Everyone realizes Peter is a Criminal and when they confront him over it, he starts killing the other characters. The film is about hunting down Peter while surviving his attempts on their lives and finally bringing him to justice by having him stand trial and face his execution.
Carter dies and leaves his fortune to Peter. But Peter soon realizes the fortune has a pirate curse on it and this is the last one big screw you from Carter from beyond the grave. Griffins go on adventure to find and confront the pirates (Stewie's time machine involved). Eventually they break the curse, but when they come back they find out Carter is alive again and they inherit nothing. There's no explaination for this and Carter calls Peter "dumb fatass" before kicking him out of his house.
