Why are troqs so easy to mind control?
>>151877913
>>151877926Just wondering, you have to be hoping for a particular discussion to come up.
>>151877935I used to do something similar. I like to debate mind control as a method of character reveal in stories How people respond to hypnosis can say a lot about them
>>151877935I've been talking about this shit for a LONG time, there's no discussion I haven't had about it. I just like that one guy who notices the thread and wonders "what the hell, this sure seems to happen a fuckin lot in cartoons for, like, the past 80 years"
>>151876688Imagine someone like Wonder Woman. Every single method should work on her, instantly. If you create an elaborate sci-fi brainwashing device that needed billions of dollars of funding and multiple mad scientists collaborating? Yes, that works, suddenly Wonder Woman is your newest thrall. If you find a novelty hypno-ring in a crackerjack box? Wave it around a little, and Wonder Woman is as much of a toy as the ring itself. And if you were to autistically and completely innocently show her a game of Pokemon, and while she was looking over your shoulder with maternal indulgence if an enemy trainer's Hypno were to land a hit, when you turn back to face her to see her reaction she should already be in a drooly giggly trance.
Do you have any hopes for this show improving in S3 or is it just going to get worse as it focuses more on the gay romance for the sake of pleasing its fujo audience?

If we're allowed to talk about live action slop here of course
>>151877750the trailer was cool
>>151878145The trailer was the only good thing the game, imagine the disappointment when you play the tutorial and you're only able to do like 3 shitty attacks, not even the enemies react to your attacks like they should, shit felt like Morrowind
Charlie Brown you nasty ass nigga, you da only muthafucka I know that’ll fuck up they own Kwanza by not collecting yo’ CHIPS.That crack-ho Lucy was off da hook! Of all the muthafuckas on earth, you the muthafuckest.

Is it bait? But we've got no hint of MJ and Flash in any of these previewed covers or the solicits, and nothing in the previews for Venom 253 are indicating anything. Paul is down the shitter. Let's just say my interest in Death Spiral is a bit higher than it was before I saw this cover. But really, I would also still take Flash over Paul if I'm being honest.
>>151876479Oh, well, good.
>>151876479nope
>>151877975Oh, so then Paul becomes the depraved serial killer, Torment.
>>151878113Maybe Paul dies and is then resurrected as Torment! Which means...Kelly is just ripping off Blackest Night with Knull playing Nekron!
>>151878157If Paul is anyone he's Blackest Night Terry Long

Merry Christmas too all the good and loyal subjects of Latveria. May you all remain loyal and bright and curse that Infernal Richards.
>>151876559Doom finds a way
>Latveria is right next to RomaniaDoom isn't evil. He just comes from a different culture.
I swear, all the different versions of Doom, the 616 one died decades ago, and a new one from a parallel timeline/reality just takes his place. One moment he's trying to destroy the FF, then next he's just another benevolent ruler, the next he's coddling his 'goddaughter', then he's draining his own populace to world....

>>151871842...could Otterton use his mob connections to get revenge on anyone who fucks his wife? I know he's just Mr. Big's florist, but the way Mr. Big talked about him he seemed like he was a friend to the family.
>>151876801Oh, definitely, screwing one of the wives of someone they consider one of theirs could be a quicker way to get harmed than taking money from them.

Talk about Thor. What are your thoughts on Donald Blake? Is he better as a villain, or has the poor man suffered enough?>Created by Odin as "Mortal Half" of Thor to teach him humility >After Thor learned his lesson, Blake was more or less obsolete and slept within Thor's soul>Odin creates a fantasy in which Donald Blake can exist in peace>Midgard Serpent enters the dream world, attempting to weaponize Donald but instead is somehow overpowered>Donald uses the portion of the Odin Force hidden away in his being to kill The Midgard Serpent, take its power, then kill everyone in the dream world. Donald essentially went insane living in a "lie">Escapes, tries to kill all gods and get revenge, eventually defeated. In a dick move Thor, for some reason, subjects him to the snake venom in the eye torture that Loki once had>Thor dies after the Utgard stuff, Blake is free, and both are now kicking around Midgard. Blake refers to himself as "The Serpent" and "The God of Lies"Was this the right thing to do with the character?
>>151870376I found out that in the Jurgens run they were originally thinking of bringing back Don Blake as Thor's alter ego, but instead decided to create Jake Olson as his latest form.Overall I think it was the right move. Maybe the "Thor the God vs. Thor the Man" theme would have had more impact with Don, but most of the things in this run were confined to this run anyway, so it makes sense to have Jurgens' own personal version of Thor's human side. Also I prefer full fledged Stan Lee Thor Speak with the thees and thous, but I admit that many of the best runs don't use this (like Simonon's) and for some reason writers today have trouble getting the syntax right, while in the 20th century they usually knew how.
>>151875098I always liked the flowery talk, it made Thor seem more otherworldly.
>>151876130They try to do the same thing with the special Asgardian font (though that was introduced in 1998 when they still used the Shakespearean talk) but it doesn't have the same zing as "thou" and "fore'er" (never "forever", always "fore'er").
>>151876203And no, I don't know why Thor is allowed to say "ever" but not "forever" and neither did Stan Lee.
>>151876203>NOW AND FORE'ER I CAN DRI'K THIS BO'LE OF WOT'ER M80

