Not sure if this post belongs here, but I looked at the homepage and saw no board that came closer so I'll post this here.
I recently went shopping for a new refrigerator and was shocked to see that about 95% of them are the types with freezers on the bottom. Personally, I think these are stupid. Why would you want to bend over to access your freezer? So please, reply with thread with
>your country
>are top freezer or bottom freezers more popular where you are?
>which style do you prefer?
>>
>>22017393
why does what country other people live in and what's popular there have any bearing on what you personally choose to buy?
>>
Pretty sure it's an energy efficiency standard?
>>
Bottom freezers have been the industry standard in the US for like 20 years. How are you just discovering that fact?
>>
bottom freezers became more popular due to inherent efficiencies
plus french doors are in style and allow for further gimmicks that can be upsold

It's a chest style freezer, which is more energy efficient than a front loader and you lose less cold air.

>stay with parents for a few weeks.
>they have a bottom freezer with a drawer on top where they put the ice bag
>they just grab big ass handfuls and let the rest fall into the bottom compartment
>freezer is packed full and it's half ice
Nah, I'll take my old GE side by side. Fuck your energy.

>Why would you want to bend over
What are knees? Are you by any chance too fat?
>>
>>22017397
That's the thing. A technician explained to me that all the cooling happens in the freezer and that the fridge gets cold by basically opening a valve in the back to allow cold air from the freezer into the fridge until it reaches the desired temperature. So there's no advantage to having the colder freezer air in the bottom from what I can tell. If anything, wouldn't you want the colder denser air on top, so it sinks more easily?

Tin foil hat time. I find it surprising that the bottom freezers are more common at stores. I think that Americans are buying up all the top freezers and the Canadian market is sent the overflow of bottom freezers, with the retailers raking in huge markups.

I hardly ever use the freezer so I find them preferable. More fridge space for fresh ingredients. But if you eat like shit and subside on frozen slop then you do you.

Extra-American Western countries do tend toward the woker and are full-on, kool-aid-drinking climatists, so it makes sense that they would push bottoms as being more energy efficient, as they're popularly believed to be--not even give consumers the choice.

They're for bottoms! Ah ah ah
>>
Buy a full freezer. One of the best things you can buy yourself.
>>
The bottom part always gets caught on the icemaker too it's retarded. But the skinny freezers in the side of the fridge are too hard to use it's like playing tetris. The ones above the fridge are too small. The only way to win is to have a garage freezer. I miss living at home
>>
>>22017735
I like having the top freezer+chest freezer. I keep things that are open in the top freezer, like frozen vegetables/fruit, meal prep food i froze, etc. everything else goes in the chest freezer
I’m sorry you miss home!
>>
>>22017660
No, don't blame this on "climatism". Most homes come with a refrigerator and people just take what comes with the home. When the contractor is picking appliances, he's just going to pick what is out there, which happens to be the bottom freezers up here.

Side by sides are better than bottom freezers but top freezers are superior.

Correct. And why are there nothing but bottoms in Canada? Read the ending of this post: >>22017660, itself a reply to a tinfoil hat theory.

>>
>>22017729
This. But dont get a huge chest freezer unless you need tons of space. You end up just losing shit in it. Best to get a locking stand up.
>>
>>22018186
Chest freezers take up more space at that, what even is the benefit of one?
>>
fuck off fridge market researcher
>>
The crisper drawer used to be mainly for turning produce into moldy puddles of slime because people didn't like bending down that far to get things that already weren't on the top of their list of what they wanted to eat (veggies). Moving the produce drawer up above the freezer makes it easier to access and in a better viewing location. Stuff in the freezer keeps far longer so being a bit more difficult to get or see isn't as big of a deal.
French doors are good for easily moving larger items in and out of the fridge. It also lets the fridge go into spaces where a tradition door wouldn't be able to fully swing open. Before French doors became popular, you'd have to get those stupid side-by-side units that were too narrow for many uses.
>>
design a fridge that doesn't plug up the water dispenser line with weird filter sediment shit after couple years of use you wont do it
>>
>>22018399
You saying is a good thing I have a pre filter water dispenser fridge? Even though it means I just drink tap water?
