it's been a wild ride, fellascan't wait til January
>>149987034
Well /co/mrades, it's been a wild ride with all of you over the years. I know we're getting the next part quite soon honest (Ashley what are you doing only taking a 4 month break?) but man the end does feel like a big deal.Deleted and reposted to not interrupt the pages, my bad.
This is good. Isn't it?
>>149987052she should follow webcomic tradition and release nothing for 7-8 years.
>>149987047
Website comment:>Click the new page and keep going ‘til you’re back here!>And that, my dears, is Unsounded. I hope you enjoyed the ride as much as I enjoyed chauffeuring you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your eyeballs, your generous support, your feedback, your comments, your memes, your artwork, your fanfiction, your theories, your nonsense, and for just being you, part of a very indie story and a very indie community. Thank you.>…but we’re not going anywhere! As announced, I’m very hype to bring you a sequel - “The Red Cost” - launching right after the holidays, on Monday, January 5th. Sette, Jivi, Duane, and Matty return - along with some other old friends and a lot of new ones - to take us further into Kasslyne. New senet beasts await, new mysteries lurk - and so does a new website and a bigger display size for pages. Mark your calendar or just follow one of Unsounded’s social media accounts so you don’t miss out on the launch. During the break, if you want to follow along with the sequel’s development and peek on forbidden art, consider subscribing on Patreon.>Monday I’ll be posting info for the fanworks contest! Submit fanart or a fanfic to delight your fellow readers and compete for a prize. And don’t forget to check out the Kickstarter if you want your hands on print books with print exclusive bonus comics in them. For now - Seeya later! :)>https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ironspike/summer-2025-mystery-project>Pledge now for professionally printed editions of the first two books of Unsounded featuring brand new covers and bonus material - and eventually a place in actual stores! If these sell well, we can get the whole series archived in print and on your shelves. We can do it! I want you to have these books!>-Ashley
Patreon comment (spread across two comments due to character count):>And that is the end of the first part of Unsounded! Our heroes will be okay. The wind may blow, but it's not taking them anywhere if they hang on to each other and keep moving forward. And yes, the Crescians misspelled poor Quigley's wholeass name and lied about his death. Propagandized in life, propagandized beyond. Duane is livid.>Thank you for all your support, patrons. I can't stress enough how much this story belongs to you. It would never have gotten to this point without your patronage. I would never have been able to make this my job and see it through to the end. I know sometimes we can feel like we're throwing our money at real landfill bullshit: merchandise, plastic Hollywood movies, whatever product is streaming this week. But you didn't. For whatever it's worth, you put some money directly into getting a story made. You paid for a few Sette smiles and more than a few dramatic drops of blood. Whatever else might be going on, I want you to feel good about this thing you helped make.>And it doesn't have to end if you're up for a sequel! "The Red Cost" launches January 5th of next year - a bright spot to ease the blow of heading back to school or work after the holidays.>I want to launch with a big drop of a prologue that'll pull you right back into the world. "The Red Cost" is weirder; squirmier. It dives headfirst into concepts that were a bit on the periphery of "Unsounded." Plods. The intricacies of the religions. The mechanics of Alderode. The learning of pymary. It's the story of a shitty little gang called the Tanners, the last days of the Adeliers, a great big revolution, a lion-tailed rogue's search for her destiny, a man's search for his ending, and a lot of people trying to survive a slow collapse they never asked to be a part of.
>>149987076this shit fucks, she needs to sell these as full-size posters fr
>>149987123>But while I'm working on it over the next few months I also want to have fun here. So stick around if you want to see concept art, previews of pages, and request doodles and naughty stuff. I ain't going anywhere :)>Monday I'll post info on the next fanworks contest. You'll have a long time to work on this one!>The Kickstarter is heading ever onward. Boy will I bet glad when this is wrapped up and you guys can get your books! Still closing in on the cover upgrade! I think next week I'll also preview some of the bonus comics! I remain so bad at marketing :D>https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ironspike/summer-2025-mystery-project
I'm a bit surprised she's diving right into the sequel, I assumed there would have been a longer break like at least half a year for her to prepare as well as rebuild the buffer. Guess Floridians must be part shark or something. Also a bit disappointed we don't really see anything to do with Duane in the epilogue, I was expecting at least some sort of visual tease for his current predicament.
Ashley. I love you. I love Unsounded. Thank you for making it for us. Time to make good on my promise and join the Patreon.>>149987038>>149987052January isn't that far away at all. Can't wait for it. Ashley is absolutely crazy and spoiling the hell out of us. Especially if she intends to post a chunk all at once.>>149987127Would buy.
>>149987134>>149987109By the way, I haven't mentioned it when posting these, but when Ashley links to the Kickstarter it usually has some kind of referral bit on the end of the link (ref=c3gd3z). I have to remove it to post because 4chan thinks it's spam and blocks the post. I'm not sure if it matters at all, just wanted to clarify in case anyone noticed and was curious.
>>149986993I get lying about the way he died for propaganda purposes, but not even bothering to get his name right is a dick move. As expected of the Crescian pigs
So now that it's 'over', what was everyone's favorite part of the comic? Favorite character? Favorite fanart?
>>149986993that's growth, too.
>>149987247I figured that was because they're different languages and cultures and are translating it closer to how Cresce would spell it. Remember, most Crescian names aren't more than four letters to begin with and Alderode has its own language.
>>149987247Maybe it's an aldish vs continental thing like how Duane's name is pronounced
>>149987247Indeed. They got BOTH his names wrong.
>>149987265It is. The wing horns are cute too. Shame Sette didn't let him in her gang.
>>149987260I wonder how much has changed between this and the old test design
>>149987304meant to link>>149987076
>>149987076Regina looks awesome, love the tats.>>149987127Seconded. Ashley please give us cool posters or prints to put up, would love some with the art of the new book covers too!
>>149987279They did spell it wrong, but it's written fairly close to how it's pronounced in Continental.
>>149987332I want any merch, fuck. I would buy almost anything she gave us the option to. Posters, pins, stickers, prints, magnets, art book (this most of all). In the alternate timeline where Unsounded gets crazy popular I would love some figures or plushies as well.
>>149987076Yes, but will the REAL main character make an appearance?
>>149987076>breeding plats to flower(?) instead of headsWhat's the point for all I know that could actually be a Jet. It's not plat without the plat hair.
>>149987260>favorite part of the comic?Duane's backstory, that shit was so raw back in the day. Either that or the Mikaila reveal.>Favorite character?Duane, obvi>Favorite fanart?I love the Groucho stuff, it's all comedy gold. Hope he makes another banger for the contest
>>149987123>I want to launch with a big drop of a prologue that'll pull you right back into the world. "The Red Cost" is weirder; squirmier. Holy shit. How long did part one of Unsounded take? I'm awed by Ashley but I can't help but worry. Unsounded was and is such a fresh world, that I wish it got more recognition. Does anyone know what her day job is? Is she making enough money?
>>149987260My favorite part of the comic is still the quiet moment between Duane and Sette in the shed after she'd had the stuffing temporarily kicked out of her. Little pep talk from Duane and five seconds later she was chasing chickens around the yard.
>>149987416This is her job anon
be at rest Quigs, you were the Worst
>>149987272>most Crescian names aren't more than four letters to begin withImagine being the poor grave marker chiseler having to do a shitload after the worst attack on their city in a while, then being handed that 12 letter messIts like this aldish prick gets an entire extra name, fuckin alds
