Do distributors have different standards and practices for areas and stores?I eat a lot of ground turkey. It's a reliable and cheaper alternative to ground beef that is easier on the heart. Particularly Jennie-O. For the past year I've been shopping at a Target. It's not a very choice for groceries, but it was directly across the street from me. The ground turkey would typically leech tons of water into the pan. Probably around 20% of its weight. I assumed it was standard because poultry has been pumped with water for decades.I just moved to a slightly more affluent area and shopped at a Kroger last night. The ground turkey I purchased is noticeably firmer and when pan frying there isn't even half as much water in the pan.Is Jennie-O cutting product for a shitty area, or are they assuming Target customers won't notice? Why is there such an extreme disparity?
No, these come in cases packaged by Jennie-O and branded accordingly and should be the same. More than likely it was altered when stacked by the distribution center or handled and unpacked from the case by store personnel. Also, did you notice if the hermetic seal had been compromised? The rolls sometimes arrive popped for example.

>>22014022It could just be due to freshness. But I have noticed a quality difference with the same brand at different stores too. I bought the same brand of plantain chips from Walmart and Costco, the one from Walmart had more broken and hard chips.

The reason you're having the issue that you are is because from one place that you're buying this product, it was previously frozen, breaking down the cellular matrix and releasing the moisture inside. The turkey from the other place was just sitting on the shelf after it had been shipped from the processor.

>>22014022Ive had jennie-o befire and noticed the same. And, no its not normal for ground meat to have as much water content as jennie-o does. Your best bet is probably finding a dfferent source for your ground meat
