Can we talk about how when shopping for food to cook there’s no FUCKING room to bag FUCKING anything on these things?
>>
>>22002290
Skill issue.

I'd like to talk about Walmart's self checkout using AI to speed up shoppers. When I put a bag of things on the scale and tap "lookup item" it 9.5 times out of 10 correctly identifies what I've set down there. It also scans my face likely as fraud protection, but likely keeps it in a gay little file on their servers.
>>
>>22002290
Yes
It’s fucking annoying
Also, the stores that offer self-checkout with the long belts spaz out about the weight everything you put a product on it.
I’ve started using the cashiers again unless it’s actually just a couple of items. It’s kinda nice
>>
>>22002293
Not reading beyond the first two words. Suck my dick.
>>
skill issue
>>
Rule of thumb is if you have more than 3 or 4 items just go to the human checkout, ESPECIALLY if you have booze or anything of that nature, otherwise enjoy standing there for 45 minutes looking for a zoomer to authorize the transaction while they type your personal details into their spyware system
>>
Don't they have some "I don't want to bag this item" thingy to tap on the filthy, shit-encrusted touchscreens?
Just tap that and bag in your trolley, ya dingus.
>>
>>22002300
Grandpa, thats some strange head canon you're telling. They have PDAs that can authorize it remotely if you look old enough.
>>
>>22002310
you have clearly never used self checkout and rely entirely on mommy to buy tendies for you
>>
>>22002311
>PDA
And you're calling me the grandpa, lmao. Let me guess you still call them "smart phones" too?
>>
>>22002312
I rarely use self checkout and I haven't had "tendies" in over twenty years kiddo. Might have been as far back as the 90s. Y'know. Before you were born.
Nonetheless, the few times I've used it, there was absolutely an option for "I don't want to bag this item" as well as one for "I removed an item or bag" if you take something out of the bagging area. Maybe it's only certain chains that have it. I don't know. I just use the normal, human-run tills.
>>
>>22002327
>>22002310
This. How the fuck else After you supposed to get 50lb bags of dog food or cases of whatever? Just click "skip bagging", you fucking retards.

Mad.

>retards go into the express checkout (10 items or fewer) area with a full cart
>"REEEEEEEEEEE THERE'S NO ROOM TO BAG MY CART FULL OF FROZEN FOOD THIS IS THE STORE'S FAULT I'LL SEE YOU IN COURT"
this is what an average American education gets you
>>
>>22002340
There’s one regular manned check out and there’s 3 old cunts in line there with full sized carts of food AND they’re all using coupons. I’m not waiting there with my mini cart of food.

THIS x1000
God I though I was the only one having to play tetris with the checkout tray and my shopping cart for bag space.
>>
You can take the bags off it and put them into your cart.
>>
>>22002348
No. You can’t.
>>
>>22002349
I guess it depends on the store, but both Walmart and Kroger here will let you. You can even scan things without taking them out of your cart which is nice for bulky items.
>>
>>22002293
I have no idea what youre talking about with anything you said

That you never noticed the "I don't want to bag this item" thingy? Yeah. You sure are.
>>22002334
>>22002351
Exactly.
>>22002349
Like the other two guys said, how are you expected to put a 50lb dog food bag on a walled scale the size of a dinner plate and put your additional purchases on top of it? There's got to be some "I don't want to bag this item" option. OP's whole premise is imaginary. It's a non-issue. Or, in OP's case, a naan-issue.
>>
>>22002310
>>22002334
>>22002383
Even in the low crime suburb I’m in, doing that more than once triggers the fucking observer to come over and put a code in to confirm you’re not stealing
>>
>>22002378
>>22002356
No, he's right. I shop at a different store and the few times I've used self checkout, the screens actively display a feed of the cameras (there are multiple) scanning both your face and the contents of your trolley. One even stopped me from tapping "finish and pay" for about a minute because it detected my gym bag in the trolley and asked if I was sure I scanned everything, displaying the feed of the trolley and my unscanned bag. After that minute passed, it let me tap "yes" and proceed to pay and GTFO.
I've also seen stores where cameras at the entrance scan faces as shoppers enter. In fact, a friend of mine, a security guard at a supermarket, told me that he caught a guy as he was coming in yesterday because the cameras flagged him as [insert name here] (yes, he told me the guy's name) who was already banned from the store for minor theft in the past (chicken drumsticks down his pants and a stick of deodorant in his pocket).
The guy said "I didn't know I was banned" and my buddy was like yeah, nah, leave or management will press charges for trespassing.
They absolutely do use AI and facial recognition these days.
>>
>>22002290
Self-check-out = 10 items or less
Anything else = scanners or cashiers
>>
>>22002340

