The closest connection these two franchises have, aside from Smash of course but it's not fair to include something in which crossovers is the entire point, is that Star Fox Adventures started out as a Timber Tiger spin-off of Diddy Kong racing before being changed into an original IP in Dinosaur Planet before in turn being changed into a Star Fox game and the only artifact of this is that Tricky has the same name as the DKR triceratops but still clearly can't be the same character.
