How do you judge the quality of a coffeeshop, /ck/? What makes you keep coming back and what are things they have to do to win your patronage?

Comfy chairs, not tjmaxx level decor, drip coffee out from behind the counter with unlimited or 1$ refills, legible menu of classics, confine the megasugar dumps to seasonal specials, some amount of plants and local products that I will never buy but are nice to look at. Not overdoing it with your merch. Anything behind a hat, sticker, and tote is weird. You never see anyone buy them and it comes off self aggrandizing. Having a flow to the line so i'm not in people's way waiting to order or to get my drink. Having a focus to your pastries is good too. The best spots do only Brazilian or German or whatever pastries and don't offer dozens of varieties so it takes forever to find what's good. My favorite was a bookstore in the front and coffee in the back. Unlimited drip coffee for like 3$ and these big leather chairs infront of a hearth. They just put a TV in there but still the effect was nice. Got bought out a few years ago and the new owners moved the drip cannisters behind the counter and redid the seating to small metal chairs at tables. I asked if they still did unlimited refills and the new owner goes " you have to pay for your coffee." Never went back again.I just want a nice place to read my book for an hour or two but they want money in and bodies out quickly.
