Why didn't they just make another cash cow stoner cartoon like Regular Show or Adventure Time in the 8 years since they ended? I'm sure they got thousands of pitches. CN is notorious for yo-yoing their target audience from preschoolers to teens, but they really spent way too long trying to make their own Paw Patrol or Bluey.
>>
>>150124841
Because CN is run by morons
>>
>>150124841
They were too busy chasing the female and LGBT demographic
>>
>>150124841
>Common side effects didn't bring in viewers

Because it visually looks awful. Not criticizing the writing, but that is NOT an art style that will get people to go "hm, I should check that out."

Why do we keep doing this.
>>
The stoner demographic has kind of given up on cartoons, so that won't work, they're not coming back.
The only ones left are tumblr, low-functioning autistic 20-somethings, and twitter artists.

>>150124841
Bitch anon. That costs too much money.

I'm sure they made back the cost of an entire season of adventure time just from licensing the characters to airlines.

>Cartoon Network is now largely focused on established IP
I don't want to "pertribute" to the problem, but just how far does this line of thought go?
>>
>>150124841
Because they would never get approved, do you think those millennials feminist are gonna make a dudebro cartoon or an adventure comedy cartoon with 2 bros in a fantasy land?

Nothing before 2010

I literally checked it out because of the art style. It looked weird, but weird in the way where you can tell it's a deliberate choice and has some effort put into it instead of weird in the way where it's just because someone's a lazy cunt or can't fucking draw.

And then I got like five minutes into the first episode and was hooked.

I haven't watched CN in over a decade. Last I remember it was all gay tumblr Adventure Time/Crystal Gems bullshit. What's this about chasing Bluey and preschoolers?

Cartoon Network had a retarded female executive who, according to leaked emails, had the writing proficiency of a teenager.

She was wholly responsible for a pivot towards pre-school content and away from adult friendly cartoons like Mao Mao.
>>
>>150132045
I also haven't watched much from Cartoon Network in years but from what I know they had/have a lot of really terrible baby-preschool level shows during a segment of airtime called Cartoonito.
A couple of the shows were Batwheels (Batman's vehicles but they are alive and fight the vehicles of his villains) and Bugs Bunny Builders which is kid versions of Looney Tunes characters using construction vehicles to solve problems or something.
>>
>>150132033
If they were a fan you'd think they'd try to get the characters looking better. What the absolute fuck is that Chicken.
>>
>>150135767
Sounds like a brand new type of cartoon hell than the one I'm used to.

If CN transitioned to more high-quality adult fare, especially stuff with a serious tone like CSE, it could carve out a new niche.

Cartoonito is literally just 15 minutes a day now, and it's only the shows that give numbers. The preschool initiative seems to be relegated to streaming.
Cartoon Network proper is mostly airing older shows, like Regular Show and Scooby Doo and Adult Swim starts at 5 pm now.

Picrel is the schedule for the first week of September.

Currently Adult Swim seems to be the main focus of CN, and that could be because the current president of the network is the creator of Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law.
>>
>>150137907
That's why I used past tense. Cartoonito is much reduced now but for a good while there it took up a lot of air time during the tenure of previous network leaders.

Memes are memes they're not black, white, hispanic, asian, male, female, non-binary, or LGBTQIA. They are for everyone to use regardless or who you are or what you identify as. Assigning identifiers to images is just another way to divide this already fractured world.

That's fair, but I feel like a lot of people exaggerate how much CN has dedicated to its preschool programming to erroneously frame the channel as "for babies", when the opposite is true. In actuality CN is really pivoting towards its dedicated adult audience.

That said, I don't know if this is healthy for the channel as this approach could just appealing to a "bubble audience" of ride or die millennials that have stuck with CN since the late 90s. CN median view is like in their 30s now, eventually this audience will die out, and I don't think CN has really succeeded in courting a new audience like Nick or Disney have, both of which activity caters to a wider diversity of viewers.

They pretty much stopped doing that after SU which was one of their last reasonably successful shows.
They have just been coasting off of TTG and Gumball reruns for years. What was the last new show CN even released that wasn't a baby show?
I really don't get why they didn't think that would eventually become an issue as kids grew out of TTG.

The last new shows CN made weren't baby shows they were "Invincible Fight Girl" and "Unicorn: Warriors Eternal"; in fact most of CN preschool programming was either acquisitions or from WB studios (so established properties adjusted for a younger audience-- like Batwheels).

The real issue with CN is that more adults watch the channel, specifically Adult Swim, than kids>>150139230(me)
and since it's currently being led by AS alums, its being consumed by AS.

>Invincible Fight Girl

Didn't both of those wind up on AS anyway despite being made for CN?

Even the company knew they were driving way off-brand because immediately after the merger they dumped a lot of newer shows onto Discovery Family. The ones that aren't full Nick Jr but feel like PBS.
>>
>>150140355
>>150140299(me)
Yes, because CN is being consumed by Adult Swim. AS gets more viewers, as shown in the pic, so the powers that be figured those shows, made by CN studios for CN the channel, would do better on the AS block.

Again, the problem with CN is that more adults are watching it rather than kids and WB management doesn't know what to do about that since the CN brand is still strong with children.

>more adults are watching it rather than kids and WB management doesn't know what to do about that
They could always, I dunno, air their massive backlog of timeless original cartoons that adults grew up with and that kids would still like today...

They tried that with Checkered Past

>Christina Miller directed CN to only make shows for little kids and ignore older demographics
Miller greenlit Infinity Train and Mao Mao.
Miller's problem was relying too much on TTG, but really what could she do? TTG got stable ratings and she was facing of cable's decline to streaming.

The only smart business choice frankly, only preschoolers watch cartoons in significant numbers. Kids 6+ prefer videogames and teenagers prefer anime

Tom Ascheim was trying to turn CN into Nick, or more specifically, Noggin/the N, the blocks he managed while at Nick. He was trying to make CN cater to a wider variety of demographics, which is something CN has historically struggled with, but he didn't really have time to actually see these aspirations come to fruition.
>>
>>150124841
If the channel died, literally no one would shed a tear. Every show on there could easily be on streaming anyhow
>>
>>150124841
Television is a dead medium.
