How is it that you people still read Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, X-Men, Avengers, etc. comics?
Are you just putting up with them because they're comics and you're a comics nerd or do have a genuine interest in these franchises?
>>
If the stories are good then what's the problem, it's more of a character you like
The only problem is that most of the stories suck right now
>>
>>150099718
Because it only takes a few minutes and we don't pay for it
>>
I have a sneaking suspicion OP doesn't actually read anything and lives in a perpetual state of outrage, be it warranted or not, just to fit in with other armchair critics
>>
>>150100173
It take me 20 minutes because I'm slow and retarded
>>
>>150099718
I dip in and I dip out

>>150100222
He's using a crop from an issue that just released
>>
>>150099718
>WHY DO YOU LIKE THING I DO NOT LIKE, JUSTIFY IT TO ME
kill yourself
>>
>>150099718
I just skim the characters I like these days in the storytime threads. I haven't actually read a full issue of a modern comic in ages.
>>
>>150099718
Sometimes you just want some cotton candy.
>>
>>150099899
>The only problem is that most of the stories suck right now
And people still buy and read them. Why?
>>150100173
You pay with your time. Those few minutes add up fast.
>>150100222
I've tried reading them. This isn't outrage, it's morbid curiosity.
You being so defensive tells me something's wrong. Why do you read them? I'm here for you.
>>
I dont, Im just here to stir the pot and convert more chuds to the cause
>>
>>150100378
What are you looking for?
Are you like me, who wants solid comic book entertainment, or do you have characters you look out for?
>>150100394
Do you actually like this stuff, though? That's what I'm asking as well.
>>150102024
Do you like what you see? Are your favorite characters being used to your satisfaction? If so, why not just read the comics in full? If not, why even bother?
>>
>>150102487
>Those few minutes add up fast.
I'm here. That's not the cost you want to believe it is.
>>
>>150099718
no one still reads American comics
>>
>>150102032
Is that good or bad? Do you like cotton candy? How much do you like it?
>>150102498
What cause?
Are these chuds the only ones who read these comics?
>>150102542
It's a lot more than you want to believe it is.
>>
>>150102539
>Are you like me, who wants solid comic book entertainment, or do you have characters you look out for?
Both. I'll see a random storytime, read a little, and determine if it's good enough to follow or bad enough to ignore.
>>
>>150099899
Why dont you just read a book?
>>
>>150102582
wrong
>>
>>150103545
Prove it
>>
>>150099718
I don't know.

So you don’t really like shit and just say you do because the collective does, and when you’re reminded of that fact you fly into a rage like now?
>>
>>150099718
I have a subscription to both Marvel Unlimited and DC Ultra. I only use it to read completed runs that are actually good. Plus the dynamic panel reader helps.
Both Marvel and DC churn out a lot of mediocre comics, but there are still some gems that you can find in the older comics.
>>
>>150099718
I don't. I can pick ocasional good/interesting stories, but I am too jaded with Big Two to believe their titles deserve constant following.
>>
I don't, this board is for comics AND cartoons.

WTF is OP even trying to ask?
That they can't understand the idea of stories about super powerful heroes being found entertaining?
That they can't understand the idea of stories in a medium of visual panel to panel story progression art being found entertaining?
That people enjoy a franchise that existed 50 years ago makes no sense to them??

Its all pretty vague.
What particular comic hurt them this much to not comprehend these things.
>>
>>150099718
>why are comic readers reading comics in the comics board??
I wonder why
>>
>>150100254
did you like ice cream?

the best case scenario... he is having a meltdown because most of capeshit now is bad.

and we still suport it. (but as a anon say it, most of us still read because it's free)

