I just bought some smoked salmon and bagels I want to try lox do i only need cream cheese with it? Ive been seeing online people do dill, red onion and capers but idk what the traditional way to do it is or what taste best
My grandma likes cream cheese and lox on a flat bagel. I use to date a girl who like it with capers too. Me personally I don't like lox.
you can eat it plain you dumb fuck. red onion and dill are common addons. cream cheese is overpowering but works well with bagels
>>22002271cold smoked fish is shit, gravlax bros unite
jews invented cured salmon
>>22002271You can cut the bagel into quarters and try each version individually
>>22002283What this anon said. Also capers can be good
>>22002338Thats what I was thinking they opened a synagogue in my town a year ago so now all the grocery stores have jewish sections in the international aisle so im just trying new stuff im pescatarian. >>22002271oh those are seedsi thought you turned the bagel into pure carbon
>Rye breadhttps://www.vaasan.fi/en/products/all-products/Vaasan-ruispalat-ohut-herkku/>Butter>Cold smoked salmon>Salt>Dill>Citron sliceIs the way god intended this to be eaten. If you're rich you can add red caviar. Drinks:>Milk>Beer>Vodka
>>22002271Dill does go well with it, but not necessary. The sharpness of the onion and sourness of the capers is nice. You could chop or slice up some spicy dills and check the same boxes.
>>22002292Only because the salmon of the Red Sea are all very ill.
Cream cheese red onion or pickled onions and capers areCream cheese and capers are essential IMO. Tomato, red onion or pickled onion, and dill are nice upgrades. If you don't have at least the cream cheese you wil get flavor fatigue from the smoked salmon in my experience.
>>22002456I could eat smoked salmon as is until it killed me. On some chewy rye with some butter... it does need a pinch of sour - lemon, sour cream, capers, pickles, even balsamic or a splash of malt vinegar. If I'm eating on bread or toast or bagels, it's rare that I'd eat enough to get tired of it, but I find that something with some firmness (toasting the bread/bagel, raw onion), something sharp (onion, caper, hot pepper), and something sour (lemon, vinegar of some kind, pickles) do help it a lot.
>>22002283So should do salmon and bread?
>>22002384Outside of cured meats and bread, most other jew cuisine is not good
Cream cheese, tomato, red onions, capers is all you need
>>22002683I ended up getting everything i needed yesterday its not very pretty but this was my first attempt I think I used too many capers but it was good still :)
>>22003717Oi vey that ain't enough cream cheese for this shabbos goy
>>22002384Oh wow, I would love to have a Jewish section on my local supermarket. Anyways, what's with Jews moving in to to American small towns? Are they moving out of the cities because of antisemitism or something? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cubO0lhOMcs&t=1687s>>22002271plain with cream cheese is fine, you don't really need to add anything, you are allowed but don't have to.
>>22003721Yeah next time im gonna do more im bad about portioning
>>22002285what are you talking about, gravlax uses the same process but without the smoking at the end.
>>22002271Cream cheese is good on it, but a very thin amount, only.
>>22002271whatever you like man. I like mine with dill, tomato and pickled onion. but seriously just whatever you think sounds good don't worry about what is "traditional"