The space pictured can be taken up easily by one gallon of milk. How many items is that?

what the fuck is wrong with you retards, you bag it and put it back in the cart. nobody ever hassles me about it and the clerk only gets called over if the machine thinks i missed scanning something (like if i scan one item twice then put the other identical item straight into the bag from the cart)
don't tell me you people shop like EBT urbanites and drag three heaping-full carts around the store
>>22002327
imagine being slower checking yourself out than the stoned teenagers manning the cash registers
maybe nobody gives a shit what you're doing all day, but people who matter have shit to do and Yolanda isn't getting me out of the store faster than I get myself out
>>22002340
those are not the express checkouts, anon, the normal self-checkouts all look like that at Walmart
>>22002349
the only place i know of that does this is a very small regional grocer which added self-checkouts as an express-only option. their system spergs out completely if you take anything off the scale-platform next to the scanner so I just don't use them there unless I only have a basket
>>22002380
better make it a rubber obama mask, your bone structure is unique and AI absolutely can identify you, especially from as close as the self-checkout cam

also don't forget that your thefts absolutely will be tallied across time and Walmart et all will wait til you've stolen enough to cross the threshold for a serious theft charge and then have you arrested once you've taken enough rope to hang yourself
if you're going to be black about it, at least be a smart little pickaninny and tabulate your thieving so you don't steal more than the limit for larceny from one retail chain in a year.

They would prefer you not have enough items to make space an issue. Also some union stores will enforce 10 items or less policies to comply with the UFCW's demand to protect cashier hours. Nevermind that there are hardly any cashiers at all.

>those are not the express checkouts, anon, the normal self-checkouts all look like that at Walmart
no they aren't you stupid fucking retard. that's the express area that was EXPRESSLY made for people with a handful of items. you want to checkout a shopping cart of items? go to the lanes with the dedicated wagies. holy shit why is this so hard to convey?

self checkout is for small and little items.

it does not and you fucking know it.

there is no problem.
>>
>>22002787
The problem is there’s not enough room to bag anything at the self check out.
>>
>>22002766
Either the store is economizing their personnel hours due to lack of holiday or festivities, they can't or won't hire more people due to low budget, they're not training more cashiers because nobody wants to be a cashier (because customers treat them like shit), or the other scheduled cashiers called off en masse (it happens). Also managers can't order someone to open a check stand if they haven't received cashier training. No employee can be forced to be a cashier and anybody can intentionally fail the assessments if cashier training is compulsory.
>>
>>22002805
Ok. So I have to use the self checkout. There’s not enough room to bag my groceries at the self checkout.

That means food has power. Celebrate the good and reject the bad. Leave nothing for the dinks.

Meijer has an option of using your phone to ring up items as soon as you put them in your cart. Checkout is just you paying the balance due. But you have to sign up to use it so they have the ability to track you down if they find out you've been cheating.

granted, flyover shithole, still largely white

i go through the manned lanes at the regional grocery chain which i do the majority of my purchasing at because they have a practice of opening checkout lanes to meet demand on very short notice. the self checkouts there do have a weight alarm, but they are very clearly marked for express use.

at Walmarts and other national retailers in my area, the self checkouts are that size, are not marked for express use and do not have a weight alarm that's triggered.

you may live in a more crime ridden shithole than i do, which is probably the case if you get an alarm when you remove a bag from the bagging area

/fa/ and /adv/ are terrible. The mods are very also very trigger happy with the ban button, they will ban you just for disliking your posts, so I stopped using them. /ck/ imo is one of the funniest boards and I know this has been discussed before but as far as successful "well adjusted" people on 4chan go this one of the better boards. I'm not American so never browsed /k/ much.
>>
>>22002548
>what the fuck is wrong with you retards, you bag it and put it back in the cart. nobody ever hassles me about it and the clerk only gets called over if the machine thinks i missed scanning something
This is store dependent. Most self checkouts will shriek and wail if you do that.
>>
>>22004047
/ck/ is pretty ban-happy too relative to a lot of boards, but the community stupidity is more old school, early 4chan "being retarded to be funny" stupidity, /fa/ and /k/ are aggressive stupidity and weirdly angry all the time. I've definitely gotten bans here just because a janny didn't agree with me, but you can post a thread and mostly discuss food. on /k/ every thread ends up getting turned into an irrelevant shitposting party bitching about india/iran/china/brown people, /fa/ is mostly neckbeards trying to larp as sophisticated old money aristocrats and schizos fighting over grudges they've forgotten about but they can somehow identify each other by posting style alone and they will fight ALL DAY about the most obscure board meta-drama. you haven't seen permanently online until you've tried to make sense of a /fa/ watch thread
>>
>>22003995