>>150105824
>>150106344
Not asking you.
>>
>>150099718
My main interest is one franchise, x-men. I started to read the relaunch and gave it a chance to develop. Out of the so many books, only Adjectiveless is going well. The rest are terrible or boring. So, I read that one and dropped the rest (occasionally reading to catch up with the other books). Ain't really that complicated, anon.
>>
>>150106708
>>150106788
Do you actually still find these comics entertaining?
>>150107107
It's not free.
>>
>>150108001
Do you honestly, genuinely believe this comic is really good? Are the art and writing amazing?
>>
who cares
>>
>>150102732
you're actually allowed to read both, you're not longer executed for reading novels and aquaman within the same calendar year
>>150099718
easier to read on my phone and easier to start and stop without losing my place
>>
Once you're invested in a character, you tend to want to continue to read their adventures. I don't read new comics anymore, but I still read wiki and shit to know what is going on with my favorite characters. Then I'm glad I didn't read it.
Spider-Man was the best... and the worst, in the 90s. After that it was pretty shit with a few good stories here and there in the early 2000s.
Superman has been shit since after The Death of Superman.
Batman became shit with the New 52 and never recovered.
X-Men... shit after House of M.
Avengers... was only good in the pre-90s.
>>
>>150109999
>Once you're invested in a character
I never have been, not for any longer than a good story they're in. I wipe the slate with every different writer, sometimes even the same writer if enough time goes by.
>>
>>150109668
what an odd fucking name for a book
>>
>>150109668
You will be if you read that.
>>
>>150099718
Superman is currently good. That definitely helps.
>>
>>150112065
What's good about it? Is it as good as All-Star Superman? Joe Kelly's run? Elliot Maggin's?
>>
>>150109589
I care.
>>
>>150099899
>what's the problem
>most of the stories suck right now
>>
Most /co/ fags only read comics here for free via storytimes and when it comes to books like Amazing Spider-Man they keep up to date just to talk shit about how bad it is. Reading it so they can continue to complain. Hatereading or whatever its called. They would never read it if they had to pay for it and had no free way to access it. I agree with you that its not worth anyone's time unless they enoy what they're reading but we are in the age of people barely interacting with media and just listening to youtubers opinions on things.
>>
>>150105583
the big two apps are terrible. free manga apps made by some random on github have better functionality for reading comics/manga
>>
i made a thread a few days ago asking if people still keep up with capeshit comics because they are actually enjoying whats happening or if its just to keep up to date/not "break their run". Here's the thread if anyone cares.

What makes it so unbelievable to you that people would like these characters?
>>
>>150099718
they're battered housewives.
>>
>>150113878
he's asking why people still read the comics and ride the crazy roller coaster of retcons, bad runs, and flanderization that is capeshit. You would think after some time someone might just give up after having their favortite character dragged through the mud and written like shit for literal decades.
>>
>>150099718
I only read stories from /co/ charts from that one Tumblr, and it's MOSTLY hits! even if it hasn't been updated since 2015

It will probably take me years to get through it all(all the stuff that interests me, at least), and then I'll move on to other stuff

idk if I'll read modern comics when I'm done, but I liked what I read of Ultimate Marvel and Absolute DC, but little else interests me
>>
>>150099718
It's usually as reference material for my own writings.
>>
>>150108295
"These comics" is pretty vague still.
Is there a particular run or creative team you bitching about? Or, again, just the very concept of superman in a story magazine.
>>
>>150099718
Why don't you read comic books, OP senpai?
>>
>>150113791

I like watching trains crash into burning dumpsters. It's like visiting a freakshow but even more degrading. You just can't get the same level of fascinating obscenity in a franchise that's TRYING to be this wretched, like imagine trying to explain to a normie that the writers sent Superman's son to be tortured in the Crime Syndicate's universe because they hated writing children-and also only revealed he was gay AFTER that event.

Western comics are Tommy Wiseau movies or weird moments in manga like Goku revealing he doesn't know what a kiss is/Soul Society being blatantly evil but never suffering any meaningful consequences or reforms to itself to me, but as an entire industry. It's so terrible at this point I just have to keep reading now there's a fucking upcoming Omega Energy tournament.
>>
>>150120683

https://www.dc.com/blog/2025-08-29/dc-reveals-all-32-tournament-contestants-in-stunning-dan-mora-cover-for-dc-k-o-1

Look at this. Look at how fucking stupid this concept even is. It's so stupid I can't look away. Remember when the Omega Effect was supposed to be so profoundly evil, the best possible outcome was to leave it behind in the past and hope the Legion of Superheroes would inherit a world in which Darkseid is nothing but a bad memory?

By the way yes, Highfather is still an impotent self-loathing control freak if you were curious. Just had to literally evacuate New Genesis and ended up on Earth with his people as refugees.
>>
>>150120683
The Western comics industry does everything in their power to make sure you have a bad time reading comics, and people STILL give them money. Of course they're going to keep doing it.
>>
>>150121141
That's the funniest part, really. All this shit is findable online for free, and there are still idiots dumb enough to pay up for physical copies. And other idiots "speculating" that copies of this sub-toilet paper trash will be worth more money at some undefined point in the future for vague reasons.
>>
>>150099718
It's a bit of stockholm syndrom and a bit of misplaced pride, or whatever it is called when a person already invested too much time and/or money into something to give up.

I stopped completely with X-men like 10yrs ago during the bendis stuff and I don’t think I’m ever going to read them again. So much gay shit both figuratively and literally have happened to most of the characters that I loved from the glimpses of things I’ve seen overtime here on the board and I have no desire to move forward with them.