>>151874790(cntd)TL;DR; - What I would give, as a general recommendation for anyone not wanting to commit to being a 'completist', is read anything (mostly, but not exclusively, the "Watch" set) that 'leads up to' Night Watch, to understand that novel... (That technically includes Thief Of Time, but only touching upon it as a 'crossover' event.) And then if you're still into it then progress forward, into later Watch novels and (for variety) whatever of the the Industrial/Moist Von Lipwigs you haven't already read.If I knew a person, I might suggest something else. You know a bit of Shakespeare? Well, Wyrd Sisters (Macbeth/Hamlet) and Lords And Ladies (Midsummer Night's Dream) should shape your 'intro arc'.Into musical history (sufficiently pre-millenial, ideally), Soul Music is good; or, if films, Moving Pictures. Heck, an interest in comparative theology gives you Pyramids and Small Gods (though you can also read them as stand-alones without being a theolgian of any kind, to make you think *or* just entertain you).Of course, if you *are* a completist reader and can beg, borrow or steal every book (check your local library?) then, by all means start with TCOM/TLF and go by publication order (note, sometimes more than one book a year, but rarely from the same sub-series so not too important to check the month as well!) and perhaps you'll get the same experience I did... in fact, force yourself to wait at least a few months between finishing one book and starting the next for the 'old fashioned' experience. ;)
As it happens, I am currently re(rerere...)-reading G!G!Still surprises me, after so many years, how much clever writing there is in it. Not as fully matured as the series later becomes. Vetinari isn't the absolute total manipulative bastard that he later becomes, and he's only a _very thoroughly_ manipulative bastard, for example. And Vimes was never intended, in this book, to be the main character that he becomes, merely a foil to the whole 'return of the king' thing (both plotters' nominal king and the one 'carefully left unacknowledged' one that became more important for the whole of the rest of the series). But it gets him and the Watch back up out of the gutter that the start of the book has them in (in his case, quite literally) and they do earn their public redemption.Making the 'later' scenario of Nightwatch (sequel-Vimes in prequel-Vimes's world) rather interesting, and leaving much about the slide between the times of a fresh-faced Constable Vimes and Captain Vimes undescribed but notable.By the time you get to the era of Blackboard Monitor Vimes (in some quarters, the most badass boast he could have - at least until he gains that little scar that goes even further to prove that he knows who he is "in the Dark"), or even just the semi-cameo appearance in Monstrous Regiment, he's not a different man. But he's definitely much happier _and_ determined.
Ook!
>>151863721Judging by this thread you’re dead wrong
>>151847126I tried watching Wyrd Sisters after reading the book and had a hard time keeping up. When you try to cram EVERYTHING in at movie pace, things start to feel rushed and difficult to follow. Also saw Hogfather, and both felt like if I hadn't already read the stories then I wouldn't really know what's going on. They don't do a great job of introducing the characters and letting you get attached to them.
Remember to keep all those laid off cartoonists in your heart this Christmas. Pray for them

>>151873618They sincerely unironically believe that the bosses and CEO's gave them those things out of the kindness of their hurt and da market, so they would just blame black people or some shit But there is an attempt, Matt Walsh and Ben Shapiro have been nagging at their audience about how sick days are fucking gay and that no one needs to retire unless they're disabled(and should then just die quietly)
>>151877893Unions came full circle in promoting worthless nepotists while locking actual talent out of the industry

>>151877893The hollywood unions have leaders without spines. It's why Chris Nolan heading the DGA is good because he's infamously stubborn and left WB over them releasing their movies day and date on streaming to get out of paying residuals to the creatives.