>>149987260>favorite partI'd have to say A Good Night for Crazy, with the Deadly Nevergreen being a close second. Part 1 of Unsounded is really two parts, with the Deadly Nevergreen being the climax of the first story arc.>Favorite characterSette, Tomas, and Jivi are all based.>Favorite fanartI don't really have one, so I'm going to post pic related instead.
>>149987416>Does anyone know what her day job is?She used to do designs for a homewares company or something. She quit that and went full time on Unsounded like a decade ago though.
what are we to do with our time now? outside of these threads aint much on /co/ to talk about, is there any traction on storytiming the comic before the kickstarter closes?
>>149987076How much red will be in The Red Cost?
>>149987260Mikaila being revealed to be alive is the most righteous correctness I have ever felt. I was saying she was alive for years and basically everyone discounted me. Then people started to come around in the chapter reveal but I was talking about it since Chapter 7! God damn I was right!
I was here!
>>149987416>Is she making enough money?More than enough to make Unsounded her day job, shes one of the top webcomics on Patreon (still criminally low compared to fags like Handstab) plus her Kickstarters probably give her an extra bit of dosh once all the expenses are paid. She also does occasional commission work and other side gigs for supplemental income. It probably helps that Florida has no income tax either.
>>149987480>coping this hardShe's dead. She's never coming back.
>>149987416She doesn't make enough money, about minimum wage, the comic is her only job and there's no way she could keep this schedule without it being full time. Go support her on Patreon if you're worried, it's the biggest way to make a difference.>>149987260>Favorite partBasic, but probably the first flashback with Duane when Sette is in the Khert. It was poignant to see and gratifying for Sette to see it.>Favorite character?Sette, Duane, and Ilganyag.>Favorite fanart?https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zeJkT1QaZHYThis and the Black Tongue Blues arrangement at the bottom of the page.https://www.casualvillain.com/Unsounded/Contests/2021/2021_entries.html
>>149987494Hope she's starts planning retirement.
>>149987547I don't think she's anywhere close to retirement age and Unsounded will probably be done in another 10 years at most.
>>149987547I don't think she can afford to plan retirement. Iirc she's on medicaid and making just around minimum wage, she's said both of these on Tumblr before. She's devoting her life singularly to Unsounded (and The Red Cost). Hopefully the publishing deal gives her a boost to that, but her audience is still small, it won't be a life changing amount.
>>149987494>More than enoughNigga, she doesn't make that much off Patreon. People who say this are zoom zooms who don't know what paying rent is like. After we literally talked Cope into getting on Patreon she wasn't making enough to pay the rent and bills for the first year or two she was on it.>shes one of the top webcomics on Patreon Not even close really. The top comics on Patreon are making 5-10 times more than her, easily. Jeph Jaques has been making something like $20k a month for over a decade for his terrible slop.>plus her Kickstarters probably give her an extra bit of doshDude, they were years ago. YEARS. And there wasn't much money left after the printing and posting. This is why it's good she's with a publisher now, because she doesn't have to wear up front costs and imaging what international shipping is going to be like months in advance.Don't talk about bidness dude, you obviously don't understand it.
>>149987361Yeah, it's like how Jivi and Nary spell Sette "Setty". Although I never considered Mathis Quigley was pronounced anything other than what it looked like. Apparently it never was Math-Iss Kwig-Lee.
>>149987566Anon, the first book took closer to fifteen years than ten and she's in her early-mid 40s.>>149987573This. There are only 1,001 paid members on her Patreon. The tiers are $2/mo, $5/mo, and $10/mo. She's not making anything of note. She also rarely takes commissions because she doesn't have time with the comic, and hasn't done unrelated with in years.
>>149987591Could be a difference in pronunciation between the two countries. Remember, in Continental it is correctly pronounced Dwayne and it's only Alderode that's Doo-ahn.
Man, gonna be rough waiting for roughly half a year for more. It'll be worth it though. Are we gonna just continue to call it Unsounded or by the new name?>>149987260Both of the flashback chapters were probably among my favorites. Seeing Duane alive and a mess was always fun.
>Sette and frens are about to do a jailbreak, her crew consisting of a sailor brat and a blind person>Mikaila is about to get the full brunt of Alderode's societal ills>Duane will inevitably be fully justified about FUCKING CRESCIANS once he finds out about the bitch-queen's plan to defile the Dammakhert, mere weeks after learning to not be racistWe have a lot to look forward to.Ashely, if you still lurk here I want you to know you're easily one of the best webcomic artists I've found, and by extension one of the most devoted storytellers in general. I know it's not an easy game, and it takes a lot of effort to do a project like this, updating with a rigid schedule and not fucking off for greener pastures midway. Very few webcomics see a proper ending, despite being a bastion for indie stories. You're a fucking gem, and don't you ever forget it.
>>14998741615 years, maybe 14. Can't remember if the comic started in 2010 or 2011
>>149987715>Are we gonna just continue to call it Unsounded or by the new name?I don't think Ashley's actually fully decided what's happening name-wise yet. The possible cover of book 2 she just posted says "The Red Cost (an Unsounded sequel)" but she also said "First part of Unsounded" in the same post while describing book 1.I get a feeling the overall name is going to remain Unsounded in the end, and Book 1 will get a subtitle like The Red Cost has. Also, I'm going to be calling it the Red Coast by accident for fucking years, I can tell.
>>149987737I dunno how angry Duane would be about the Dhammakhert at this point. For one thing, he's not connected to it and I think his patriotism has been somewhat shaken. Like I'm sure he'd try to stop it, but I dunno if he'd experience the same patriotic anger that he did before. Especially if he ends up learning what exactly she plans to do with it.
>>149987737>Duane will inevitably be fully justified about FUCKING CRESCIANS once he finds out about the bitch-queen's plan to defile the Dammakhert, mere weeks after learning to not be racistHe's currently nailed to a wall while they experiment on him like he's not human, after he helped save the city. They didn't give him even a single second to think his hate was unjustified.
>>1499877392010
>>149987784Exactly my point. I'm ready for total Crescian death, we must slaughter the Bitch-queen and throw her putrid remains into the ocean. My only grievance is that we could not deliver the same fate unto ROGER FOI-HELLICK
>>149987784I think he'll be angry as fuck mainly because he has finally learned to humanize them and will be pissed that they largely don't live up to Toma, Elka and the kids at the Shrine, that said >>149987777 is also right, he's probably not too thrilled with his own countrymen anymore either
>>149987260>Favorite part of the comicTwo of Duane's lines: "For all my bluster, have you not yet realized there are precious few things I would not do for you?" and "God is not attained by transaction; Good men keep no ledgers and are richer for it.">Favorite characterDuane or Bastion, I guess. Ruck also is great as a villain, so close to human yet far enough to be uncanny.>Favorite fanartThis little animation someone did years ago. A full animated adaptation would never work and would be a terrible idea, but little bits here and there could be cool.
>>149987464I would enjoy a storytime of it, at least. I'm far overdue for a reread and it would be a good refresher for the next book.
>>149987480I was one of the few who believed in you Anon. Especially because there were those journals at the start. Never got to read them before they were taken down but it was so obvious given the initials were signed MA.
>>149987861I'd be down for that. If someone does it, it should be in like November or so, so it wraps up right before the new book starts.
>>149987845>This little animationIt's pretty great. But also that Sette and Duane go to the mall thing where Sette has a voice like a 50-year-old bellowing Scottish man is fucking hilarious."Duane! DUANNNNNE!!!"
>>149987247It doesn't matter since Matty can't read!
>>149987260Favourite line: "Good men keep no accounts, and are richer for it"
>>149987715I'm attached to Unsounded, but The Red Cost sounds really good too.
>>149987874Might be hard to catch enough preexisting readers if we wait too long. Maybe if it was done on some kind of schedule?

