Why is this thing so well regarded in the culinary world?
Is it worth it?
What's a good way to try it, and in what dish?

oil your bread with good evoo, heavily season with zaatar (like in your pic) and spread some labneh on top. it's great. the only other way I've used it is in a yogurt based marinade for chicken.

It's a pleasant mix of herbal, nutty, and sour. Great with eggs, cream cheese, roasted veg, fish, and chicken.

i hate food photography so damn much. you know they spent an hour arranging every head of garlic and lemon slice and chicken piece. then you make it and it just looks like a pan full of slop.

unironically sumac sucks and the sesame seeds make the texture weird.
better off using just oregano and majoram

It's accessibly delicious, not crazy expensive, and unless you're middle eastern you probably didn't eat it growing up, so it's novel to you. It's sort of like "what's the deal with (east) Asians and cheescake?"
