wagies of /ck/ how do you do your job without wanting to murder every boomer in your nearest vicinity
>>
>>22026242
I've worked at a walmart and a dominos and everyone was actually really nice I don't even have a single story I can recall of customers crashing out or anything.
>>
>>22026250
sounds like you worked in a white high trust neighborhood
>>
restaurants
>vegans, gluten free
>karens
>blacks
bars
>drunk people
retail
>karens
>blacks
call centers
>karens
>blacks

waging made me more mysogynistic and racist than social media ever could
>>
>>22026252
The area demographics are like 30% white 50% hispanic 20% islanders. It is definitely not a high trust area, you can't even leave your garbage cans out at night without a homeless person digging through them to steal garbage bags and making a mess.

It might be because I'm huge and naturally angry-looking.
>>
>>22026260
it's probably also because you're not mentally ill and completely mindbroken by /pol/rot. those people can be surrounded by nice customers all day and they'll seethe constantly anyway.
>>
>>22026242
at 20-22 i worked at a grocery store called meijer. i paid off all my student debts and quit. hands down the worst couple years of my entire life. i almost killed myself several times and would go to bed every night thinking about how people would feel if I did. I didnt do it because of family.

anyway, worst customer I had was some retard hick moron who wanted to start a fight. manlet, prob 5'2, mid 50s. came up to me and picked a fight asking who i voted for, trying to ascribe his opposing politics to me (i didnt care or know anything). basically let him blog about how hes a rich wheat farmer for 30 mins til my boss came and told him to fuck off.
>>
>>22026242
I steal alcohol from work and get drunk while I'm on the line.
>>
>>22026276
>wants to kill himself after being verbally cucked
Many such cases.
>>
>>22026277
yknow if you made friends with servers/bartender theud just give you shift drinks
>>
>>22026242
working in grocery stores are unironically pretty great if you stick around long enough to become everyone's friend. then nobody gives a shit. we would get drunk in the parking lot all the time then go in and slam out whatever we had left. smoke breaks whenever we want. huge discounts and marking down whatever you want with the price gun. it was pretty fun.
>>
>>22026306
Why? We dont have liquor, I steal beer from the storage and put it in my station, get to drink as much as I want and ignore foh.
>>
>>22026315
ah. depends on how you look at it i guess. i like having an alibi, someone who can cover my tracks and have my back. give you a heads up when the shift lead is getting wise or the GM will be in that day.
on the other hand, you might consider that more a liability

also i didnt specify liquor, i dont see why beer couldnt equally fit too
>>
>>22026315
also, nobody thinks twice if a server is transporting an alcoholic beverage. they can also bring it to you in a to go cup, concealed.

whereas you have to be aware whos around you when you crack it, even if you do pour it in an unmarked cup also
>>
>>22026276
>a grocery store called meijer
i hope you have since left the midwest and became sane.

The trick is just knowing most of them are straight up retarded. Universally they're so incomprehensibly stupid to the most basic things. I watch customers jam their fingers onto touch screens instead of lightly tapping, slapping their touch credit cards repeatedly against my card readers, assume they were charged because they ran their card before the machine was even active, demand free items because of unrelated minor inconveniences like not enough napkins or it's raining outside.

I've had someone threaten me before because the cans of Arizona tea went up by 10 cents and the labels at the time were the previous price. Siting that she can get me for a 500 dollar bounty for every single mispriced label on the door which is factually untrue if she never purchased the items to begin with. Standing there screaming at me with most of her teeth missing, the remaining being brown, whilst in my store with no shoes and several needle marks on her arms.

Back during the days of BLM I wasn't exactly an active supporter of the cause but I, at the time, if it was ever brought up would pretend to be a full on ally just to keep conversations short, tempers good and get things moving. Except I stopped with that retarded shit when a black man who brought it up, whom I expressed alliance with, instead started questioning me on who would win; a nigger or a honkey with this sharp look in his eyes. I knew in seconds that he was threatening me (being the superior color) and was trying to rally the other customers and a coworker to attack me. It failed and our other black coworker talked him down and to leave.

Daily I get asked if our food contains pork or is "Halal" which after a while gets annoying. I give them the honest answers and they either still purchase the food and complain later or don't purchase it and whine as they leave.

