Reading watchmen. Do I bother with the before watchmen series or even the doomsday clock books? Seen the movie in theaters years ago. Never seen the HBO show. Do I read the original graphic novel and call it a day?

Just the original comic series + Director's cut of the movie

Don't read or see anything else.

Kk thanks

Yes, just read the original comic. Don't even bother with the movie. You already saw it anyway.
>>
It's like Evangelion
>Pretentious and ruined its genre?
Yes, but also in that only the original is worth touching and everyone else is just cash in slop for the super fans. Also already liking the genre beforehand lets you appreciate it a bit more, it's weird that this is everyone's first "serious" comic

You meant to say

Read the graphiv novel is enough. Before Watchmen isnt mandatory. They are surprisingly good but dont are very deep.
Doomsday Clock is bad and it own continuity, like any crossover.
The HBO show is weird and the focus feels off. And what they focus is badly written.
And the Rorschach mini is not badly wtitten but it feels more like connected to the HBO show and you got the sense that the writer wrote i5 with bad intend.

Disregard this. The movie is retarded. Read the comic, then read the comic again.

Yes, read the original series and ignore everything else

I don't like Amanda Conner's art. Cooke should have drawn it.

Thats a good point. But Connors art fits very well with the story and Silk Spectre

It was the style for a time to recommend Watchmen as such, as well as to ride Alan Moore's dick.
>>

Random out of left field: there was a Mayfair games RPG back in the day for DC and there was a Watchmen source book that was apparently written in conjunction with Dave Gibbons/Alan Moore. But honestly, read the original comic and nothing else.

>Overrated
Overrated is a (you) problem, an overused word to explain people being tricked by hype bubbles rather than reading and appreciating a work on its own merits.

>it's weird that this is everyone's first "serious" comic
Comic book fans often have a poor rec list mentality that says: read Watchmen and a few other things. Fans hold on to Watchmen like a life raft to give the medium some semblance of legitimacy. I like Watchmen, but the problem with this mentality is it treats recommendations not like a pipeline but a dead end and also it assumes that there is nothing else to really try and read.

That stuff is collected in the Watchmen Companion they made a few years back.

Minuet men is the only one worth reading. It's not great, but it's a good enough expansion to the world. Most of the other books are dull, or make you feel insulted for reading them.

Do not trust the Snyder fan! The move is bad.

This. So much this. Alan Moore literally hates anything outside his original book.

Except it does reconstruction. There's no problem with deconstruction, so long as the reconstruction also happens.

>watch Hack Snyder's movie where he changes every challenging plotpoint to make it safer
How about no
