Got a tub of herring in oil like picrel. What do you do with these things? Are they meant to be eaten straight like deenz, or are you supposed to cook them? If they're meant to be used in other dishes, what kind of recipes are they meant for?
>>22021231Had the same issue earlier and all I was told is to have it with vodka, so I just ate it out of the tub and made my relatives angry at the smell.
>>22021236Grim. I know traditional northern European food isn't great, but that just sounds depressing.Do you think it would be better on a slice of brown bread with a piece of onion and some franks red hot sauce?
>>22021231Mix it with egg and potato and chili oil for a good breakfast. Or put it on some sourdough with mustard and onion. Or on a bagel with cream cheese. Idk dude figure it out
>>22021231Rollmops, Salat or just put them in a bread roll
>>22021231Here is Jamie Oliveoil's recipe for a "Mediterranean-Style Herring Linguine"Pucker!https://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/pasta/mediterranean-style-herring-linguine/
>>22021231make cock gun sushi
>>22021231make yourself a sandwich with herring, onions, pickles and mustard/mayo/tartare sauce
>>22021266Using Nordic ingredients in Med dishes seems inappropriate. Who is this Jamie Oliveoil guy?
>>22021254>RollmopsAm I understanding rollmops correctly? You just wrap it around a pickle and wa la?
>>22021243I think with some butter and salt it would be good yeah, the saltiness should help with its natural sourness.
>>22021302>natural sourness The fish is sour? I was thinking a squirt of lemon juice to compliment what I assumed would be the fishs natural saltiness. Why the fuck is the fish sour all on its own? That's not natural.
Herring is inedible without onions and pickles, huh
>>22021309What kind of pickles? Polish ogórki? Garlic? Dill? Sweet & sour? Bread & butter?
>>22021231I like them straight as an appetizer with beer and maybe some celery sticks.Rollmops and on a hard roll are both traditional.>>22021307That's pickled herring anon. It's sweet-sour. You want a little bitter/astringent with it.
>>22021316I just checked and the stuff I have is the exact same product as the pic in OP. Is that the sour and pickled stuff?
>>22021309No, onions and pickles are just really good. Fried herring is good, smoked, pickled, roasted. It's a pretty versatile fish
>>22021297Yes
>>22021362OK I think I'm wrong and it looks like those in OP's pic are in oil, not pickled
>>22021527They're still pickled, but stored in oil instead of their regular brine. It's like selling deenz in oil instead of tomato sauce, they're still the same pressure-cooked deenz.
>>22021231>>22021236Even niggers cook their food. What the fuck is wrong with you? Are you worse than niggers?
>>22021721Herring like that is sold cooked and ready to eat. Like canned fish.
>>22021231>in oilthat's fucked up
Just tried deenz for the first time. I get why /ck/ loves them now. Idk what the fuck I was doing with my life before.
