Is the "net carbs" thing real or it doesn't make shit difference?
>>
>>22011911
When I did the atkins diet back in the day (which worked but sucked), using net carbs was always almost a guarantee I'd knock myself out of ketosis and completely ruin the point.

all you need to care about is calories

i think the net carbs meme is because they didn't want people eating less fiber when they restrict carbs.

But if it worked does it means you were kept on ketosis or does that means ketosis was not needed? Because Atkins food is all just fat and fiber.
>>
>>22012106
It means I got onto ketosis, was eating absurd amount of calories, drank hard alcohol, and managed to lose like 15-20 lbs in a month or two.

But when I was introduced to "Atkins," it was just "keep under 20 carbs, do anything else you want."

It's used in two different ways where one makes sense and one is misleading.

>total carb content is 30g
>includes 10g fiber
>so only 20g net carbs from starch/sugar
This one makes sense because fiber isn't adding calories or affecting blood sugar.

>starch/sugar content is 20g
>but extra fiber is added so it has 18g fiber too
>package says it only has 2g net carbs despite having just as much starch and sugar as the previous example at 20g net carbs
This one is just misleading. You want to subtract fiber from the total carb content to really get how much starch/sugar is in something but a gram of fiber doesn't just cancel out a gram of starch and sugar like that.

Some low net carb foods use "modified resistant starch" which is just starch that was processed to be less digestible, but some people say it still affects their blood sugar so it does get digested eventually for some people unlike most fiber.

I don't know, it's all too complicated.
