As a child and young teenager, I had the idea in that being openly gay meant resigning yourself to a life of isolation, depravity and meaninglessness, and so I struggled with coming to terms with my own gayness. At the time, I lived in a very religious environment, so that stereotype was the only exposure I had to the "homosexual lifestyle". I really didn't want to resign myself to such a filthy life. When I was 14, however, I read Scott Pilgrim. Seeing Wallace (an attractive, well-liked, fun gay guy) get treated like a normal, beloved member of the comic's core group unironically made me realize that I could be both gay AND cool. For this reason, I'm eternally grateful to Scott Pilgrim.
>>4004524It's just a shame you didn't follow through with the cool part.
>>4004563At least I know it's a personal failing and not a consequence of my homosexuality
>>4004524I can't even remember what media introduced me to the idea that guys can like guys. With the gay representation kid-me was exposed to, I was mostly unaware of the fundamental homosexual aspect of homosexuality: I associated the gay exclusively with drag, and so, I thought gays were just a type of comedy entertainer, a fusion of clown and stand-up comedian.>get treated like a normalKind of a tangent, but I think the most annoying kind of gay discourse is boomer and Gen X gays complaining about normie millennial and zoomer gays "diluting" the culture or whatever with their family-rearing and sundry white picket fence aspirations.Like, what is this lgbt thing to you, just one big Studio 54? just some insider cool kids club? It's the exact same loser mindset that drives Eltingville nerdism.
>>4003769I used to only care for Scott and Wallace but Science Saru's designs for Takes Off has done a lot for me to fall in love with Neil and Matthew. This one particular frame in particular I love, I think it's the little eyelash and the way the crotch of his jeans pops upwards. I also love when people draw Neil in ill-fitting underwear, like he still wears the themed underwear he got years prior, but I don't think any of those are blue-board territory.

>>4006835>Like, what is this lgbt thing to you, just one big Studio 54? just some insider cool kids club? The powers that be are the ones pushing this idea. Any time I read about anything lgbt related it's referred to as the LGBT Community. Like, if I'm gay, suddenly I'm part of them.
>>4009232>Like, if I'm gay, suddenly I'm part of them.I mean, yeah.Different people with different lifestyles, from different backgrounds, bound by a common experience and circumstance. The way the concept is understood now, that counts as a community: the Black community, the IBS community, more putatively, the gamer community, etc. The nation/state is one such community. And your point only tracks with what I was talking about if by "powers that be," you mean boomer homosexuals going all "back in my day" any time they see K-Pop gays being unfamiliar with Kenneth Anger
