The fact they're misfits and rejects is kinda the point.

The entire first generation of suoers was mostly dead, and Evelyn went for losers and weirdos to try and paint Supers in a bad light.

The point being that when push comes to shove they ultimately save the day because Evelyn's total lack of belief in anyone but herself is her biggest failing.
