How do you pick a lettuce for different applications? Say I want to make a burger and need some burger leaf lettuce but the store doesn't have that cultivar, they got the other half dozen lettuce breeds though. How do you decide which one to get?

I just use spinach instead

You sound like an invalid helpless child

This is the worst advice I've ever read on /ck/. Eating raw spinach is how you get kidney stones. It's loaded with oxalic acid. It's not even a substitute for burger lettuce. The point of burger leaf lettuce is the crisp texture, spinach has zero crunch factor.

Imagine giving yourself kidney stones just so you can make your burger worse.

I like the taste

Just buy anything. It's only there for the crunch, not the taste

There are over 100 species of lettuce, some of them aren't even crunchy.

There's more to burger lettuce than just crunch, there's the aesthetics too. Iceberg lettuce has good crunch, but pale shreds of 'berg will never can't compete with the presentation of proper burger leaf, with the vibrant green color and frilly trim like a mini skirt. This is just so much sexier.

>Eating raw spinach is how you get kidney stones
This is like saying "eating bread is how you get diabetes."
>>
>>22028844
No, it's like saying "eating <food rich in purines> is how you get gout". It's directly causal. You can have every co-morbidity and contributing factor in the book, but unless you have oxalic acid or uric acid in your blood, you wont get kidney stones or gout.

Even if you're healthy and have a good lifestyle, you should only have these foods in moderation. People on /ck/ are at high risk and should avoid them entirely.

Well first of all, burgers shouldn't have lettuce

Tell that to the King. His signature Whopper sandwich has always had lettuce on it. The Whopper is the instantiation of the Platonic form of a burger.

/ck/ has a surprising amount of skeletons and twinks. also you can avoid kidney stones by just drinking water and pissing
>>
>>22029051
Skinny people can get gout and kidney stones too.
>>
>>22028679
Having a few leafs of spinach on a burger isn't gonna harm you, fatty.

>unless you have oxalic acid or uric acid in your blood
Which is found in many food sources, not just spinach. Do you freak out every time someone eats potatoes or beets too?
>>
>>22028873
Look at newer studies. Leafy greens with purines don't affect uric acid in blood levels nearly as much as meats do

I've started drinking sour cherry juice daily. Apparently it helps expel uric acid. I don't have gout and hopefully this helps me from getting. Plus it's cheap and tasty as a daily juice. Oh and it has melatonin which helps you sleep better
