In spite of the complaints of bad pricing, middling quality, sketchy claims, or exaggeration of aroma notes, some of the decried/denounced sort of vendors seem to have at least some actually okay products after personally getting some to try. I won some cool tester freebies from MeiLeaf once some time back, and they offered to include anything I'd want to buy in the free shipping. Four teas in total: two are not sold afaik, but the two I bought (on sale) were "Sultan's Quill" (Da Ye Zhong Fengqing) and "Purple Bud" (Yi Sheng Zi Ya). Both genuinely delightful and surprisingly complex. Perhaps these journal note excerpts may sound kind of weird, but I thought I'd share them anyway:>Purple Bud:>Dry leaf has an amazing candy-like stone fruit aroma, closest to peach and reminding me of Starburst chews. Cream; peaches and cream. Subtle floral quality, maybe like osthmanthus but lighter; lilies?>Wet leaf has notes more like a more intense stewed peaches and cream, linen, and honey or perhaps rock sugar.Then also,>Sultan's Quill:>Dry leaf has notes of freshly baked wheat biscuits, tomato vine, charcoal (yet not smoky), and a fairly subtle fruit jam (apricot?) quality.>Wet leaf leans into toasted grains/crackers and biscuits, roasted nuts. Now a more clear apricot jam quality and coffee come out, especially as the aromatic build and infusions to on.Family also gifted me some lapsang souchong from "The Spice & Tea Exchange" months ago. Notes:>Dry leaf smells of sweet smoked wood (pine), light BBQ sauce, sunflower seeds, and subtle bergamot.>Wet leaf experience is similar, but lifts the smoked wood note towards smoky pinecones, maybe reminding me slightly of matches as well.I don't necessarily recommend any of these vendors broadly-speaking, and the price/g is less than ideal, so they wouldn't be my first choice. I'd rather try buying from Quiche, or good old Chawangshop for my tastes. Though, I like all of these teas, and am grateful to have been able to try them.

I've found if you are one of those people who eat food, the taste of what non liquid food you are eating or what's currently in your mouth will affect what the tea tastes like. Sometimes it's best to swallow your hard food first before clearing out your mouth then having a sip of tea.

I've read in a teaDB blog post that was comparing 7542 Dayi productions that 2007 was a crappy year for tea in general. Do you think that 2007 material is best avoided for that reason or is the difference in quality not as noticeable as a tea reviewer might make it out to be? I haven't had a tea produced in 2007 yet.

I googled it and apparently it cuts out middleman or whatever so the tea punches above its price. I was expecting tannic and astringent tea but this was decent.