>>149987260>fav partCutter introducing himself as Delicious lizard.>fav characterI'm really interested in Nary>fanartI don't look for it so I never see it. Shaensigin is my favorite design
>>149987737>Ashely, if you still lurk here I want you to know you're easily one of the best webcomic artists I've foundTruer words have never been spoken, and still such an incredible understatement. The dedication she's put into this is staggering. And as good as the art is, it's her literary skills that make this a masterpiece. Such an insane knack for characterization, pacing, and world building.
>>149987972>I don't look for it so I never see it.https://unsoundedupdates.tumblr.com/miscellanyIf you're interested, there's some really good stuff.
As others have mentioned, and I am no doubt sure she’s lurking, Ashley you have done something extremely rare: created a full, thriving universe with thousands of fans eager to follow and developed fully under your unique voice. To see a series span many, many years with little interruption and handled entirely by one individual is an immense undertaking. There are very few in the comics medium who can claim something similar. It’s wild how I started reading this at its beginning nearly 4 companies ago and now that I’m in a position where I manage and direct dozens of people, I can’t fathom surviving all the work you do by yourself.Thank you again for this wonderful series and I, along with many others, are thrilled to see what comes next.
>>149987934Nah. Everyone here now is probably caught up anyways. And if the ones in the storytime aren't they can read alongside everyone else, and by the time they're caught up the Red Cost will be only recently started if it has.
>>149988043True, selfishly I just wouldn't want to miss the threads. Any excuse to discuss Unsounded is a good excuse.
>>149987109 >>149987127I bet last thread that she’d take a 3-4 month break. I’m actually a little surprised I’m right.>>>149987123> the last days of the Adeliers> the last daysStrap in fellas, we’re gonna watch a genocide.
>>149987260>what was everyone's favorite part of the comic? It's incredibly hard to pick, but for me it's chapter 14. Incredibly dense with action and heartbreak and revelatory moments and fascinating fantasy worldbuilding and cool meta-page stuff. I feel like it's got some of the best artwork too.I came back to the comic after a four-year break and that was one of the chapters that came out in the meantime. Reading it all in one shot was just fucking incredible.>Favorite character?Quigs. He was a complete disaster who fucked up so badly so many times, and every single problem he had was because of love. I cried my eyes out when he died. Fantastic character.Fuck, I'm crying again now. What a ride it's been.
>>149987247They also misspelled “Durlyne”, which is kinda funny.

