homestuck animated pilot announced bros. we are about to get a shit ton more fanart
I have no idea what Homestuck is about
>>3983222without getting into spoilers, 4 kids decide to play a game together but it turns out the game ends the world and transports them into a new one
My beloved tumblrite
Right near where I live lol
How optimistic do we feel about the Viziepop animation? I've tried to keep myself in ignorance about homestuck developments since hiveswap was a disappointment, but what little I've heard against my will seemed very dire.
>>3983475reminder porrim made that sweater for him to hide his "unsightly" pants (they are actually kino pants)
>>3983528kinda wanna make an account to contribute. looks super fun
>>3985881I don’t see how Homestuck can be perfectly and faithfully adapted to an animated show like Helluva Boss with limited runtime per episode without trimming parts or sacrificing the seemingly input-based appearance of the comic’s format. Homestuck is littered with copyrighted material and references on top of having massive walls of indulgent, sluggish text, unique dialogue quirks, and interactive flash segments. The production needs to go all out to do it justice. That’s not even to mention whether or not Andrew Hussie’s creative style could even garner mass appeal in this day and age and wouldn’t go stale or repetitive after a season or two. Newbies are still somewhat important when it comes to a show’s life span. Can they hold out long enough to even adapt the epilogues?
>>3985881I don't think it'll be a very good adaptation- it's almost impossible to faithfully adapt the comic into this medium. the artstyle and voices are decent but people already noticed animation errors kekhowever, it will probably still be a very fun short and intro into homestuck. I'm glad I'll get to participate in the fandom this time around
>>3988076I hadn't even considered the typing quirks. I suppose they are not necessary to understanding the characters, but they seem so integral to my perception of them it feels impossible to separate the two. Is it really eri if he isn't typing in a wwavvy wway? There is no way to replicate that in animation without coming off as egregiously cringe. The censored movie posters were also pretty disappointing, if understandable. No Juggalos, no Betty Crocker, no "Don't Want to Miss a Thing". What's even the point? Homestuck without Nick Cage references is like a bunny without it's box. I do kind of wish Homestuck was more accessible, though, if only to make re-reading it easier. There is so much fat that can be cut out of it, and I think it could make a really tight narrative with the right editing, and maybe some revisions to the ending. I still think a proper, retro earthbound-like video game would be the best format. Like we were promised with the Kickstarter.
I don't often ship bros, but stridercest is special. I remember the day when ipgd was raked over the coals by the tumblrinas and ostracized from the art team for writing "People Don't Do That" and "Family Never Ends". Excellent fics, everyone should check them out. Even if Family Never Ends crushed my soul into tiny little pieces to the point where I couldn't bring myself to finish the epilogue. That one gets /rough/.
>>3988398not that I'm complaining, but where'd this idea come from that dirk is full of scars?
>>3988399KEK
>>3988614No clues. Tortured emo boys often have cool badass scars, probably, or else what’s the point of exposing skin? The Homestuck kids fight like they’re Shounen anime characters sometimes, dying easily to one-shot hits while emerging unscathed after getting flung around and smashed into the ground. At least one of the possible perks of the upcoming animated adaption is getting to see all the abstract actions choreographed and all the fuzzy details fleshed out in real time.
>>3988614Presumably because he strifes with his robots.
>>3988538>There is so much fat that can be cut out of itthe fat adds to it's charm imo. adds a lot of characterization while also being goofy fun and keeping you guessing as to which elements will actually come back around to being plot relevant
>>3988543holy shit a fellow stridercest comrade. I'm crazy about the pair, however it's been hard to find art or fics of them, so I'll be checking out your reccs as soon as possible. thanks, anon!in return here's 2 oneshots I'll recc back as a start: how to fuck up a Mad Snacks Yo speedrun so bad you almost die for real (sfw), and penis in theory penis cthonic penis recursive penis neoplatonic (slightly nsfw)if you ever find more content, by all means dump it here
>>3988641>>3988654I figured it might be over his brobot strifes. however jake loves to strife even more so that part was throwing me offeither way, scars are dope
Dangerously based striderposting
>>3988726I would be fine if the show ditched Andrew Hussie’s self-insert and added more original scenes to fill the gaps but I fear they would cut too many of the interesting narrations and monologues on top of trimming the dialogues that were one of the primary tools Homestuck used to tell its plot. What’s even going to be left of the Troll Dancestors if their NPC-level dialogues are just cut?
