He gets people to trust him, he gets all the power and in the end fixes his face and the actual Doom actor comes in. RDJ technically plays Victor Von Doom for Doomsday, and then returns as an Iron Man Variant in Secret Wars. He has a bone to pick with Doom because he essentially stole his face to do his wicked acts. So now you have a Stark/Doom rivalry to replace the Doom/Reed one that they haven't built up to. Post-SW RDJ is resurrected and retires to raise his daughter, or they do Teen Tony. The actual Doom actor keeps playing him. I think this is the most likely plot. Not much else coherently adds up.