>>149987076>Mikaila has learned to make insects just to hate crime on Plats
>>149988149Completely missed that. Wonder if that's how it's supposed to be pronounced, I've been saying it with an "ee".
>>149988183He's going to have to get something, otherwise how will he keep up?
Favorite minor char death? I'll always remember my boy Elan and his cruel and excessive death. A cowards heart indeed.
>>149987480Getting something like that right with Unsounded is so damn satisfying. Take your kudos anon, ya earned them. For me, my satisfying moment of “right” was when I called that Bastion was disguised as Tesa Moli. That was a chefs kiss moment for me.Along with this moment where Ashley posted a preview panel in response to me trying to put together what the fuck was happening in the khert.
>>149988219You posted him in the same page: Hetr going down to Emil was fucking awesome. Emil's on the back foot for their entire fight, then his comments start to get under Hetr's skin and he completely flips the tables, and he's finally dispatched with a stab through the heart and a pathetic demise that undoes all his delusions of grandeur.

>>149988219>Favorite minor char death?Mallory's death really drove home how fucking evil the Dammakhert is for me.
>>149988203Yeah, that’s how it’s pronounced, I think— “Durr-line”The y functions like an old English y, which has largely been lost in a lot of words, but which you still see in words like thyme, rhyme and anodyne.
Amazing to see it wrap up. Just an unbelievable achievement. Cope I'm sorry I argued with you one time on twitter months ago I didn't want to bring negativity because you have more important things to think about. I mean you probably didn't care about that but whateverIdk what im saying I just think Ashley Cope is really cool and I look up to her as an artist even if I might disagree about some things, that doesn't matter. Cope is so cool, Unsounded is the best webcomic of all time
I still pronounce it Dwayne
>>149988265>Darkest Paul comes out>Everyone makes fun of his name >Comes off as a poser >He's actually top tier >Balls the fuck downI swear a Shart's power is directly tied to how cocky they are
>>149988183I think that’s Darkest. Lookit the raccoon tats.
>>149988338And yet for all its spooky horror movie vibes, I cannot bring myself to hate the Alds more than the Crescians.I think, when push comes to shove, Cresce just manages to push my hate buttons more because they are1. Communists2. Polytheists3. Cannibals
>>149988219Cara's death, at least the part from Duane finding her on. I found it really touching and an appealing contrast to the first chapter. Probably not my actual favorite anymore but it was for quite some time. Nowadays, maybe Sara?
>>149988383The alds also have polytheism and cannibalism though? Half of them are gefendur.
>>149988239I really do appreciate that she still hangs around here and isn't even shy about mentioning it.
>>149988383Oh, I suppose I should add I really have no patience for Sonorie's sanctimony. She's as blood-soaked as anyone in this story, arguably much more so. She's no different than anyone else in our own history who has ever thought they could build a better world on a mountain of corpses. I fully believe Ruck got the better of her in their dispute, if not right away then as the rest of the story played out. She proved herself no better than his diagnosis of her and all humans.
>>149987892>"If in that, I spared you from it, then hell has been">"Has been">"Paltry">"A bargain">"For my brother I'd die twice"Same, Duane.
>>149988259A fart to the end.
>>149988405This is a big part of why I love her so much, and why I want to reward her with an Unsounded fanfic. Now that the whole story, or at least Part One, is finished, I really need to knuckle down and start thinking of fic ideas.
>>149988219Does Knock count as minor?
>remember being a senior in highschool when /co/ would storytime Unsounded >Jivi was still with the red berry boys>It seemed like Goated webcomics were everywhere >Paranatural hadn't entered dodgeball namek and fallen the fuck off >The opposom one didn't get all weird and switch to a novella style >K6BD wasn't even around yet This has been a huge chapter getting book 1 to close. >>149988263
>>149988372Yeah, but the green! That's the color of Duane's pymary. We get a reminder of that on this very image by seeing Mikaila's pymary be the same color. If that's NOT Duane under the hood, what's with the green light?
>>149988394Cara's death is the virgin reader's first hint of Unsounded's true nature; it serves as a filter. If you can read that, appreciate its depth, and continue, you can enjoy the entire work.
>>149988405>>149988432Of all the reasons I love Unsounded, this is high up on my list as well. Compare that to something like Zack's feelings on the 4chan boogeyman having enjoyed Paranatural, and it's genuinely refreshing. Especially when she's so unashamedly one of us, not just willing to visit or take our feedback to heart, but actually kindred in spirit as well.
I like the first soul I think it's kind a cute. I like to see it making an appearance on Sette here, poking it's wings out. Seems like nobody even noticed though lol. They'd probably think it's a normal cosmetic. It's a cool motif. Seems like she will keep doing that since it's in the next chapter preview. Sette really has a pretty busy character design these days! Not that I'm complaining
>>149987047>Or do you flip the fucking thing over?Is Mikaila on team Flip the fucking table? Fuck yeah! Flip the table on the dammakhert. Flip the table on the khert itself. Let's GOOOO!!!
>>149988383I mean a big part of the last 2 arcs was about hammering home that they're just as nasty as everyone else and that they just cover it up with pomp and circumstance as opposed to religious zeal or just being a fucking shart.
>>149988492What does Zach think of 4chan?
>>149988263Amazing. God's work.>>149988352>>149988263>ma-TEES kee-GLAYI see
>>149988537He basically said that if 4chan liked his comic he was doing something wrong and it reflected poorly on him, that he would endeavor to make it as unlikable to them as he could. He succeeded in the end. Not by adding LGBT characters, but with the inconsistent updates and poor pacing. Shame because I really did like Paranatural. It had a lot of potential.

It's funny how one of Cope's most famous comments is "Duane can never be too cool," and yet there's so much content in this comic of Duane being really, really cool. And Emil being cool, and Quigley being cool, and even characters like Lemuel and Bastion and Bell being cool. One thing that I find really enjoyable about this story is that it has a ton of absolutely badass male characters doing cool shit. It feels like the kind of thing you don't get from much mainstream content any more, especially given the dismal state of modern mainstream fantasy and sci-fi. Cool guys doing cool things: Unsounded has them in spades, and I appreciate that more now than I did years ago, in part because it doesn't seem as common any more.
>>149988576>Duane being really, really cool
>>149988576>"Duane can never be too cool,"We've read this wrong the entire time. The meaning is that there is no way for Duane to be "too cool", meaning he can always be even more cool.

Duane's self reflective wankery in ch16 also stood out to me to the point that I started berating myself internally with Duane's voice for some time. Multiple anons here already brought up the "God is unattainable by transaction" quote from that page, but I'll be damned if "How kindly this ugly world has treated you." and "You pursued easy meaning - a comfortable purpose..." didn't hit as hard before that conclusive punch.Chapter 18's "To die for a lie is to awaken in hell" was likewise burned into my brain, holy fucking shit.>Favorite characterSette, obviously, but even more so specifically the dynamics she had with Jivi and Duane across the board. >>149988383This seems to come up in every other Unsounded thread. Alderode is mostly polytheistic cannibals as well. Only a shrinking minority are Ssaelit. Go reread the scene with Bodie in Chapter 7.And I always have to wonder why Cresce's plod-labor-based nearly-post-scarcity command economy is so much worse than a system where the government enforces the existence of a caste that can't live to 30 and where they can literally control your thoughts and kill you just by knowing your name. You don't have to like Cresce's system to recognize Alderode is more authoritarian and generally worse for the average citizen.
>>149988713One thing I really appreciate about Unsounded in light of Gunnerkrigg is that Cope will absolutely raise things to the level of the operatic. The highest highs, the lowest lows, the greatest of grandeurs, the peaks of heroism and the lowest most despicable depths of villainy. I fucking love that shit. Give it to me. So much better than Gunnerkrigg's persistent ironies. What's funny is that once upon a time Tom COULD reach those heights, but he's either forgotten how or he actively chooses not to do it. I'm not sure which would be worse.

>>149988447I think we’re the same age. I could have written your post word for word.Unsounded was such a huge part of my teen years… I think I started reading it around chapter 4 or 5. I can’t believe I followed it for over a decade.I was seeing great comics and artists slowly drop off over the years. Either they turned to shit or just disappeared. New ones pop up periodically but I don’t expect them to stick, and they usually don’t.Gunnerkrigg slid downhill, KSBD started strong (the drinking song remains my favorite chapter) then tumbled… But Unsounded has been my one constant. It’s an absolutely incredible feat of single-minded superhuman dedication and artistry that Ashley Cope managed to bring the first half of this story to a close.
Cope if you're reading this thanks for the fantastic adventure and creative world.

>>149988906Pymary alone blows my mind because it's such a creative magic system, it'd be a marvel if it ever showed up in a contemporary fantasy novel, and yet it's not even the tenth most impressive thing about this story Cope's told.
>>149988476Normally I would agree, but look at that nose! That looks like Darkest’s nose and forehead. Maybe the green is just there to illuminate the face while balancing the color out across the page, since it is after all a lot of red?

