Anyone else can't eat anything pre-made anymore because it all tastes sickeningly sweet?

Everything has always had sugar added to it but now it feels like it's the dominant flavor I taste when consuming these foods, so everything tastes the same.

To a point. I don't mind sodas or ketchup sometimes. Desserts still taste too sweet sometimes and bread doesn't really need it. The only way I can eat ice cream anymore is with some peanut butter or made into a milkshake to cut the sweetness.

Things are much better now than they were in the days before preservatives and refrigeration technology existed, when sugaring was one of the few effective ways to preserve food.

I wasn't talking as a generational food trend, more on personal taste

I'm sorry to hear that you can no longer smell or taste food because of smoking/long covid.

Yeah that's called turning 26. You're not a growing boy anymore, your body doesn't need so much cheap energy so now sugar doesn't taste as good.

Disprefering sugar is the default mode for adults, that's why we say someone has a sweet tooth as if it's the exception.

I've had this same thought process.
I'm an American, so everything in our food is loaded with sugar. But I have teeth problems and can't afford to fix them, cause I'm an American.
I used to be a soda freak, like 4 2-liters a week, now I drink Lemon water in a Thermos. I don't sugar up my coffee anymore, I try to just appreicate the heat and the bitterness.

Maybe it’s just me but sometimes I’ll go through phases where I undisprefer sugar and crave sweets

>buns just taste like sugar bread
Most buns have sugar added for texture, not sweetness, unless you're getting some real bottom-of-the-barrel stuff. Agree generally though, particularly with sweets, which are usually totally one-note or cloyingly sweet with no balance.
I don't get how people can stand that sort of thing, but people probably get addicted to the sugar.

The only foods I eat out for anymore are fried. I hate deep-frying at home because of how messy and smelly it is. If I do have to fry at home I do it outside and use coconut oil.
