Back when gasoline wasn't absurdly expensive asparagus was a reward for touching grass. Off the farm it's 300-800% less expensive. Only fish and bulk beef have comparable savings.

If any of you have a yard, asparagus is the best vegetable to grow imo. It is perennial so you only have to plant it once and you get fresh asparagus for like 4 months straight and it gets better year after year. I plant mine with strawberries as they take up different biotic spaces (asparagus is deep and tall, strawberries are shallow and short).

Gasoline is absurdly cheap in America, even now. It's twice as expensive here in Germany

Wild asparagus are free and taste better

I was planning on adding a strawberry patch to my huge non manageable garden so I’ll consider your strawberry/Asparagus intercrop approach. My other intercrop idea was strawberries/blueberries. The strawberries acting as a ground cover/mulch for the blueberries. The strawberries tolerate the acidity the blueberries need as well. I really just grow turnips, lettuce, peas, broccoli, cabbage, arugula, and onions in the spring so asparagus would be nice and yield before any of that.

My former coworker brought in a whole bunch of asparagus to just give away because she liked collecting it. It was delicious and I miss working there. Never take for granted what you have bros, people who might not seem to care really do when you give them the time

I think the blueberries would shade the strawberries too much. With asparagus you are cutting it daily through the spring and you let it go in the heat of summer, giving the strawberries a little relief from getting scorched.
I have a pretty old blueberry patch I got with my house and they do not permit much to grow at their feet when they are well-developed.
