You would have to rely on parody constantly. Which means you're paying all that money to essentially keep yourself appraised of what's "in" and then constantly seeking to make favors or whatever with artists and companies to let you represent their work. It's just....so much to have to handle. And without the recognizable licensed music what's left? All you have are generic (albeit recognizable) animal characters having generic G-rated adventures. Only with pitched voices! It's a gimmick. And it's up to the individual on whether it works for them or not. Past a certain point I have to imagine that one wouldn't need the Chipmunks as a filter to enjoy the playback of songs with a heightened pitch on favorite songs. Just get audio software and tune it up yourself.
The obvious next step is Chipthugs and rap music.
