How bad did Sony fuck this up?
>>
>>150093506
>sells entire ip, which includes merch
>sells rights to music as well

at least they might have a bargaining chip with netflix to renegotiate things since only Sony can make the sequels according to the contract, but it's a massive massive fumble to already miss out on all the profits of the first movie

sold the entire ip to netflix for only 20 million in profit. sold the music rights to a non-sony company.
>>
>>150093772
>According to Puck’s Matthew Belloni, Sony agreed to a “direct-to-platform” arrangement where Netflix would pay back the film’s production budget plus an additional fee capped at $20 million per project. In exchange, Netflix retained all rights to the property and owes no additional profit participation, even as the film becomes a massive hit. This wasn’t Sony shopping around a finished film; Netflix essentially funded the production while Sony handled the creative work.

“We pitched the movie to Sony,” Kang explained in a recent interview. “And they passed on it. It’s a big risk to do a movie with a full Asian cast on something that’s very culturally Korean, which hasn’t been done before. K-pop was at its peak, but it could have plateaued. There was a lot of uncertainty with that. So we pitched it to Netflix. We had a full draft, a couple of demo songs, a ton of amazing art and a couple of scenes that I had [story]boarded that we cut. And there were three different animatics samples that we shared; and they loved it. And then we were off to the races.”

However, Netflix couldn’t just take on producing KPop Demon Hunters immediately. Both Kang and Appelhans were Sony employees, so it became “a different kind of relationship,” according to Kang.

“The creative was primarily at Sony Pictures Animation and then Netflix was the distribution and investor in a way,” Appelhans said. “They footed the bill and they gave notes, but the core team was Sony.”

Even worse case scenario where KDH bombed at the box office it would've been a hit in Korea and eventually gotten popular on Netflix 3 months after theatrical window. Same fandom would've developed just slower after the stigma of "box office bomb" then it would've slowly gained popular, the songs were inevitably going to be hits then 3 years later KDH 2 would've done bank.

Sony were absolutely stupid for not keeping the IP.

Bad, but not as bad as it first looks like.

They lost all the money for Movie 1. But they have the animation/creative team, and they have control over making a sequel contractually and can renegotiate new terms each time.

So, big fumble, but they'll recoup on the next film.

What if this but the Beatles?

As in the Beatles are secret slayers of demons in the name of the Anglican Church, and that's why John said they're bigger than Jesus, they travel the seas slaying demons for Queen and Country. But it's in this style. And that's why they went Studio Only, they got this big job to do, and the fakeout drama was just to lure in British Demons disguised as bobbies to the roof of Apple Studios, so named for the Trees of the Fruit of the Knowledge of Good and Evil that look like Green Fruits.
>>
>>150104474
They got employed by the English Church in 1966 after a demon tried to kill Paul McCartney in a car crash, so the Boys were crash coursed in. So first they're like 'we got this 1966 tour to do' and that's why it sucked because demons, but they go for spiritual cleansing with the Guru but meanwhile demons kill Brian Epstein, and they go studio there proper because NOW IT'S PERSONAL, and they learn St. Pepper's Tunes to fight proper and all the late Beatles is just reinterpreted as cover for their new mission in England, before they stop the Demons from big shit in 1968/69 and then retire in 1970 to solo careers, John taking care of the halfling demon he feeds heroin to, Ringo still under the Satanic Immortality he was promised by Belphegor in the White Album produciton but still not letting it corrupt his holy soul to betray the Beatles.
>>
>>150104474
Anglicans can't fucking kill demons, they're too weak and they were unable to stop the infestation of the English Royal Family with demonic forces. They'd have to either be Catholic or Orthodox, the only two Churches that have proven to be able to dispel demons with consistency.
>>
>>150104537
According to AI Liverpool had Catholics and they went to Germany a lot and they WERE Catholic so... shit maybe.

Maybe it's a joint thing with the British Government as Per Vatican II? The Beatles got popular at the same time.

>Sony invest a shitload of money into new game
>New fame is basically an Overwatch Clone years after the apex of the Overwatch fad and after the market for hero shooters has been extremely saturated.
>Hero shooter is a genre where 90% of the initial appeal is based on how cool the heroes you are going to play are. Despite this Concord hero roster can be basically described as "what if /Pol/ was in charge of making a bunch of parodies of what they think the average wokie wants"
>Despite 99% of the competing games being free to play with micro transactions, the game cost 40$ at release.
>The game gets announced, instantly gets ridiculed by everyone
>Seriously, for one reason or another, everyone think it's shit.
>Sony doesn't concede and markets the hell out of it, they even pay for animated short in Secret Level, an Amazon animated anthology about video games.
>Game releases. Top player counts on steam is 700 players globally on a game that is absolutely reliant on player base to be playable.
>Literally two weeks later Sony concedes defeat. Announce they are closing the servers and refund everyone that bought it. It becomes the biggest flop in videogame history.

No, it does look bad, it looks REALLY BAD. It gets away with it because the other designs are so much obviously worse. If you know anything about fashion, body proportions, silhouette, colour pallete, or you have any pre-existing cultural notions about aesthetic it's a huge piece of shit. He has a knee length coat on with a bright patterned fabric paired with a discordant mix of utilitarian accessories, military wear, drab kakhis, and randomly assorted jewelry. He looks like he got dressed out of a homeless man's laundry and a child's dress up trunk. His ribcage is huge, his shoulders are narrow, and even a coat that by all accounts with it's shoulder pads and length should be able to compensate for his fucked up silhouette fits so poorly that he still looks like a fucked up ugly American. His sunglasses don't even sit right on his face. His whole getup was designed by a committee of female neckbeards who wear bowties. It's hard to look at, he's just the skinny girl inna group of obese trolls.
