How do anons feel about tagging top/bottom dynamics for fanfics? A friend that keeps half a thumb on the pulse of the fandom mentioned it being a fairly hot topic. Which I can understand, but what if the fic is just fingering or dry humping? Should I bother even if the dynamic isn't exactly explicit? Curious to hear anon's thoughts/preferences on this.

This is why they often ask writers that have long WIPs upfront what the dynamic will be so they don't read it and get disappointed later. While there is annoying behavior on all sides of the fandom, there has absolutely been deceptive and judgmental stances from certain writers who intentionally hide or choose not to disclose until last minute t/b dynamics because: >a) Moral virtue signaling about irl gay culture and how gay men switch a lot in real life (false)>b) Feeling that readers should read it no matter what t/b dynamic you choose (narcissism) >c) Frustration at being asked frequently or before they've decided (justified) and frustration that readers will drop their fic when they find out who the t/b is (unjustified, people drop books all the time)Switch shippers often make fun of fixed shippers with "it's just sex get over it!" but switchers are always butthurt when they lose readership and engagement from their fixed readers. Ultimately, fixed shippers don't care what somebody writes, they just want to avoid it with filters. My thoughts are that preferences are fine and tagging takes seconds to do so I recommend it.Writers only serve to lose engagement by refusing to tag or adding switching scenes after tagging t/b. Maybe those writers don't care about losing readers but most do - I've seen so many cases of writers who have sadposted about losing certain followers or getting blocked by popular fixed artists who don't want to see them anymore. The 'switching is better' crowd loses in the end because they alienate fixed shippers who make up the majority of fandoms. Esp for untagged long fics.Also if someone is being fingered, they're a bottom because they are receiving penetrative sex. If someone is getting dry humped on the ass, mimicking sexual intercourse, they're a bottom.
