How come even when the channel became a basic cable channel, it wasn't as beloved among animation nerds as Nick or Cartoon Network? Sure, it was second to Nick in viewership because of normies, but among animation nerds, it wasn't as big, aside from a few shows like Kim Possible and Phineas and Ferb

Because quite frankly its best output was during the Disney Afternoon years and that's what animation nerds generally still talk about, outside of the few exceptions that you mentioned. And I guess technically Recess.

Because most Disney Channel shows were Live action sitcoms. Nick had that problem too for a time, but the cartoons they had were more notable and most of them died prematurely or were mistreated, making them more notable.
