It was the 10th anniversary of the Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars variant that Gwen first appeared on, and it was the 10th anniversary of her first in comic appearance in her Howard the Duck back-ups. Gwen even got another mini-series this year on top of her occasional appearances in It's Jeff.Was 2025 a good year for Gwenpool? I guess I'll talk about some disappointments.I read Tongues (volume one) by Anders Nilsen recently. It had a modicum of hype in indie comic circles, though I saw nothing about it here on /co/, which is typical. Tongues is about the anticipated return of Prometheus, the Greek Titan, set in the modern day, mostly in the middle of nowhere. Since I like this kind of stuff (mostly through Bacchus by Eddie Campbell), I thought I'd love it. Wrong. Despite the compelling subject matter, despite the trippy paneling and art, I was left pretty unsatisfied. Could be the fact that it's incomplete, but I don't care to read more when there is more. I didn't like any of the characters, didn't like the art, didn't care for the plot or philosophical musings.I had read Nilsen's Big Questions before and don't remember much. Like that comic, Tongues features birds. I think all his prior works are connected to this in some way, but I'm not really interested. But one of you might like this, as there is plenty there to digest, and plenty more on the way. This only volume one. If anyone here likes this, I totally understand. You may see this among the contenders for best graphic novel of 2025 or something or other.