You can't please everyone, so you go into retail knowing you're there for yourself and your money. Nothing else.
>>
I'm comfortable enough to say "that's not funny" and continue working. They usually half laugh and lie about "oh i was at a register for 30 years" no, you weren't, because you said the annoying thing.
>>
It's really not that bad. If the worst part about your job is corny jokes you've got it pretty good. I worked retail for 6 years at many different stores and the only two really bad things i can even remember was a black guy getting very very angry and screaming and threatening me because i had said "i don't know man" and that was bad apparently because he was "not my man" and a white dude chimping out like fucking crazy and smashing the card reader because he was convinced a girl had given him the wrong change. Most people were either nice, didn't care, or were just moderately abrasive in a way I'd never think about again after the day was over.

infetterence
>>
>>22026934
I used to get that when I worked in IT, the same IT Crowd jokes about turning it on and off again, I'd always humor them because they're just trying to lighten the mood.

>IT Crowd legit sucks ass, desu.
>>
>>22027003
While I think they genuinely need their things fixed, my customers genuinely expect to get free stuff "because that other store lets me". Go to that other store then, I'm not losing my job because you're a lying sack of shit.
>>
>>22027007
This was very common. Same with people complaining about corporate policies and rules as if i can do fuck all about it. Once asked a very rude woman if she thought I was Mr. Walgreens or something and she just stared at me like a fish.
>>
>>22026934
You sound insufferable bud
>>
>>22026322
>>22026320
If I liked my job I'd conceal it more or do it the legal shift drink way, but I get paid $17 a hour to make sushi, its kind of an unspoken agreement that BOH gets to get hammered at work, its our only real workplace benefit. Pretty much everyone is a cokehead or on pills as well, its a true degenerate kitchen.
>>
>>22027064
My first job was at an Outback Steakhouse and every single person that worked there was a junkie. They didn't even go to the bathroom they'd do lines off of cutting boards on the prep line and smoke pills by the dumpster. I loved it. At 15 it was like I had entered a world I wasn't previously allowed to be in and just being near it was like a little secret I could keep about doing something naughty. Then I got busted for slinging pills a year later and learned that a couple felonies will really straighten you out

Transferring to a store in a nice neighborhood has done wonders for my stress levels. I still have to deal with dumb people but now it's
>wow that one lady today was really stupid
and not
>HOW THE FUCK DO LIKE 15% OF PEOPLE NOT KNOW HOW TO RUN THEIR OWN CARDS
I also deal with way fewer $100 bills, people of poor quality fucking love breaking hundreds over trivial purchases.
>>
>>22026260
>might be because I'm huge and naturally angry-looking.
I feel you anon, I'm the same way. Can't even be nice to someone without them taking it the wrong way. Rarely have to deal with assholes unless it's a Manley though.
>>
>>22027003
I used to work for a company where I shared the same name as the guy who owned it. So I constantly got "are you Mr X".
Yeah, I'm sitting on the phones talking to you at 7am instead of banging my 20 year old Instagram model girlfriend I divorced my wife for, when I only come into the office once a month with front door parking for my 100k BWM M3. You know, keeps me humble.
>>
>>22026253
Erm, racist and sexist much?
>>
>>22027111
>my 100k BWM M3
Don't forget to mention you live with your parents who signed as guarantors for a car you struggle to make payments for.
>>
>>22027003
nigga, i'd PAY to have people around me make those kind of jokes.
it would mean they'd know how to fix small shit by themselves
>>
>>22026250
I work in a financial office in NYC and we get actual psychopaths. It doesn't matter what nationality. Funny cause the richer people are literally evil. They have this presence.
>>
>>22027119
Blindly rebooting things can sometimes be a terrible idea
>t. someone forgot to commit major asterisk conf changes
>linux host someone thinks is a physical Win install
>some short sighted dev implemented manual requirement to load up services on propriety software, server is rebooted at 3am by helpful automation engineer after updates.
And probably many more I can't think of right now
>>
>>22027134
well, it's a matter of personal workstation vs production server at that point
>>
>>22026242
This is actually funny though.
>>
>>22026930
>touch screens
i'll defend this. every public touchscreen has different deadspots than every other public touchscreen and not to mention the devices themselves are usually laggy as fuck
>>
>>22027184
The touch screen at the gas station by my house fucking sucks but i've noticed if my fingers are cold and wet like if i was just holding a drink that it works wayyy better
>>
>>22027150
>this nigga doesn't just make changes on live servers
ngmi in the IT industry homie
>>
>>22026242
Eh, it's not so bad most of the time. Though the number of people who apparently just never look up at the signs listing which aisle is which is worrying sometimes.
>>
>>22026242
I make this joke every time and the shop person laughs every time, they get a real kick out of it.
>>
>>22027195
oh, i do for small stuff.
reboots tho i have to coordinate with the client
>>
>>22027123
share a story!!
>>
>>22027123
>>22027223
Seconding. I also work in finance and always wondered how things would be if I moved to the big city and actually made what college claimed I could
>>
>>22027081
> breaking hundreds over trivial shit
Some probably need to break it for drug purchasing/selling
>>
Working with the public makes me want to kill myself, i can handle a corny coworker.
I mainly work from home now and that’s really nice