>>
>>22004055
>/ck/ too is pretty ban heavy
Maybe it's because I've been on here for a bit but I can't remember the last time I got banned. I suppose learning to "understand" note not "respect" board culture helps a lot to avoid the ban hammer. /fa/ would ban me for writing "gibberish" low quality posts just because I didn't fit in with the weirdos on there. I think I made a thread about where to get skate brand skinny jeans since most brands in the last few years don't make super skinny ones any longer and it ticked off the mods for some arbitrary reason, almost like they're allergic to actual serious fashion threads. I also speculate if mods/jannies notice you're a regular from your IP address/writing style they'll leave you alone but if you go to a new board they'll be very happy to ban you for no reason whatsoever.
>this board is more "retarded to be funny"
Myeah, I tend to look for boards like this. The boards with higher % of Millennials tend to be like this and the more zoomer/female populated ones can be pure cancer. /int/ is another shitty one for me because I come from a very small country so it's easy for people to single me out in other threads if I "PWNED" them in an argument earlier that day. I also learned to stop using the word "sandnigger" in my posts after getting my umpteenth racism ban lol I also heard there used to be a mod on here a few years ago that would remove EVERY thread criticizing/making fun of Asian cuisine roflmao

> Aldi
Must depend on the region, it’s definitely the best prices on meats and grass fed meats. Sometimes Kroger beats them with BOGO chicken sales but in general their base price is lowest in my area.
Especially for cheese too
Their off brand stuff is sometimes shitty though

>it’s definitely the best prices on meats and grass fed meats
It absolutely is not. There's no reason to go there nowadays except for their frozen corn and frozen mixed veg.
I just got 4,25ish lbs of pork chops for under $1.50 by combining a sale ($1.99/lb) with a coupon ($7 off any meat purchase). Aldi doesn't do coupons. I also got 5+ lbs of ground beef for $15.45 ($2.99/lb). It's over $4/lb at Aldi. Chicken breast is on sale for $1.97 but it's $2.19 at Aldi. Lamb is more expensive there, too. All hail Safeway.

I remember when the store I worked at had a bird infestation and customers were too dumb to care. Product cases and refrigerated products displayed were covered in bird shit. People still bought it. Always buy off the shelf, by the way.

Yeah the janny is really thin skinned about asia stuff. In a wine thread a while back /ck/ was incredulous that south-east asia could be a relevant wine market, I posted picrel reminding them that certain south-east asians know enough about wine to run circles around westoid "experts", BOOM insta-ban because I used a spicy word

I think it might be a western-born asian who grew up getting bullied by whites and has unresolved trauma over that. There used to be a corny web comic that got posed regularly, on the topic of filipino food getting popular, and it would never stay up for more than a couple of hours because it touched a raw nerve with someone

Anyway I guess I'll be taking a vacation from /ck/ soon, see you in a week or so

Anon this is the big 26. There are no more lanes with dedicated wagies. Most Walmarts are self checkout only except for the customer service counter where you can buy cigarettes and lottery but they won't scan your groceries there. Welcome to hell.

How do you judge the quality of a coffeeshop, /ck/? What makes you keep coming back and what are things they have to do to win your patronage?

>And you're calling me the grandpa, lmao. Let me guess you still call them "smart phones" too?
Well its not a smart phone they use, its a special electronic tool specific to that job. What would you call it?
>>
>>22005188
I don't know which tool you mean. Scanner? Card reader? Tablet? PDAs were a specific kind of device from a specific era. An electronic version of the "Day Runner" paper organizer.
>>
>>22005215
Okay, so you'll intentionally misunderstand what I said, then pretend "PDA" doesn't mean exactly 1 of 2 things to generally describe something to 99.99% of people.

You're so clever, and you'll get a lot of positive karma on this website using that tactic.
>>
>>22005240
Grandpa, 99.99% of people think "PDA" means two people being inappropriately intimate in front of others. Yes, there is another definition in the dictionary referring to a specific kind of consumer product that existed in a specific point in history but that isn't meaningful to the vast majority of humans who were not white collar gen X with a passing interest in consumer electronics. It's a tablet or a scanner, those are the words you're looking for. You're welcome.
