Because being an alcoholic is boring when you're drinking alone at home and not doing anything. Reading is too hard when druk, movies are too hard to pay attention to and I hate forgetting everything about a movie I watched. Shitposting is fun but it gets old fast when druk and I'm much much more likely to get banned when drul posting. Vidya scratches the do something while drunk itch perfectly. Especially single player retro games. There's a sweet spot of intoxication where you paradoxically get better at gaming because you take more risks and play faster and looser than you would sober. I've beaten so many "hard" games like NES Castlevania, the DKC trilogy, some Mega Mans, Souls games, etc. I don't remember much about finishing them but I did.
