It's hot dog season. But has anyone else noticed that across the board, every name brand of hot dogs you can buy in America has dipped in quality? >inb4 hot dogs are slop I know this but they used to be acceptable. Recently every time I try to make hot dogs, going back a year or two, there's an issue that makes me lose my appetite: hard bits of mystery substance in the dogs, chewy gristle, they don't crisp up right on a pan. What have they done to the humble hot dog? Used to be a safe bet to get Nathan's, Sabrett, Hebrew National or even Ball Park Angus, even those Johnsonville "brats" were good but all of these brands have betrayed my trust in the last while.>inb4 some retard comes in talking about beef hot dogs suck and you need skin
You need to get beef hot dogs with skin
>>21999729Try making your own hot dogs!
I made this thread because I just ate a Hillshire Farms hot dog for lunch, it sucked ass but they were on sale. Way too salty, pretty dry, didn't crisp up and there was a weird spongey bit in one bite that I had to spit out. Used to be once every couple years this would happen not once every couple of weiners!
>>21999729>It's hot dog season.what the fuck is "hot dog season"?hot dogs don't only become available in may.

>>21999729I've never had a problem with Hebrew National or Boar's Head. Also Nathan's and Sabrett have always been garbage.
I mainly eat bun-length Angus beef hotdogs. Usually Ballpark, but used to be Oscar Meyer. OM cheaped out after Covid and stopped making the package resealable. I like Nathan’s and Sabrett for a “street dog”, but the wife says she doesn’t like the smell.
>>21999729Always been a Nathan’s guy but thought they tasted a little underwhelming lately …will be interesting to see how chestnut responds to it on the 4th
Lately I've been skipping hot dogs and going for Costco brats and chicken sausage. Chicken and pork are cheaper and more plentiful than beef, so the quality is still good.
>>21999729i looked at hot dogs the other day and they arent even pork anymore. they were a mix of turkey and chicken and pork.
I refuse to pay >$5/lb for hotdogs, so the only ones available are the lowest cost walmart ones. They could be worse all things considered. They have so little substance they can't hold heat. I'm not actually sure how they even manage that. Maybe soaking them in water would help.
>>21999985Hotdogs were always beef.
>>21999999Czech'd
>>21999729Only trust Kirkland at this point. Would rather have a Spam dog than whatever they're doing to the legacy national dog brands.>>21999975>Hebrew National Comically shrinkflated, chewy. Had one after decades of not, and they're not quality, as in off tasting. >>21999993>I'm not actually sure how they even manage that.Filler.
>>21999752people usually grill more during warmer months and hot dogs are a common food for that
>>21999729 hot dog>assholes and nipples and dicks and lips into a paste
I make hotdogs with Kransky or some other type of European sausage.
>>21999984>that thumb>that watch>that complexion>costcothe prophecy of mike judge in action...
>>21999729Sabrett and Kirkland are both still good
Usually butcher shops have good hot dogs
>>21999729I don't eat hot dogs because I'm not a kid whose parents don't love him.