>>3988736you know it, bro
Thread needs more tavros desu
>>3988742oh well yeah you can definitely cut hussie from it- though funnily enough he's already confirmed to be in the pilotthe narration and dialogue getting gutted is my huge concern too. going by the story changes in the trailer it's already an extremely concise version of the story
up to chapter 6 in the family never ends fic anon recc'd. enjoying it greatly so far. anons should recc fics/artists to each other more often
now for some non-strider shit to make up for all my strider posting
i kiss boys

you guys ever hear of r3ype/nerutic or whoever? some sick brodave shit they had going on
>>3990559Who? The Internet isn’t saying much outside of the facts that R3ype/Nerutic/Nem had a Tumblr account that is now deleted and drew incest arts (Roxy + Rose, Roxy + Dave, and Dirk + Dave). All of that person’s arts are apparently only archived on Pinterest now in low quality, and there doesn’t seem to be any immediately obvious archive currently available on AO3.Pic related is from R3ype/Nerutic/Nem supposedly.
>>3990559>>3990711I've seen a couple pieces of their works but like other anon said I guess they went off the grid as it's hard to find more on them. strider abuse is really well-liked on twitter somehow. not my thing, but I do like their artstylehopefully they weren't kinkshame bullied into stopping like so many artists have been
>>3990888I love this meme we need more of it
What do you guys think of the Homestuck pilot?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQszKkN6Jb0
>>3991147from the little I've seen of the artist, this page in particular stayed in my mind
>>3991204>>3991300how dare they come up with 10/10 boy designs to never use again
>>3991324too much cursing compared to the original characters. few animation errors. introduced too many concepts without really explaining anything which left many newbies confused. voice direction was really off, except john'sbut the artstyle grows on you. I liked the retcon hand in the sky gag. the fight scene was cool and larger than life. and the 11 minute pilot is overall decent enough for what it is as a proof of conceptI hope it takes off. I hope we get to see the day they make plushies of the alpha kids too
>>3991324The pilot is fine as a proof of concept but there are reasonable concerns about it. All the references are probably going to be removed. The narrator low-key sucks and I don’t like how John acknowledges the narrator, which may actually contradict the established lore? It wouldn’t be too bad if the script being modified to have some out of character parts and more instances of “fuck” was exclusively just for the pilot. Homestuck is a lot of times a glorified chat log and trying to rewrite the dialogues so that they are more “natural” or, worse, more “Vivzie-like” would be terrible. The kids already speak and think more like young adults in the comic and they should stay that way. Pilot Dave smiling and laughing too much + his voice actor leaning into him being kinda like a douche is a bad sign of this. This may be reading too much into it but it’s almost like they’re not confident they can keep the viewer’s interest and attention if the characters aren’t bursting with personalities and making dozens of movements and micro-expressions at every moment, thereby causing Dave to be characterized as more expressive and loud than deadpan and cool, if that makes sense. Talking through the phone in place of texting may be more convenient but it’s far better if the show sticks to the characters typing their messages with voice-overs. Additionally, I could be wrong but I feel like the newbies that only watch the pilot may have failed to get the impression that Homestuck is, in many ways, a mystery story that tries to intrigue the audience and encourages speculations instead of just providing entertainment. On the other hand, the animation is smooth. The art style is fine and even fitting for an animated adaptation. The voice acting is okay. We even got new merchandise. Despite the mixed reaction, it seems there’s still hope for the adaptation to be successful.
>>3991324as someone who never managed to get into the comic (after attempting to read it like 3 or 4 different times at various points in my life), i thought it was ok. i liked it enough to click into this thread, at the very least. i don't feel compelled to re-attempt to read the comic, though that might be partially by design since i hear hussie apparently doesn't want people doing that anymore>>3991776>Additionally, I could be wrong but I feel like the newbies that only watch the pilot may have failed to get the impression that Homestuck is, in many ways, a mystery story that tries to intrigue the audience and encourages speculations instead of just providing entertainment.you are correct, i did not realize it's supposed to be a mystery. to be fair though, i also never came away with that impression during any of my attempts to read the comic (though perhaps i just didn't get far enough in for any of the mystery elements to present themselves)
>>3992151I’m glad someone likes the pilot enough. Sorry if the thread gives you unwanted spoilers. Regarding the mystery aspect, Homestuck pays much attention to its world and background, and how events pan out aren’t always clear-cut. At varying points throughout the story, there were non-linear scenes, unexplained stuff happening, fragmented concurrent storylines, meta narratives, characters misunderstanding things, hidden backstories and a buttload of lore and worldbuilding. Homestuck back then was a routinely updated comic that had allowed interactions, feedback and suggestions from the readers to affect the story, so readers would give Hussie ideas, get misled, have expectations subverted, require external clarifications or need to parse through a lot of details early on in the webcomic that might appear innocuous but actually foreshadowed plot elements great in advance, which fueled speculation in between updates. The biggest criticism of Homestuck is that by the end of the comic and even the epilogues, there are still unanswered questions and dropped plot threads, possibly because Hussie might have gotten burnt out.
