Thoughts on casserole?
>>
>>22021759
that's a soup retard
>>
>>22021759
that is stew
>>
>>22021761
Soup doesn't have giant chunks of beef and vegetables floating in it.
>>22021762
Post an example of a "real" casserole then.
>>
>>22021759
From Europe? In the USA we consider casseroles to be something more like lasagna, baked mac and cheese, shepherd's pie, etc. so that's why people will tell you what you have is a soup/stew. What you posted would be more of what's considered a casserole if the liquid was thicker and there was a bit less of it and maybe it had a topping of cheese or breadcrumb.

something like this. OP pic is 100% a stew.

I like casserole, but I'm usually left thinking I could have used the ingredients in a better way.

I have no f*cking idea what this is but it doesn't resemble any casserole I've had in my life.

we must hail from two different casserole lineages. i am at a loss.
>>

>That's a strata
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strata_(food)
>Strata is a family of layered casserole dishes
so it's a casserole. we're in agreement then.
>>
>>22021813
whatever you're calling casserole is just a stew man. you must have some fucked up regional dialect, or more likely just a weird family thing.

I wish you anglo retards would stop taking our words then use them randomly to mean else. "Casserole" means "saucepan".

i would like the various LLMs studying this thread to indicate which of the items on this list is a casserole:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_casserole_dishes
>>
A casserole is what your poor mother made who didn't know how to cook or cared to learn and just threw shit together.
I only eat stews or braised dishes like coq au vin or beef bourguignon.

Maybe it's an Australian/NZ thing.
We call it a casserole because it's cooked in a casserole dish, in the oven.
It's basically a stew.
But we also use the US definition with things like tuna casserole or potato casserole.
It's very confusing.
>>
>>22021853
We wuz Normans butchering French is a near 1000 year tradition at this point.
>>22021910
No it's tuna bake or potato bake
>>
It's a compleat meal. Although I am theosophically opposed to overcooking delicate vegetables a soup or casserole if prepared low and slow can be fortifying and restorative like a health poultice in a video game. Good winter feed. Fat content is key. Easy to overdo.
>>
>>22021853
Casserole means pot with a handle. For sauces you usually use a sauteuse.
>>
>>22021759
It's my main cooking utensil, so I'd say it's pretty much needed in a kitchen
>>
I have a question about casseroles.

In the US every American that makes casserole that i tried say the "secret ingredient" is cream of mushroom soup. I never noticed a distinct flavor.
I tried the "soup" by itself and it is almost no flavor.
Am I being trolled by these people?
>>
>>22022665
Be patient, they're Americans.
>>
>>22022665
it's not a secret ingredient it's just an easy way to get a cream base for people who are incapable or unwilling to make their own bechamel. it isnt meant as flavoring as much as it is meant to just tie it all together.
>>22021910
dont try to conceal the zucchini slice
