regardless if you grow your own potatoes or buy em, do store them in a paper bag rather than a plastic one. plastic keeps all humidity inside, leading to mold sooner than preferred.
or get a proper potato cellar, that works too.

If you're making cultured butter and you're going to be using a stand mixer for the eventual whipping, culture the heavy cream in the removable bowl of your mixer so you don't need to transfer it between your culturing vessel and the stand mixer bowl once you're ready to whip it.

When you buy green onions, cut the green parts off and use them or freeze them. Then put the white root parts in water. They will regrow the green parts. You can cut the new green parts off and then put the white root parts in fresh water again. They will regrow again and again.

you can also just plant them outside in a flower bed or a pot. they're basically invasive with how easily they grow and spread. make sure to keep them trimmed even if you aren't using them because they will eventually get dry and woody and inedible.

I don't know what I do but regardless of how I store green onions (water, fridge, etc.) within a day they just bend over and become limp

Californians will complain about AI destroying water but not turning it into onions.
>>
>>21992062
The water "hack" yields entirely flavourless onions. Stop telling people to do that.

Y'know, I'm starting to think some people are cursed. My neighbour complains that she can't buy lettuce anymore because it rots before she can finish it and mushrooms just "rot if [she] look[s] at them funny". Meanwhile, my wife and I have kept lettuce and mushrooms around for weeks and they're perfectly fine.

The most important thing with root vegetables is keeping them in cool and dark conditions. The ground is wet, potatoes don't rot in the ground for months.

Paper can br a problem because if the paper gets wet mold can grow on it, and the potato is wet. This is why you will get one bad piece of fruit or vegetable and suddenly the whole lot goes bad

I store them in a wooden box. Seems to work well for me.
>>
>>21992062
i do this but my green onions turn pale and have very thin walls after the first reharvest like theyre not getting enough nutrients to keep making good onion or something
>>

Try adding some tea or coffee into the water. Vegetable scraps also help. But eventually it's better to just put them in soil outside if you wanna keep them growing

You can't store potatoes bought in American grocery stores. They sit in warehouses for 6 months and then get shipped to grocery stores where they sit in the back room for weeks until each box is exactly 1 day away from rotting and sprouting, that box gets put out on the shelves that day.

Potatoes purchased in American grocery stores only last about 1 day. If you aren't cooking them the same day you bought them it doesn't matter how you store them, they're sprouting tomorrow.

Same with a burlap covering. Wood and burlap allow air to flow through, mine keep for months. Just finished lunch at work, a cold potato no seasoning.

Tap water does not have enought nutrients. You need to repot in good soil

Yeah, I got a tip for /ck/
*unzips pants and farts loudly*
>>
>>21993870
Tap water is sometimes lightly chlorinated too, it'll kill plants.
>>
Apply a pinch of baking soda before attempting to mix acidic fruit juice and milk. The sodium bicarbonate will stabilize the acid and prevent curdling.
>>
>>21993872
The “tip” was referring to my penis by the way. The fart was just a courtesy

So would any other root cellar outside your house. If you're that worried yet motivated, make a 3 ft tall wood box in your basement, add a layer of dirt on the bottom, add the trash can inside the box, and then surround that with dirt. Or you aren't motivated and you can use a cardboard box and some crumpled newspaper on a shelf in your basement. Assuming you have a basement. See if I care.

I bought a dedicated potato storage bag on Temu for just a few bucks.
It works fine. the inside is black to avoid or at least delay sprouting.
>>
>>21992623
That sounds nefarious and all but obviously potatoes are only harvested certain months and buying them other times is the same ones.
>>
>>21992049
Or just buy em in a net.

I never tried it but this is always what I assume too, at least after the first or second time you do this

Grow them yourself, they keep for months when not bought from a grocery store. Grocery store potatoes are already stored for months before you buy them, they're at their maximum limit.
