Dav Pilkey's Dog Man represents 13% of American comic sales. Why don't more comic artists do stupid little drawings instead of elaborate ones? People want doodles, not "art".

What do you mean "the biggest audience for comics is second graders"? Shouldn't it be 30-45 year old people in supervised communal living?

>>150120931they don't have the writing to back it up
>>150120931The style is harder to pull off well than you think. So is a book. Most artists can draw, but can they write, deliver work on time consistently, or see a long form comic through to the end?

>>150120931It's soul-crushing for a creative to exploit an audience with low-quality entertainment like this. I realize, however, that most people who make comics have no soul, so I'll chock it up to the fact that they just couldn't pull it off due to lack of skill.

>>150120931Dave Pilkey's honestly one of a kind. He has been able to appeal to the poop-humor of elementary school kids for decades and never lost touch of what kids find funny and interesting. I genuinely don't think there are that many adult artists out there that would be willing or able to draw a well-liked kid's comics for a fat Scholastic check.
