>mince onion on a wooden cutting board>thoroughly scrub and dry it>next day>slice apple on same cutting board>apple tastes like an onionhow the fuck do you prevent this other than buying 5 cutting boards
I have a plastic cutting board that I use just for onions. The onion board. The board for onions.
>>22018516Do you use dish soap or just water? I scrub my thin cheap bamboo cutting board with dish soap and a brush after every use and I've never had onion or garlic or chili pepper or any other strong flavors linger on the board.
>>22018520may have to do this I guess I just hate using plastic with food>>22018526I scrub the shit out of it with dawn dish soap. I'm going to try using powerwash this time. since it's alcohol based maybe it'll have effect on the sulfur compounds or something.
>>22018516I've experienced that too. Wood is porous and will soak up some onion juice. Regularly applying a little oil to a wooden cutting board can help seal it and might prevent it from happening but I don't think too many people want to bother with doing that.
Maybe leave some baking soda on the board, that’s good at absorbing odors
>>22018516>throw apple up>chop it mid air and catch the slices with a platewa la
>>22018624That's odd. I use lemon Dawn or Joy dish soap and I've never encountered any lingering flavors or smells on my cheapo bamboo board that I've used everyday for around a decade. I refuse to use plastic cutting boards because they contaminate food with micro plastics from cutting them. I get enough micro plastics from daily life, I don't need to cut plastic into the food I'm preparing.
>>22018516You just eat the apple, who the fuck cuts an apple up on a cutting board?
>>22018516>Has an item dedicated to cutting food>upset that it smells like food
>>22018516Flip the board over when you cut smelly things. But you should have multiple boards anyway, at least one different one for raw meat.
>>22018645>mental illness - le postthat's not how micro plastics get into your body.
>>22018516>laughs in natural stone countertops
>>22018663>laughs in dull knife
>>22018655It's one way. Not the main way but cutting food on a plastic board certainly puts micro plastics in your food.
>>22018668>chuckles in sharpening stone
>>22018670You sound like a pussy
>>22018680>crys in cutting myself using a whetstone Shits impossible to use. I use a pull through sharpener and a honing rod now. Got sick of cutting myself every single time I used my wedstone.
>>22018516>pour a pretty large amount of food grade mineral oil on your wooden cutting board>spread it all around so that the surface is entirely covered>leave it for 12-24 hours so it can be absorbed by the wood (you can keep it in a plastic bag to not make a mess in your kitchen)>remove the excess oil with paper towels until it's dry to the touchnow you basically have a waterproof cutting board that doesn't stain or absorb odors.when it's dirty, quickly wash it under running water with a bit of soap and carefully dry it. Apply a bit of oil every once in a while.
>>22018683you sound like a bitch
>>22018652>Flip the board over when you cut smelly things. This>at least one different one for raw meat.Cleaning it with soap with is fine, stop with the hysterics.>>22018670The water and food already saturate you with microplastics, whatever you might get from a plastic board is insignificant. But I can understand not being happy about using a plastic cutting board.
>>22018684Skull issue
>>22018516What kind of limp-wristed faggot needs a cutting board to slice an apple?
>>22018804>stop with the hysterics.that's kind of an extreme reaction to someone just saying they have a second cutting board for meat
>>22018837May be, but these is a certain overreaction about the danger posed by raw meat and cross contamination. When, in reality, as long as you wash it between uses, there is no danger
>>22018646No you're right there's never an instance where you'd need to slice apples. Apple pie? Just chuck the whole thing right into a pie tin, core and all. Be a man!
Keep a spray bottle with diluted vinegar for cleaning. Good for cutting boards. If you’re hardcore then just rock straight vinegar. I usually use a pretty strong mix. Something like 75:25 vinegar:water.
that's why you have a board for fruit and a board for everything else
>>22018652das rite. you gotta flip that frown upside down
>>22018684Excuse me for I'm very slow. How are you cutting yourself with a whetstone?
>>22018744How does one "carefully" dry a cutting board?
>>22019161wipe it with a towel, even multiple times, until it's no more wet?
>>22019167But like, that's the only goal. What's careful about that?
>>22019159On the blade as I'm dragging it. I don't know how to hold the knife right and I always end up kicking my finger tips.
>>22018516buy 2 boards
>>22018516>apple tastes like an onionno it doesn't.
>>22018516>how the fuck do you preventvinegar.
>>22019338you hold it without the edge of the blade near your fingertips.you don't press hard.you don't get your hands oily.
>>22018516stop eating food.
put a paper towel under the onion before slicing it
>>22018890*twists your boynipples* Man up sissy.
>>22018890>Not slicing the apples on the pie crust
>>22018645If you wear synthetic fibers or have a carpet or use any synthetic fiber bedding or towels or anything in your home or car or at work then it's too late - you're already full of microplastics.A cutting board which you can clean whenever you want probably isn't going to be a significant source.
