they turn out dry and tough. they also don't have the prestige of a steak, or the universal appeal of a chicken breast. so people pass them up. I'm okay with it though, keeps them cheap. I like to buy those big pork loins and cut them into chops. it's hard to find a cut of meat that's better bang for your buck.
>>21980681>people cook them well doneHuh now that you mention it other people always seem to overcook them. For me I just see them as a cheap steak alternative. Also great for Asian pork dishes.
>>21980730you used to have to cook pork well done because it was a major carrier of parasites. those harmful parasites have basically been eradicated (at least in 1st world countries) but a lot of people's cooking techniques haven't caught up to that yet and they keep passing down that you need to fully cook them. I wouldn't cook a pork chop as rare as I like steak (although you can), but around medium to medium well is ideal.
>>21979090Hell yeah.I thought this was a weeb site.Tonkatsu is almost the same thing except with panko breadcrumbs.Slice it into strips after frying, serve with shredded cabbage and rice.A Japanese person I know prefers Bulldog brand sauce to serve it with, but A1 is pretty close. I guess it's pretty simple to make a similar sauce, but I've never bothered.
>>21978935Always take the bone-in cuts. Chops are pretty basic flavored by themselves. They can definitely use the help of a grill or dish. The bone makes them significantly better and gives a little extra I like to use for stock or sauce.
>>21980606pork's actually kind of expensive right now in the US. pig stocks are very low and there's lots of demand for the shoulders because of barbecue shit, and the only thing that's cheap is loin, which is flavorless protein that cooks like chicken breast.
Versatile. Just look up basic recipes. You can shallow fry, grilled, bake, cube it and cook in a pan to go in something else.
>>21978935Theyre good. I like to marinate mine in orange juice and a bit of BBQ sauce