>>149988927What impresses me most about Pymary is that it's so simple a child could understand it, meanwhile most mainstream magic systems are so retarded not even their own authors use them correctly.
>>149988947Not for nothing Cope's repeatedly called attention to the fact that Pymary feels like a system specifically made to make sense to the human mind.
>>149988934>>149988476As an added note, look at the gloves! Duane wears bandages, or thorns when he’s alive. Darkest wears thick, solid red gloves, which look like what’s here— just that they’ve been torn or shredded. They don’t look like thorns!
>>149988902I remember spending a good few months reading Unsounded posts on /co/ before finally deciding to pick it up at the point where Jivi gets new clothes from the Ripas. Thank you /co/, if it weren't for these threads I would've never found out about Unsounded.>>149988927The amount of times I've successfully sold comp sci nerds on reading the comic using pymary alone. There's no way Darkest can look that cool
One fun thing about Unsounded that goes underremarked is that it has a tendecy to draw its readers' politics out of them. I've noticed this over years of threads. Cresce vs Alderode is basically a proxy political fight. If you are more left-wing, you naturally defend Cresce, if you are more right-wing, your sympathies naturally fall with Alderode. The debate between Ruckmearkha and Sonorie on the nature of twin sacrifice, and the need for blood in life, is another point of division. Left-wingers tend to think Sonorie gets the better of Ruck, right-wingers tend to think Ruck gets the better of Sonorie.I can basically tell an Anon's politics based on how they'll argue these two debates, along with a few others in the comic. This is very interesting to me because I'm not used to a webcomic drawing out political discussion but also not immediately descending into culture war slopfest. It's another mark of how sophisticated a story Unsounded is, and how rare it is, not just among webcomics but among all /co/ media.
>>149989041He has managed to surprise me by how cool he can actually be when he’s in his element. That being said, what nags me is that anon is right that green is Duane’s color, and why would Sette and her gang be on the cover but not Duane, but Darkest would randomly be there? So it makes me wonder if Duane might be wearing a mask over his eyes…? I don’t know. It’s odd!
>>149989059That’s a neat observation, anon. I think you’re correct.I wonder if that would make Alderode vs Cresce a good topic for a debate competition, where the stakes are fictional rather than real? It’s interesting when the politics can be pulled into the kind of abstractions offered by fiction.
>>149989059Piggybacking, the times Unsounded threads have shifted into real world politics and history through comparison, it's honestly been pretty civil overall. Which in today's climate is nigh unheard of.
>>149989009The gloves don't look like Darkest's either, and neither do the eyes. Not really, anyway. Looks somewhere between the two and much closer to Duane to me.
>>149989059It's because this is a story for adults, not for children or manchildren.
>>149989059Impressive assessment. Where would you put someone who thinks between Ruck and Sonorie, she was right, but generally considers her plans to be evil and repugnant, and tends to be more sympathetic to Alderode overall?
>>149989307Normiecon. Ruck himself seems to appeal to the real reactionaries, monarchists and such.
>>149989335Mostly classic liberal actually.

I take month-long breaks between finishing up installments of the writing I'm doing, and by the end of those 30 days you're consumed with a desire to be back at work on your art. It eats at you not to be working, even if it's for the good (I take my month-long breaks so that I can edit what I've written with fresh eyes). You are feverish with the urge to be at work. You feel the call of the story in the depths of your brain. It's gotta be the same way for Cope. She LOVES this story. It's her life's work. They don't even let said indigs be people after robbing them completely.I won't contest that Alderode is a police state, a shithole, and institutionally evil. That's not even a secret in ultra-patriot Duane's memories. But I will point out that our window into the Alds has been through two coerced minorities, and the 'default' Ald to those who prefer the Aldish is a Soud, specifically, Duane. He sets a pretty sympathetic standard.
Damn word of god and everything
>>149990132I think the thing that's clear from what we've seen of both Cresce and Alderode is the crushing power of the state. Cresce has client states that can't really afford to cross it and when it decides you're done, as a citizen, you're done. You have no recourse or appeal when the state decides your town is getting shut down, if it regards you as unfit for the occupation you desire, etc. Now the state is interested in the best towns and people it can have, so the assessment is probably mostly pretty fair, but it's definitely not above the pettiness of individual people from what we've seen in the comic. And then Alderode... might be alright if you live in a nice ghers with a stable job. But it's a police state, unquestionably, and riven by even internal prejudice. It seems so easy to fall afoul of the state and then they just waltz in and destroy your whole life. I feel like in Cresce there will at least be an attempt at an objective argument for that, that the use case isn't viable, etc, but Alderode will do it simply for anything that *might* be taken as anti-Aldish, or for PR, and will take pleasure in doing it with maximum cruelty.I think the transplanting of right-wing/left-wing as we know it, especially in first world Western democratic terms, does not really work because the restriction of individual liberty in either example is so vastly beyond what we're familiar with. The kind of individual autonomy we're used to just doesn't exist in either Cresce or Alderode.

>>149990271The thought experiment I run through is 'would Ashley Cope be allowed to make Unsounded (or it's equivalent) in Cresce or Alderode?'And it's like uh, probably not. In Cresce maybe if whoever is responsible for allocating resources liked her work, or if she was lucky enough to be born nobility, but in the former case there would still be a question of allowing someone who was artistically talented to operate completely autonomously rather than as part of a team, helping with other projects like stage productions, hey can you learn pymary wouldn't it be more useful if we had you doing glamours for the mayor's banquets etc. Even if you got the funding for a solo project, could you avoid an editor tweaking it to make it just what was just judged most appropriate to Crescian attitudes and morals? Then in Alderode, well again maybe you're lucky enough to not be born a plat and in a rich family, or nobility, or you can find a wealthy patron who likes your work. But there's zero chance anything like an unedited Unsounded is passing Alderode's moral censors, and while you might get away with some work in an artistic field as you approach and shortly into your majority, at some point your dad or nearest male relative is gonna come banging down your door trying to marry you off. And unless your husband likes your work and is an unusually well-rounded Aldish male, he'll probably beat you for drawing rather than looking after the kids 24/7 and keeping up the standing in the neighbourhood.
>>149990293Sourest page for me is maybe when the brother's reunion falls apart. When Duane apologises for wanting to see his wife and kids again, even from a distance. He has a lot of flaws but I feel so terrible for him in that moment.

Ulestry is not a beneficiary of Crescian largesse, it's an imperial subject that knows better than to fight back because the alternative is some Queen and General not busy fighting over whose mass murder plan is better would take time aside to absorb them or completely replace their government.
>>149990340Even in Cresce I think that Unsounded would be banned as written, requiring significant editing. There is no free press there, so even if it was popular enough to be a valid path, she would have to really self edit. And likewise with Ulestry. There, the only freedom is from living a quiet life in the sticks. But religious oppression would still be strong, as it's essentially the Vatican. Move to Sharteshane? Sure, you can write it, but you best pay protection from your local gang AND the paladins. And if you're too willing to speak well of the Ssaelit in your story, the paladins just might find you behind in your payments anyway. >>149990461>wait a minute...Ssael! Jon wanted me to fuck him the whole time?!?
I would guess Duane's spinal pymaric 'self' is not transferrable to any non-tacit corpse but can be Ship of Theseus'd by replacing parts of its existing corpse an infinite number of times. The research that made Duane is thus probably of little use to Cresce given they would need a tacit caster - they do have some - and a sample of the Weeping Plague to try repeat the experiment. It might instruct them on what a whole/non-artificial personality looks like in terms of the khert and encourage advances in construct AI though, or give them ideas for experiments of their own to try to preserve life. Most ironic Resident Evil style way for Duane to get out would be that they do transfer him to another corpse (tacit or not, I think it probably needs to be tacit but if Duane's whole tacit nature and khert port is contained within the spinal pymaric then maybe it works with any corpse) but don't realise he has the Weeping Plague too and he immediately causes a massive outbreak in Cresce because they didn't take the corpse's eyes out first.
>>149990271>so long as you have a strong ghers community to fall back on and aren't living in the same time period as their civil war.Using such extreme assumption makes the comparison meaningless. Cresce also seems very comfortable if you're wealthy nobility, or if you're a really skilled and passionate worker in a field that the state supports. As a bonus, your military doesn't have institutionalized rape camps of civilians.