Not a wagie I guess, since I make a salary, but I’m a manager in an industry where the hourly employees are almost all low socioeconomic status, to put it politely. The amount of drama and bullshit that follow these people is insane. And they are constantly trying to cheat the system and not do their job, but they aren’t very smart and think we don’t know what’s up. We had to fire a girl for coming in high on some weird shit last week. Our older boomer employees are actually our best ones.
I cope with it by knowing I don’t go home to whatever hellish personal life these people have.
>>
>>22027267
Or sometimes you're down to your last hundred bucks man. Nobody buys drugs with cash anymore that shit is on cashapp
>>
>>22027274
You'd be wrong.
>>
>>22027286
This is a sting operation you have a hellfire missile rapidly approaching your coordinates
>>
>>22027267
That was my initial thought but then I started seeing these same dudes at the bank pulling out $1k in hundreds meaning that they have access to a card and change services. As far as I can tell it's mostly retards too retarded to use a bank and people of certain hues using $100 bills for machismo bullshit.
>>
>>22027272
Is that dawg Ethan Hakwe?
>>
>>22026242
The boomers in construction are funny as fuck. I get along with all of em pretty good
>>
>>22027299
Some people can't get bank accounts if their credit is too poor lol
But yeah, I was just posing another reason not saying your explanation doesn't happen.
>>
>>22026242
Why are most of you losers in retail? I worked at a steel mill, and the boomers were unapologetically racist and some of the funniest guys I've ever work around. The steel mill used to give out free beer tickets to the worker at the end of the week so you could go to the bar near the mill and get a free beer. but they stopped that after a lot of wives started complaining that their husbands weren't coming home. They'd get plastered then go back to the steel mill and sleep in the locker room.
>>
>>22026242
Malicious compliance, it's not being mean if you're just enforcing posted rules.

>t. someone who got called an Express Nazi
It's not my fault you can't count to 10
>>
>>22026242
only brokies hate boomers
>>
>>22026260
> It might be because I'm huge and naturally angry-looking.
aka you look poor lmao
People always look angry in lower income areas i noticed
>>
>>22026995

Only person I remember really not liking when I worked as a cashier at target is someone I refer to as Capris Sun Lady.
I called her that because she had a handmade satchel and hat made of discarded capris sun pouches.

Biggest reason I recognized her beyond that is she was a malicious couponer. Not just regular coupons, coupons that effectively broke our systems and provided her discounts that were actually less than what the items she "bought" were worth.
She had a habit of picking out anyone she thought was a new employee and would aim for their lines in particular because they had no idea what was going on, and that happened to be me.
I didn't think anything of it at first until my supervisor confronted me about it, and it made me feel used. For a lot of reasons.
The biggest reason she got away with it was because Target had a high turnover rate, so there was always some uninitiated teenager that she could take advantage of. But the ultimate reason her scam worked is because the company itself didn't value its employees enough to have the retention to stop her.
She eventually got formally banned from the store, but the fact is she was taking advantage of me just as much as the management was. None of them were good people.

Fortunately, it's been long enough since then that I'm literally making 7x what I made as a cashier for target. So I kinda thank both her and management for making me realize that I needed to go back to school and complete my degree. But really. Fuck both of them.
