this morning i made an espresso with my robusta :)
18 in, 50 out. but i forgot to start the timer.
i did get the flow rate which was a little slow at 0.7g/s(actually i guess you can use this + the other parameters to get to... 70 seconds?)
but it resulted in a pretty tasty cup
i was going to take a picture of the crema but i stirred it before taking a picture so i took it of the side instead.
rich, toasty and some sweet notes.
i hope other anons have an espresso as good as mine today :)

what the fuck is the point of cowboy brew? it doesn't taste much. i cook till boiling, almost, dann i put grounds in. i let that brew 5 seconds, 5 minutes i wait and wa la i get coffee.
but it tastes watery desu

Very nice. A really good robusta tastes like liquid dark chocolate. Feels pretty underrated, lemon juice shots have been dominating speciality coffee for so long...
>>
>>22060562
great robusta can be half the price of "equivalent" arabica so i wouldn't be surprised if it gets more popular just because its more affordable
also i have been seeing more "boomer shots" than nordic squirt fests recently.
>>
i think the only thing i actually dislike about the convex basket (and i dont think can be improved )is i never get a clean puck.
its always messy.
whereas a normal basked is perfectly clean knock out 9/10 times
and most of the time i dont need to even knock it, it just falls out on its own when it turn the basket upside down.

Something else is that there’s a lot of talk about getting the flavor notes right, as in getting exactly what it says on the bag and making big efforts to chase that. Just a whole bunch of unnecessary complexity.
I could just ignore it though

Do people bother to vary their coffee according to what they're having for breakfast?

For example, with a savory Taco Bell breakfast, I'd want a sweetened coffee. But if I'm having a doughnut or something, I'd prefer black.
>>
>>22060616
like the price is quite high and idk would a bambino plus be just as good
>>
>>22060641
I would do the opposite honestly. I intentionally avoid drinking coffee with sweets because it will probably ruin it.
>>
>>22060641
I don't drink coffee with food and I don't eat breakfast.
>>
>>22060645
Super automatics do not make the same kind of coffee as semi automatics. You get a jura for convenience and good enough coffee at the press of a button, you get a bambino for autism.

>tasting notes
You get that shit in the cigar community all the time. Now I get that everyone's pallet is different but the base flavor is always going to be tabacco and not fruit or something dumb like that. Just like with coffee the base flavor is always just going to be fucking coffee, and maybe occasionally you'll get the ghost of a memory of something else.

As someone who made an active effort to understand tasting notes, it’s not entirely intuitive. When someone said they tasted berries in their coffee, it took me a while before I understood they didn’t mean berry sweetness but more the sourness or the other flavor components remind them of berries.

It’s also important to remember the people who write tasting notes have consumed enough that the base flavor is more of an afterthought. Someone who tries shrimp for the first time might think it’s quite stinky or fishy, but someone who is used to that funk could comment on the sweetness or relative freshness. So tasting notes do exist, but should be put into context and aren’t something people have to pursue.

>>22060762
I have no idea how you guys have all these side effects like needing to shit or not being hungry or your little heart beating too fast or your teeth becoming yellow. I just drink coffee for the taste and experience.

update on my new springs for my super jolly, THEY WORK!
WOOOO!
i can now actually go to full espresso range, before the burr adjustment stopped at like moka range before making a metal grinding noise.
and the grinding is faster and quieter, i assume the old springs had stiffened unevenly so one side could contract more than the others leading to the top burr being unaligned and causing premature burr touch and only on one side.
but im also retarded so that could be totally wrong and not make any sense.
anyway it works and thats what matters.
well i dont know that works because i haven't made any espresso with it yet as im typing this while waiting for my machine to heat up.
but i did some test grinds and compared it to my hg1 and it looked and felt the same, it did feel slightly different but i chalk that up to differences between flat and conical producing different shaped particles or something.
well i guess ill update again after I've finished making espresso
:)
>>
>>22061931
ok so my first attempt failed which makes this line
>but i did some test grinds and compared it to my hg1 and it looked and felt the same, it did feel slightly different but i chalk that up to differences between flat and conical producing different shaped particles or something.
very funny, i wasn't even fucking close.
i felt a difference because i was WAY off.
i went like 4 whole numbers finer and i could have gone 5.
but 4 was good enough to make a drinkable shot(and its almost 11pm so i didnt want to keep making espresso)
i remember when i first cleaned and used the super jolly that i kinda "got" why people say flat vs cone tastes different.
i was retarded(shocker), my grinder wasn't even fucking close to calibrated(so rare for me i know) so whatever i have been tasting was just way off what i should have been.
anyway, this second brew was noticeably different than my hg1 shots on the same "recipe"(convex, cherry robusta, 18 in 50 out)
sweeter, softer, nuttier.
its still not perfect, ill try again in a day or so and try to get a really gooey shot from the SJ.
sort of hints of honey and greek yoghurt if anyone knows what im talking about.
and who knows maybe ill be able to get what (You) have been telling me about the convex that i was only sort of getting up until now :)
anyway, thanks for reading my blog.

>Drink better coffee. Smoke better cigars.
My guy in not saying that they don't exist I'm just saying it's not what most would expect. Even when smoking my occasional padron I'll only rarely get any kind of chocolate or somethong like that. And even then it's only a very fair ghost of a ghost of a hint of chocolate. Except for the oliva serie G which tastes like dirt.

Yeah I braced too hard, literally tore the muscles covering my small intestines and a bunch of them slipped through so like a bunch of hernias, except they also tore away through the fascia holding them in place so instead of a little bit pushing through I had half of my small intestines on top of my muscles in my midsection. I remember before the first surgery I could look down and see like a bundle of snakes under my skin, and it would pulse and squirm and hurt like a mother fucker.