>>149990858It fucks with the khert dissolving and recycling memories/souls.
>>149990858The plague seems to have some metaphysical component that interferes with the reincarnation cycle, wrt. Sessine's soulbabby garden. Presumably this was somehow necessary to keep Duane's soul in place.I think it's worth noting that Sessine seems to be preferentially targeting Ssaelit souls for nonincarnation. Why, I don't know. She seems more to miss Ssael than hate him, so maybe it's an ark of sorts for her big reset skinside. Or maybe she thinks interfering like that will make Ssael come back to her. I don't know.

In the 40k subreddit a really good artist who captured the terror and misery of the 40k though their style of "cute girl and horrifying monster" got all mentions of them banned because they made an artwork of a bunch of abhumans and implied through the art that the beast girl abhuman soldier was being sexually abused and bullied by the other guard. They should give Matty Duane's eyes.
>>149994183Don't pymary eyes need to be made bespoke to everyone that they're for?
>>149994183The chances of the Crescian state lifting a finger to do that for Matty are less than zero. They wouldn't even treat a soldier's afib.
>>149994226I think its just like any other pymeric in that they can be swapped between people, but since the artificial parts need to line up they may not work properly. Like if our large Cresean friend with the artificial arm put it on a kid, the kid may be able to move part of the arm where it overlaps with his soul, but not the hand/elbow since they don't overlap his bits. Eyes would be more complicated in that they need to be sized for everyone, and make sure the iris is in the right place so you're not getting blurriness. Probably front/back positioning too. Matty, presuming he could fit Duanes large orbs inside his tiny skull, could probably get something blurry out of them. But he'd need them to be refitted/completely redone to actually make them work

He must make pretty decent money when he's not escorting Sette around and there's not much in the way of expenses he requires. >>149994226>>149994321They definitely do for limbs. Those won't work if they don't slot into your port exactly, as your soul can't use them then. For eyes? The important part I remember Ashley talking about with them is they need to be the same distance/position relevant to whatever they're reporting to in the body, so this probably works fairly similarly and requires referencing a port as well.
>>149994226Thinking about it, would Matty even want pymaric eyes? It's not like he lost his in the attack. They're there, still. He can't see with them. Any gift of eyes would require surgically removing a part of his body that still has feeling and is 'healthy' besides being non-functional. Does Kasslyne have the advanced surgery knowledge required for this? And would he want you endure that? Maybe he just needs an enchanted headband or hat.
>>149994831What makes you think Duane was making decent money?
>>149994926He was working in a country full of people who can't read as a scribe. Taking jobs writing letters, reading them, and doing translations. He has no need to pay for food or anything else the living want, only a place to rent, protection to remain unmolested for his Ssaelism, and whatever small knick knacks and books he might like. Most of his other expenses were one time or only will need to be replaced infrequently: restraints to keep him decent, and the homemade body parts like his tongue or lungs.
>>149994924Maybe we could cut out his tongue and give him eyes on the roof of his mouth like the salt lizard, bonus, he wouldn’t be able to talk anymore.
>>149989806You are right, I definitely didn't expect her to just stop working but man she could have taken her time working on it so she wasn't as rush but hey only gotta wait 4 months instead of a year that's pretty dope for us at least.
>>149994926As seen in the bonus story in the previous printed editions, his business seemed to be doing pretty well.
>>149995127>Giving out sem to Sharte bratsDuane is a terrible example of Ssaelit faith. Practically a Gefendur himself. He even tries to convert a black tongue to Ssaelism when he should be letting him wait for his next life.
>>149994924Pymaric eyes explicitly let you see. It's how duane can see because without them he'd be blind. And yes obviously they know to surgically attach eyes or they wouldn't be a thing.
>>149995239Yes, but would you want to scoop out your healthy but blind eyes for that? Eye prosthetics make more sense for people who lost theirs, not just lost their vision. Matty could use absolutely anything else as a pymaric instead of getting his eyes scooped out.
>>149995045I can't imagine you're making the kind of money that could pay for artificial eyes as a Sharteshanian scribe. No doubt it's a useful role, I'm sure there are all manner of getout clauses included in any written Sharteshanian contract, and Duane's expenses would certainly be minimal. But even the Black Tongues couldn't easily get ahold of ocular pymarics. It's serious, big money.
>>149995127I mean it's easy to keep in the black when you have a trade AND you don't need to eat or pay for family or whatever, being undead is very economical
>>149995127If I had to guess it might be better to be a non-Sharte scrivener than a Sharte one in Sharteshanian. Less to worry about who you know and what your angle is.
>>149995290They don't even need to be in his head.
>>149995239I have to admit this is one of the fascinating aspects of the pymarics to be because there are so many things you would have to get right to have a working artificial eye. I have to chalk it up to 'vision works via the khert in this setting' to accept it, really.
>>149995290>>149995377I don't know if Ashley's gone into too much detail on their construction, but I do feel like they could be fashioned as glasses or goggles.
>>149995427
>>149995358Wasn't it that they required Quigley to pay for the materials and so they made the cheapest option possible?
>>149995427That seems like a good idea, provided the pymary for full vision isn't too large to insert into glasses, and we already know glasses can have added effects like how Quigs' let him see khert lines.
>>149995377That's in Duane's soul head, it's just that his bone head wasn't there. Sette had to hold them where they're supposed to be.
>>149988748It's like Dante, he's more cool if you occasionally knock him on his ass.
>>149995377>>149995427they have to line up with where the eyes are on his soul, which is why it worked when Sette held them over his torso when his head was on his lap. Matty's worked with a different and much less functional method
>>149995462Eh, maybe. It looks like there's a certain cost that would have to be paid, but you could get them, but if thousands of Crescian soldiers would be given priority I think the cost must be enormous.I'm gonna guess eyes are partly so expensive because only first rate first materials will do, due to them both needing to be small and hold expensive programming.
>>149995495>That seems like a good idea, provided the pymary for full vision isn't too large to insert into glassesThat would be so fucking weird because your field of vision would be offset and you wouldn't have your nose blocking any part of the lateral field. And your vision would actually be originating from about a centimetre out from your face.So you wouldn't just need to somehow transplant vision, you would need to adjust it so the brain could cope with how it had changed.
>>149995575Not as weird as the view if Sette knicked Chitz off Matty and shoved it in her pants.
We hit the first stretch goal.>>149995575For us, yeah. But personally I think I would prefer that change in normal vision over someone removing my eyes to replace them.
>>149995427Eyes almost certainly couldn't, however there's no reason something replicating Chitz's functions couldn't be made in the shape of glasses or goggles.
>>149995526>where they're supposed to beRelative to what though? Duane didn't go blind when he moved his head up and down or turned. There must be some wiggle room.
>>149995690To whatever port they call for I guess. As far as not blinding him when he moves, Sette had to spend some time getting the positioning right. I assume that afterwards she would have had to move them around to keep it working as he moved, and that that simply wasn't shown further because it was already established.
>>149995743Yeah, so if Duane could turn his head 90 degrees to the side without losing vision then that is moving them more than having them sitting on his face like glasses. Whatever they are supposed to line up with, they're still closer than the head turn..
>>149995743>>149995779Relative to the soul's eyes.If you turn your physical head, then your soul head also turns. To have simulacrum eyes working outside of the eye sockets your soul would have to be misaligned from your head and brain. At that point you would have much bigger problems than being blind.
>>149995191I dunno. If they know that Duane is a reliable donator, they might leave him alone when it comes to more direct robbery.
>>149995891That's not how the story ends.
>>149994531If Nora wanted to dissect Matty she'd already have Duane's teeth buried in her guts. I think he's safe from scientific interest. Frankly I'm surprised they're letting these kids have fresh air.
>>149996335The queen would also probably draw the line at Matty. No one understands Nora's artistic vision or scientific mind.
>>149996335It's probably some small mercy. Theyve seen a lot and aren't particularly dangerous (so they think). They're probably being held until the queen herself can question them. But knowing Settle she'll bolt the second she see an opportunity to grab Duane
But is murkoph enough of a bastard to fill the void left by based starfish's death?
>>149996642He was also going to rape Sette so yes, probably. I actually dread the creepy scenes Ashley is going to give us with Murkoph. There's definitely going to be at least one woman who doesn't know what she's getting into with him and I can imagine Ashley making the build up to that scene agonising, even if she keeps the actual butchery off the page.
>>149996642It's been a hot minute since I read his parts but I recall him being established as a cannibal on top of the rape and murder, whereas Starfish was simply a rapist and murderer. On the other hand, he is pretty handsome.
>>149996720Are we bad enough people to make this meme but with Murkoph and Starfish?
Insane to think how my life has changed over the course of this comic. Incredible that it's finished. So many webcomics just fell by the wayside.
>>149996618Sette isn't going to go anywhere without Matty and Jivi, and neither of them could or would try to make a break for it the way she might. At this point she's choosing to stay with them. And Jivi, despite his uncertainty for Cresce growing steadily, had been cooperating. So yeah, these kids are out on good behavior. This is a reward for when being obedient and well behaved.

