What's the difference between Heavy Cream, Double Cream, and Whipping Cream?Which one is right for making Mashed Potatoes or does it hardly matter?
can't answer that question unless we know what country you're in because the legal definition of various cream changes
>>21998016England then, since it apparently matters.
>>21998065then I'd use double cream since it's the closest thing to liquid butter. the heaviest cream I can find in the US is 35%. Double cream is much richer than that.It really depends what you're going for in your mashed potatoes though. Some people really like pommes puree but I prefer mine thicker and less buttery so I usually use butter and sour cream, then use whole milk to get the texture right.
>>21998014Hardly matters for mashed potatoes but personally I use something around 10-15%Whipping cream will whip, lower fat concentrated creams won'tWhipping cream is too fatty for cream based sauces like alfredo that have even more fat from butter and cheese, they'll be too greasy and break easier
>>21998090>>21998288Thanks, I also wanted to know but forgot to ask: what's a good ratio of potatoes to butter to double cream to go for, for a good mash result?
>>21998065Heavy cream is what Americans call double cream.
Also you should use scalded milk, and butter, not cream in your potatoes
>>21998065>EnglandDoubtful.I've never heard a Brit say mashed potatoES. Only Americans do that. It's mashed potato. Or just mash.
>>21999195>It's mashed potatoWhy not potato mash?
>>21999164classic french is 1:1 weight ratio of potato to milk/butter/cream.
>>21999200Just isn't.>>21999202Nobody cares what the cheese-eating surrender monkeys do.
>>21999202More like 500 g potatoes, 100 g butter and milk only for consistency.
usually fat
>>21999195>just mashNope. Brits always have to specify if it's mashed potatoes because they also mash turnips and peas.
>>21999172TIL, thanks :3
>>21999172"scalded" milk?
>>22000698The existence of bangers and mash disproves your retarded assertion, retard.
>>22002039That's because the mash in bangers and mash are mashed turnips, which proves my informed assertion, retard.
