Why did this become a thing?
>>151851677Don't be sad Wendy, your ass is huge!
>>151805767>I'm the good guy!
>>151805627Raisins doesn't appear enough to feel like that
Do most people understand what makes a good character?>a good character has good and bad qualities, and the best characters are just endless flaws>flaws including having an annoying voice, being ugly and repulsing the viewer>the character MUST offend peopleseems to be the standard template for the past decade. I've even seen "Is a homophobe" as a commonly offered character flaw, and when asked "How?" the answer is their character arc is all about becoming a homophiliac, missing the point in a way that feels intentional. And that's before you hit the other problems. If a character twerks, it's seen as funny, outrageous, a "Take that, illiberals!" punch and there's no introspection of how it's unsettling for all but a niche audience, it's even listed as a good character quality.Take the Grinch, the Joker or Darth Vader. You like them. Then take any more recent remakes of them. You don't like them. But the critic will say "This is a well balanced character, and the evidence is exactly that you don't like them". What's the point? Do they hate paying audiences?
>>151851458>You can't just have a homophobe, you need a character willing to do a hate crime. What does the audience see in this character? Why would they like this character?>that's not the point, the point is the character does XThat's the problem I'm pointing out here. There are countless reasons image related is popular. It depicts morally horrific things... in a cartoonish environment where nothing is grotesque, the characters are reflective, brotherly, warm and fuzzy (to boys, manchildren and men who feel left behind in (western) life) and it doesn't actually do anything wrong. The most offensive part was a mother depicted with I think a cigarette, which was to appeal to viewer bias or otherwise affirm this is their safe space. It's not trying to offend, it's trying to cultivate customers and eyeballs for adverts.
>>151851450People don't make things for a potential audience anymore, they make things to satisfy only themselves and will throw public tantrums if what they chose to make isn't what people want. That goes double for anything they took over that was established years ago by someone else.
>>151851450It's generally culturally accepted these days that people offended at others being gay is seen as a character flaw. The why is several fold, first there's the thinking that there is anything wrong with it in the first place, which usually comes from religious traditions. So that gets you into the weeds of religions and their rules being forced on others. For the same reason secular people don't want their children's genitals mutilated, or for women to never be allowed to show their face because of the fairy tales of desert people, they also don't see the point in prosecuting someone for being homosexual. Which brings to another point, to most people now homophobia is looked down on because someone else's sexuality is no business to outsiders. If someone does feel offended by seeing two dudes kiss, that's their problem. Them thinking those two dudes shouldn't kiss because is makes them uncomfortable, just makes them seem narcissistic. The grinch I can't speak to, I only ever watched the old cartoons and don't care much. As for The Joker, even though Romero will always be my guy (also gay as fuck btw), the Ledger Joker is widely considered one of the best. Then there's the Leto one which is lame, but also certainly not a balanced character. The Phoenix one has been confimed that it's just a too edgy movie about a sad clown with a nervous tick, he is not and never was the Batman villain, The Joker. As for Vader, again I haven't paid attention to most of the ancillary stuff, but the core of Star Wars which is the 6 movies by Lucas does it fantastic.
OP why are you acting like an authority on writing good fiction, have you made something successful? Please post it if so

I want the neon gang from those dumb Schumacher Batman films to be a canon gang in mainline Gotham. Sometimes its just nice to have a weird in-between of organized crime and Arkham weirdos.
>>151850460NTA but Joel Schumacher made better Batman movies than Tim Burton.
>>151849674Debi Mazar was Spice, and she was probably as big a star as Barrymore at the time.
>>151846670they're a callback to the insane Max Schreck plan from Batman Returns to build a boondoggle power station and get paid to generate excess electricityso everything in the next movie ends up neon (even though Schreck dies his plan still goes on because of inertia) and the gangs just adapt to it
>>151851498That's actually a pretty cool callback to see

The Loud House is an underrated, entertaining, funny, modern, visually appealing and profound masterpiece with outstanding characters like Lynn Loud Sr., the best thing is Lola Loud, but the rest is equally remarkable, one of the best Nickelodeon Animation Studio achievements ever.
>>151851228Just listened to The Lost Souls by the way. This is not precisely my kind of thing but I definitely respect what I'm listening to and not just to be polite. I can tell you skate, man, this is definitely that type of music from back in the day. We're close. Let's meet in the middle, recommend me something a little more chill than this (from the 90s, man).

Post about dead webcomics in this thread. This thread is only for DEAD and ABANDONED webcomics.