>>149997500Oh I know. But I think in that moment he was only worried about hunger. Not because he would have any qualms about doing both to Sette, but because his hunger was so severe that it overrode any desires for anything else. It would have been a long time without flesh for him, he probably wasn't capable of being patient or calm enough to get his other needs met.>>149997454I believe so.
>>149997408He was gonna do both. He was gonna eat part of her and then rape her because he likes hurting women. I do seem to recall him saying she wasnt filled out enough for him but he'll make do

Isn't Duane technically already a Black Tongue?>can't have kids (no balls)>fucked Lady Ilganyag (forma de soud waifu)>wears a collar (spinal pymaric)
>>149998014He didn't cut his balls off himself or swear an oath to the lady. So it doesn't count. He's more special than they are.
>>149998014You just reminded me of when Ilganyag had a woman moment and strangled all the Black Tongues in a fit of rage after her plans fell apart. That was actually funny as fuck.
>>149999032RIP Maur
>>149999032>>149999302It's still baffling to me that they kept wearing the torques after they had, basically, stabbed Tittybird in the back by allying with the Snake. I get that she left them first, but still, did it not occur to most of them that wearing something directly connected to her AROUND THEIR NECKS was a bit of a liability?
>>149999350They got too comfortable with Ilganyag's absence, and I guess the torque became a familiar black tongue symbol to them that they felt no need to part with. Yeah they should have ditched the torque at least when they invited Roger in, but hubris is human.
>>149999350>>149999507I can see a fair few arguments for continuing to wear them. Ruck took over the Black Tongues in a coup, not a unaminous vote. If you were not necessarily enthusiastic about serving an efheby, but were some combination of: >Dependent on living/working in Juste >Sensitive to the loss of Ilganyag for the research/prestige of the Black Tongues >Interested in the Ruck-dependent research >Hoping to get Ilganyag backYou'd probably stick around. I mean if you're been a Black Tongue for 30 or 40 years, and we know they were mostly old men at this point, what are you if you're not a Black Tongue? What do you do without their resources? And the Black Tongues were mostly clever men, and Ruck was clearly fucking mental if you spent 5 minutes in a room with him, and we can see both Paul and Maur more interested in *managing* Ruck than enthusiastically loyal to him when they meet with Queen Sonorie. So like, while you might ride the winds of change for now, you're probably hoping or at least anticipating Ruckmearkha is not a permanent arrangement. In which case, why not keep the collar on? When the Lady comes back you won't want to have done anything you can't excuse, or which might put you outside her good graces. How were they to know she'd murder them all in a fit of pique? Only Bastion had an idea of her plot: you can say Bastion should have warned them but he *did* warn Rahm and when he tried to visit them to talk about it they literally tried to kill him or, being as charitable as possible, turn him into a test subject for their soul lobotomy procedure. After that I don't think Bastion had any obligation to save them, and even he probably couldn't anticipate Lady I would choose to en-masse kill them.
Incidentally, because Alderode and because we prob won't have a thread for a good while now, I've become more sympathetic to Belarus, the plat kid bullying Duane in the Interior Emanations short story. He was a dick for sure, but it'd be quite a thing to be the star student at an advanced pymary academy and be a plat. Knowing that you've got what, 10 years at most once you graduate? Maybe only 8, or 5. That's not a lot of time to leave your mark. There must be a bitterness to outperforming the Jets and Silvers around you and still knowing that the greatest contribution you make to the field of pymary might only be the notes you leave behind that they have the next 50 or 150 years to properly refine and investigate. I would think it would be hard to ignore the great awareness of time.Plus he was also a student there on patronage, like Duane, so there must have been great pressure to make good. And suddenly you're doing the same work but it looks like you're doing worse because a student from arguably even rougher circumstances than you, another poverty kid, is outperforming you even with your natural advantages in the art. Who knows to what extent the rich Jets there enjoyed setting a plat and a pissmop against each other? And nobody even really cared when he died, really. An already outcast student had to leave the academy, that's all.I think that's one of the things I really like about Unsounded. There are a few real monsters in the cast, particularly among the villains, but most of the characters have understandable motivations behind their actions, even if those actions are repugnant.
>>149999350They're first silver. They're each one of them full of tremendous amounts of spell work custom to the individual black tongue. Bastion's ability to offset is linked to his. They were greedy, stupid, and complacent. They wanted to keep using their spells.

