He already has trouble being an alien amongst humans, being raised by someone that's uncomfortable in his own skin can really isolate Clark. The Kents never really isolated Clark or made him feel weird, they just told him the facts and still treated Clark like their own son. Hank might be closer to Snyder's John Kent, wanting his son to not make any waves and hide his powers.
