I want to start making food for my cat. I feel bad that he only eats dry food, with occasional wet food and treats. He's a indoor cat. 5 year old tabby. Any tips and tricks?
>>
yeah take any dead animal and feed to your cat, raw or cooked. in the wild cats bite birds and mice into chunks and swallow the whole chunks, bones and all. cats are not evolved to eat cooked food and the micronutrient profile of anything you cook will probably be worse than commercial cat food which has been engineered to not kill your cat with nutrient deficiencies.

He should eat wet food everyday. Dry food cats often develop kidney issues because they don't drink enough water and they aren't getting liquid from their dry kibble. Cats in the wild get liquid from they're food.
>>
Go to a pond. Catch some crappie fish. Throw TYEM in the garden for fertilizer and cat food. If u find a super good spot and can haul in some good sized ones every couple minutes. Keep some. They are good but tedious to clean

Take cheap meat, organs, chicken bones, etc. Chop it up fine. Serve. Wa la.
>>

i agree. I have noticed that he doesn't drink a lot of water, which is weird because....you would think they would want too but they dont know in there little kitty brain.
I would love for have him to go out in the wild and thrive on birds and whatever else...but that is not a option, don't want kitty get ran over.

get a cat water fountain. cats are attracted to moving water because it biologically signifies the safest source of water in the wild.
>>
Go to aldi and get the frozen tuna sealed pieces, I give my cat one of those a week with normal cat food. She also steals whatever food is around, but she is in top shape.
>>
>>21989868
Adding on to this, I've heard cats benefit from both wet and dry food. The dry food helps keep their teeth clean.

fish is a common allergen for cats despite them being associated with loving to eat fish so be careful giving that and watch for any digestive issues if you do. cats can have small raw bones but cooked bones can splinter and puncture their intestine. don't give grapes, chocolate, onion/garlic since they're toxic to cats. don't give too much milk since they're lactose intolerant.

there are companies making raw cat food, or some stores sell refrigerated but cooked cat food. you could also just buy higher quality canned food for treats. otherwise just do this >>21989870
>>
Lots of good info so far, only thing I can add is I think human amounts of salt is too much for cat kidneys, so you don’t want to give them stuff like canned tuna or sausages for humans
>>
>>21989851
Why not just give your cat little pieces of meat when your cooking? like, buy a larger steak/pork chop than you would usually eat and give him part of it in smaller pieces. Make sure it's not seasoned.
>>21989921
That is so cool, never heard of that before. Easy cheap Christmas gift for every person I know that owns a cat.

>stomach acid

Too much wetting is counter productive. Look up videos on raw food recipes. Occasionally throw in fish for the Omega-3s. It'll look like you hunted it, which they'll appreciate.

This. Don't even have to chop it up if it's just organs. Many cats go bonkers for kidneys (fair warning they reek of piss).

I also gave my cat kefir, he loved that. Also, chicken heads/necks/feet are good, you can buy them at asian places for cheap. Only real problem is cats are retarded and finicky and might refuse to eat a given type of food randomly.

This x2. Also because their whiskers are extremely sensitive it tickles/irritates when they bend over to drink from a bowl which is one reason why you often see pics/vids of cats licking dripping faucets whose drops/stream keep out of their whiskers plus being instinctually attracted to moving water as mentioned. Most cats do not naturally have the ability to SLOPSLOPSLOP like dogs.

You do not "cook" for the cat, it prefers raw meat.

Feed it ground beef, chicken ir cow liver and other cheap cuts of meat.
>>
>>21989868
And then his fucking teeth falls out from not being properly used. You should have a mix of both types

Cats can straight up drink sea water
>>
>>21990526
to be fair that poster didn't say only eat wet food, just to have some every day. giving some wet food every day is also good because it usually has less starchy filler than dry food too.
>>
Anytime I make burgers, meatloaf...anything with ground beef, my cat starts going crazy and won't stop harassing me until I give him some raw beef. He doesn't do this with any other kind of meat.
>>
>>21990528
neat. probably not good for them to be doing that long term though.
>>
>>21990526
Sorry, I didn't specify a mix of wet and dry food. You're correct. That's how I feed my indoor kitty and he's 15 and has zero dental issues. I also give him special dental dry food from his vet. And to add to water fountains for non drinking cats, some like them some don't like most cat things. It isn't a magic bullet solution but it's definitely worth a try if your cat doesn't drink enough.
>>
>>21991462
why would your vet give you special dental food if your cat didn't have dental issues?
>>
>>21991480
To prevent issues as he ages. Like how people brush their teeth to prevent future issues, not because there's a current problem.
>>
My cats go wild over pancakes with milk poured over them
>>
>>21989851
Try mice from the pet store. If you don't like killing things (I don't) you can buy them dead and frozen
Also, raw fish from the supermarket, so maybe you can make sushi for him/her/they/them/xim/xir.
I had an indoor cat that wouldn't eat anything but cat food, not even tuna, but he would fight his way through 10 hells to get at some canned cat food.
I miss that little nigga like you wouldn't believe.
>>
My cat loves to eat rubber bands, plastic bags, strings, and ribbons of any kind. Once when I was cleaning his litter box I found two turds stuck together by a piece of red Christmas wrapping ribbon. It was a cat shit nunchuck.

HOLY SHIT.

I once got a cat cookbook. One of the things they had was chicken and fish that you cut real small and bake the shit out of. It essentially makes jerky. Then you can jar it and give it to your kotto as a treat. There was a salmon mousse recipe in there that I made and my cat did not give a fuck. He was into his fresh game so I started getting him raw lamb, veal, beef.
>>
>>21989851
My cats love raw shrimp and raw fish pieces, freeze dried chicken hearts and chicken kidneys. They are 7, 5, and 2 respectively and are all super healthy. Just give them raw meat see if they bite, so to speak

Post the kitty
Feed him uncooked or lightly cooked meat or fish, cleaned organ meats, have running water nearby
Do not feed him lasagna or human food in general
Dont feed him grains or fruits, cats are 100% carnivores
Ive seen cat eat a strawberry and he exploded

If you're gonna spend $10 a day feeding your animal just buy some really upmarket wet food brand like tiki cat
>>
>>21989851
Get chicken or something and gently poach it until its warm. Animals like it warm because prey eaten in the wild would be body temperature, not cold.
>>
>>21992031
>Dont feed him grains or fruits, cats are 100% carnivores
cats do like to eat some plant foods. they might eat stomach contents of prey. also feeding them too much fish can be bad, they're more likely to be allergic to it, it can cause deficiencies for whatever reason and other health problems.