It's like Britain and France not knowing what to do with the sudden emergence of the United States. The Shartes are suddenly becoming formidable and neither the Alds nor the Crescians seem to have a plan for what to do with that. The Crescians tried to pander to them, but we've seen how ruthless the Shartes were in that respect, all too eager to ally with Bell. But with a certain plausible deniability, too. Compare Sharte "culture" to both of their long established nations and you can see why they're confused this ragtag band of criminals posing as a country is suddenly becoming so successful, and even then both countries might sum up Sharteshane's rising prominence to certain men like Beadman. Could another Beadman appear to keep the momentum running when our Jeb dies? They won't count on it.
You guys think Mikaila will get sexually assaulted next book? On one hand it's low hanging fruit and she can blow up anyone who tries. On the other hand, Ashley doesn't hold back punches and Mikaila could get blackmailed or pressured into it by someone in power she shouldn't blow up.
>>150006966Cope had already given nods towards the sexual peril Miki is in by virtue of her transgressive behavior. Presumably Lemuel's presence and reputation kept some of it at bay.
>>150006542>The Crescians tried to pander to them,Rilursa demanded they adhere to Crescian directives on pain of them setting off a Jihad. Wouldn't call that pandering.

I don't want it to end just yet.
>>150001499Are double thorns even a thing?
>>150006104This is a really fun art piece. I think if Sette had met Stockyard and his gang in better times she would have taken to them.
>>150006679>even then both countries might sum up Sharteshane's rising prominence to certain men like Beadman. Could another Beadman appear to keep the momentum running when our Jeb dies? They won't count on it.IMO this is completely wrong anyway. Beadman is just a manifestation of the Sharteshanian system, the current best example of someone able to extort the society for his own benefit. If he weren't doing it someone else would be.
>>150006542>Shartes are honest.lol, the defining feature of our Sharte main character and the nonsense we've seen of her dad is they're fundamentally dishonest people, incapable of grappling with the most basic of human emotions because they have to live their entire lives as a performance for their dysfunctional, gang based society.Stop trying to idealize everything anon and start trying to grasp the idea that there's no easy way to live life.

Wait, so why is Quigley's grave not lit up like the others? Is it because he's Aldish?
>>150010372What's the point in lighting it up for Matty if he's blind?
>>150010396But what does it mean?
>>149987076TAKE A VACATION, ASHLEY.
>>150010372Ash discussed it on Tumblr. There's a few things going on.>The priestess doing the rite lit it initially and asked Matty if it was bright enough, before feeling silly because he can't see>That initial charge wore off after a few weeks>Matty is too young and not in any real position to ask for another, plus he's blind so he doesn't even know or care>Jivi could ask but doesn't feel like it's his placeSo ultimately, Quigley's grave will stay unlit from now on. And meanwhile, Cresce will bend his story from dying to save Matty to dying to save Cresce, and giving the queen the enthusiastic blessing to use Vienne's technology to destroy Alderode.

tempted to enter a Quigley little dark age edit into the fanworks contest
>>150011726Do it. Unsounded needs more fanart.
I decided to reread the story now that it's over; there's a lot of stuff you get on a second go as early as like Chapter 3 or 4.
>>150012337I'm planning on waiting for the storytime, but Unsounded really does lend itself well to rereads.
>>150010840I hate the queen
>>150012337She wrote out the story before drawing it. So while she does change and edit things there are going to be a lot of tells that make sense in retrospect.
>>150014004I remember when one anon noticed Murkoph offsetting in the khert on a reread, something every single one of us had missed up until then.
Tragically, Duane died on his way back to his home planet.
>>150012337Yeah. I think reading the pages day by day kind of blinds you to some broader stuff too, because you focus so much on that singular page.
>>150014503Can also dull your memory of important events past. Fifteen years is a long time to be following a single work and not forget things.
>>150005463seconded.storytime thiss shit>>150007462lawl
>>150015165 see >>149989651, but who knows when we're going to get it.
>>150015369The anon in question, do we want to do it soon or do we want to wait a bit? All at once or a few chapters each week over a few weeks?
>>150016043I personally think sooner is better. It lets you catch existing readers ITT while there's momentum, before they decide to go reread independently of this. Maybe space the chapters out a little (not too much) and share when the next drop will be at the end of a thread. It might be better to work out the details in the first thread where there's more attention on a storytime itself.
>>150016210Bro you're gonna feel like killing yourself if you try to storytime this on /co/.
>>150016351You just need one neet to do it. I'd my self if I weren't working 24/7
>>150010296They're honest in their dishonestly though, they make no bones about being cutthroats and cutpurses and it's your fault for not being savvy enough to expect it. This is a culture where the custom of leaving out things specifically for your guests to attempt to steal is considered good manners.
>>150018136And where not stealing something from them would be considered rude. Only stealing from someone's person is taboo, as that's a sign of disrespect.
>>150016210>>150015369>>150015165>>150005463What do we think about Sundays, so we could get started tomorrow, and do a group of chapters for the early stuff. Hell we could try and break down what the volumes will probably be and do those so we have nice chunks of story. I'm EST so I'd be down for doing it anytime between noon to midnight on Sunday. Six volumes would be six weeks which is a pretty long scale but could catch people over the month and half to read it.
>>150018844From what we know Volumes 1 and 2 will be Chapters 1-4 and 5-8 respectively, so trying to map out similarish lengths and stuff that makes sense I could see six days, whether week to week or back to back of:Day 1: 228 pages - Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4Day 2: 344 pages - Chapters 5, 6, 7, 8 Day 3: 431 pages - Chapters 9, 10, 11, 12 Day 4: 427 pages - Chapters 13, 14, 15Day 5: 330 pages - Chapters 16, 17Day 6: 330 pages - Chapters 18, Epilogue
>>150018844Sundays work well for me to follow along with it, and I imagine most other people as well. As for the exact time of day, I think you should probably go with whatever will be easiest for you to stick with, and maybe start a little earlier than you expect since uploading each section will take a fair bit of time.I definitely think doing just one chapter by itself might be too short, particularly with early chapters, so breaking it up by some other means is a good idea.>>150018998I believe Ashley's said later books will have fewer chapters in them given the length, though who knows where exact lines will be drawn.
